1 13-Mail Mail allows you to communicate with other users via written correspondence, in text or HTML format, and file attachments. You can send mail to other users in the selected course or section. Mailcan be used to exchange messages with other users, but it cannot be used to exchange messages over the Internet. This ensures that you do not receive undesired or irrelevant messages from external sources and contributes to the stability of the messaging system by limiting exposure to viruses. Sending Messages 1. You can send messages to one or multiple recipients in the course. From the messages screen, click Create Message. The Create Message pop-up window appears. 2. Specify recipients for your message by doing one of the following:
2 Enter their names in the To text box. Use semi-colons to separate multiple recipients. Browse for recipients: Click Browse for Recipients. The Select Message Recipients pop-up window appears. Select the recipients and click Save. If you want to send a copy of the message to other recipients, enter their names in the CC text box or click Browse for Recipients. Use semi-colons to separate multiple recipients. If you want to send one or more recipient a copy of the message but you want to hide those recipients from other recipients, enter their names in the BCC text box or click Browse for Recipients. Use semi-colons to separate multiple recipients. 3. In the Subject text box, enter a subject heading. 4. If your message is urgent, select High priority.
3 5. Enter the content of the message: *Note- The message will appear exactly as you have typed it 6. Send message. Creating message in Plain Text Format To create the message in HTML format you can use the HTML Creator or hand code the HTML: 1. To use the HTML Creator: Select Enable HTML Creator *Note- Depending on administrator settings, the HTML Creator may no be available or it may appear by default The HTML Creator appears. Enter the message in the HTML Creator editing area.
4 2. To hand code the HTML: Select Use HTML. In the Message text box, enter the HTML code. Attach Files If you want to attach files to your message:
5 1. Click Add Attachments. The File Browser pop-up window appears. Do one of the following: 2. If the files you want to attach are on your computer: Click the My Computer icon. Your computer's file browser or the Upload Files from Your Computer screen appears. Locate and select the files. The files are attached.
6 3. If the files you want to attach are in WebCT, locate and select the files. The files are attached. 4. If you want to preview the message, click Preview. The Message pop-up window appears. 5. Click Send. The message is sent. Reading Messages *NOTE - unread messages will be be in BOLD
7 1. From the messages screen, under Subject, click the subject line of the message you want to read. The Message screen appears. *TIP - To read the next of previous message from the same folder, click next or previous 2. If the message has attached files and you want to save them: Click View Attachments. The Select Attachments to Save pop-up window appears. 3. Next to each attachment you want to save, select the check box. To save all attachments, next to File name, select the check box.
8 4. Click Save to Folder. TheContent Browser pop-up window appears. 5. Navigate to the location you want to store the attachments and click OK. The Content Browser pop-up window closes and the attachment is saved. 6. When you are finished reading the message, click Close this window. The messages screen appears. Replying to Messages From the messages screen, click the message that you want to reply to. The Message pop-up window appears Specify the recipients: 1. To reply to the sender, click Reply. 2. To reply to the sender and all recipients of the message, click Reply to All. *NOTE -You cannot reply to recipients whose names appear in the BCC text box. 3. If you want to send the message to additional recipients, do one of the following: Enter their names in the To text box. Use semi-colons to separate multiple recipients. Browse for recipients:
9 Click Browse for Recipients. The Select Message Recipients pop-up window appears. Select the recipients and click Save. 4. If you want to change the original subject heading, edit it in the Subject text box. 5. If your message is urgent, select High priority. Enter your reply: To reply in Plain Text format, in the Message text box: Enter the message text. *Note - You may use HTML Creator as explained under Creating a message under Plain Text Format
