1 Send-only SMS user guide Send-only SMS communications sometimes called SMS blasts are used to send information to recipients with no requirement to receive any return information. See the 2-way SMS user guide for responsive campaigns with keywords Create new SMS campaign From the top menu, click Create a new SMS, Voice and flow 2. Give your campaign a name. Select campaign data 1. Select where the source data for the campaign is coming from. This data will contain the recipients contact details and any information you want to use to personalize messages, such as names. 2. Now confirm which fields in your source data are the Reference ID and contact details for SMS, Voice and .
2 3. Confirm which columns in your source data will be used as variables in your communications. For example, if you want to send SMS starting with Hi <first name> you ll need to ensure the first name field is selected here. Build an SMS campaign 1. When asked what kind of service would you like to set up, click SMS template, then click the SMS template and click open builder.
3 2. In the builder, click the green mobile phone icon to bring up the side menu and click the basic info settings icon Setting the Caller ID. The Caller ID is the number or name that will appear as the Sender for the SMS. 1. In the SMS Template Settings, under Template Type click Send Only. This allows you to set alphanumeric Caller IDs (that means letters and/or numbers!) Note there is an 11-character limit and spaces are not permitted. 2. Click the Caller ID drop down. If no caller IDs are available, click Add new caller ID
4 3. Enter your desired Caller ID and click add. Alternatively, you can buy a phone number to use as the Caller ID. To do so click Numbers in My Account and then Buy number. Pricing for number setup and monthly rental can be viewed at Note numbers can be reallocated when campaigns are no longer required and can be cancelled at any time. Setting Opt-out phrases (need a number) - REMOVE To select the reply keywords that will opt-out recipients from your campaign: 1. Click the minus icon to set your Opt-out phrases
5 Other SMS settings - REMOVE 1. Global Delivery delay Set the time delay between hitting launch campaign and the start of the SMS campaign. 2. Multipart SMS Click Yes to send SMS messages exceeding 160 characters as multiple SMS messages. Note that multipart SMS will be charged as multiple SMS. For example a 161 character SMS is charged as 2 SMS messages. 3. Shortlink SMS Click Yes if you want to automatically assign a short URL (EG when you enter a URL in your SMS text. 4. Survey mode Click Yes for 2-way SMS to enable the same Keywords to be used in multiple SMS modules. This allows your campaign to know which message the recipient is responding to. 5. Survey reset mode Click Yes to allow unique users to commence a survey for a second time.
6 Input your SMS text Now we input the SMS text. 1. Click enter your message here in the SMS module to open the message editor. Enter your desired text. To drop in variable fields for message personalization, click the green plus icon. Don t forget to include any required opt-out messaging (i.e. Reply STOP to opt-out ). Label and Tag the SMS - REMOVE 1. On the SMS module, click the Basic info icon and type an appropriate name in the Friendly name field. This should be a simple descriptor as this will appear in your campaign reporting. EG Appointment reminder, or Booking confirmation.
7 2. The Tag field enables you to apply a tag to an SMS module that will be applied to all recipients who receive that SMS message for reporting purposes. 3. In Delivery delay, you can choose to use the send delay settings for the entire campaign (Use Global Delay), or a custom delay for this specific SMS. Pre-Launch Check A pre-launch check will identify any errors in the communication flow before launching. 1. Click Check for errors at the top of the Builder.
8 2. With no errors found, you can click the back button to the Sandpit view 3. Now click the Rocket icon to conduct a pre-launch check of the campaign flow. With Launch check showing all OK, you can now launch the campaign, schedule timings, or start a test.
9 Schedule campaign timings 1. With launch check OK, click schedule for later. 2. Click the calendar icon and select the campaign start date, and then select the campaign start time in 24-hour format. Assign billing code, job reference and Job ID 1. You ll automatically be prompted for Billing Code, Job Reference and Job ID for an Upwire campaign prior to launch. Note these are for your internal reference only and you can assign them as you wish.
10 FAQ Send-only (one-way) SMS campaign checklist Set campaign timings appropriate to your inbound capacity (EG: if you are asking recipients to call a number) Do a test run using your own mobile number as test data to make sure the campaign works as expected. In your test check the character count when all variable fields are inputted. If required, refer to any opt-out phrases in the SMS text. (EG: To opt out reply STOP ). Make sure your campaign timings are such that SMS will get to customers at a reasonable time of day, not the middle of the night. Opt out
