1 Getting Started With the Fountas & Pinnell Online Data Management System You will need the Fountas & Pinnell Benchmark Assessment DVD package in order to get started. Open the package and read the information on the right-hand flap. Follow the directions for International Customers. You will need the coupon code to purchase your free one-year subscription. Type the Heinemann website link (found on the inside flap of your DVD package) into your internet s search engine. - Make sure you are using the link for International Customers. Click the Login option located on the top right hand corner of the Heinemann website. You will need to create an account and register in order to receive the keycodes you will require to use the Online Data Management System. Page 1

2 Click on Create an Account. Fill in the boxes with the required information. Check the little box underneath your personal information to indicate that you accept Heinemann s Terms and Conditions. Then click the Continue button On the My Account page, you will notice that your name and/or your address are displayed. This page allows you to edit your personal information, as well as view orders. Click on the Fountas & Pinnell tab (located on the menu bar at the top right hand side of the page) to continue. In order to get the product codes that will enable you to access any of the F&P Online resources (eg., Recording Forms, Summary Forms, etc.), you will need to register as a First Time Visitor. * Note: You will not need to do this step to order your keycodes. Under the Fountas and Pinnell options menu (located on the right hand side of your page), click on Fountas & Pinnell Online Resources. (Please note: At this point in time, this is a New! feature.) 3 Click on the Register button to register your Leveled Literacy Intervention Kit and/or your Benchmark Assessment System. You will need to register your products in order to access the online resources for your system. Click on the question mark to access the forms that you will need to fill out in order to obtain the proper product codes. Depending on the system that you are trying to register (LLI or BAS) click on the appropriate form option. Fill in the form. Please note that information is required in all fields. To change the Country field, you need to click on the arrow. A drop down menu will appear. Scroll down to find Canada and click on it. Make sure you click on the boxes under the Benchmark Assessment System Forms Online Resources area so that the product codes you require will be sent to you. Click Submit to continue. You should receive a message on this screen that indicates that your product codes will be sent to you shortly. Page 3

4 To Obtain Your Keycodes: Click on the Fountas & Pinnell tab (located on the menu bar at the top right hand side of the page). Click on the Monitor option to purchase your one year free subscription to the Online Data Management System. You will need the coupon code located on the inside cover of your DVD package. Choose the appropriate system (LLI or BAS), and then click on: Purchase Subscriptions International Versions Click Buy to purchase your Online Data Management System. Page 4

5 Make sure that the quantity in each of the product fields are set to 1. Enter the coupon code (located on the inside flap of the DVD package) into the appropriate field at the bottom of the page. Click Apply Coupon to continue. Check the information displayed to ensure that it is correct. You should have an Order Subtotal of $0.00 Click Checkout to continue. Fill in your Billing Information. Click Continue. Click Place Order Page 5

6 Once you have received confirmation of your order, a receipt will be ed to you. As will your keycodes. Please note that it takes hours before your keycodes are sent. Once you have them, you will be able to accesss the Online Data Management System. Click Go to My Account Click Logout in the top right-hand corner of the page. Unless you have more shopping to do, you will not be able to proceed any further without your keycodes. Once you have received the containing your keycodes, click on the Online Data Management (ODMS) link. You will require the appropriate keycode (eg., Teacher) to register and set up your system. Before you register, print off the appropriate User s Manual (i.e., Teacher or Administrator). You will find it very helpful as you navigate the system later. As you are a new user, you will need to register as such. Click on Register Now. Page 6

7 Fill in the required fields. Click on the drop down boxes to view options. Do not enter your Post/Zip Code You need to leave the Post/Zip Code field empty. By doing so, options will pop up in the District/Region field that you will be able to click on. Note: Options will not appear in the District/Region field if you enter a postal code. You will be prompted to Add a District which you do not want to do. Click on PEARSON SCH CANADA so that options will appear when you click the drop down menu of the School field. Click on the drop down menu of the School field. Click on DEMO SCHOOL. Click the box to agree to the Terms of Use. Click SAVE to continue. You will automatically be redirected to the ODMS Login screen Fill in the required fields. Click Continue Page 7

8 You will be directed to a screen that automatically pops up a Help option. If you have not already done so, print out the appropriate User s Manual From here on out, the User s Manual(s) will be able to help you navigate the system to set up your classroom, and enter data for your students.
