11 PhotoEssay Student Submit a PhotoEssay Go to and click Register / Log In under TRIO Quest. Login using your full address and the password you provided in registration. If you forgot your password click Forgot password? If you haven t yet registered, click TRIO Student Registration and follow the registration steps. Once you have completed your registration, you can come back to the Log In page and login. Under PhotoEssay, click Information and Submission.

12 Click Students then Click Submit your PhotoEssay entry

13 Fill in your first and last name, the address you registered with, your grade, and the Coach Code (get it from your instructor). Choose the category of your essay and enter your PhotoEssay title. Browse for your essay on your computer, open it, and click Save and view. Remember, your essay must be a.pdf,.doc, or.docx You will briefly see a notice that your entry has been saved BUT it will be redirected to a View Single screen where you will see the information on your submission. You can edit the information (click pencil icon) or delete the submission (click the X). On the deadline, August 10, 2010, 8:00 PM Pacific time, the last PhotoEssay that you Saved (submitted) will go into the judging process.

15 PhotoEssay Coach Submit Individual Student Essays At click Register/Login under TRIO Quest If you have registered with TRIO Quest this year or last year, or if you have registered with Online Courses, click LOG IN If you haven t registered in TRIO Quest this year or last, or if you haven t registered for Online Courses, click Staff Registration and follow the directions before proceeding with PhotoEssay Submission Login using your full address and the password you provided in registration. If you forgot your password click Forgot password?

16 Under PhotoEssay, click Information and Submission. Note: the next steps are about submitting individual essays; if you want to bulk upload go to PhotoEssay Bulk Upload Instructions. Click Upload individual PhotoEssays for your students Fill in the student information, Coach Code, and PhotoEssay information; then, Browse for the file and Save and View or Save and add another. Remember, the format for essays must be either.pdf,.doc, or.docx

17 To see all your submitted entries, click View list You will briefly see a notice that your entry has been saved BUT it will be redirected to a View Single screen where you will see the information on your submission On the View list screen, you can see all the entries that you as the coach have submitted. You will not see student submitted entries. On the View list screen, you can also edit or delete entries. To Edit/Change click the pencil icon which allows you to edit or re-upload the PhotoEssay.

19 PhotoEssay Bulk Upload Instructions New to the 2010 PhotoEssay competition is a Bulk Upload option. Essentially, this means: 1) you send us a spreadsheet with all your students info, 2) TRIO Quest inputs the student info into the system, and 3) you submit the.docs or.pdfs. Although these instructions look lengthy, we think you will find it goes quickly and will save you time. Note: If you have less than 5 student essays to submit, you might want to submit them through the individual submission process. However, if you have an entire class or classes of essays to submit, the Bulk Upload will save you time. Also, new to the 2010 PhotoEssay competition, student s are optional when coaches submit essays. Having student s can help us to help you with any problems that might arise, but they are not necessary when coaches submit. However, students will need to register with a valid address before they can submit an essay; only coaches have the option of leaving out the student addresses. Follow the screen shots and text instructions below for PhotoEssay Bulk Upload. 20 Under PhotoEssay, click Information and Submission. Then, go to PhotoEssay Bulk Upload Instructions.

21 PRINT! the PhotEssay Bulk Upload Instructions page (example below) Note the 5 steps to Bulk Upload PhotoEssay entries in the red box. Under The Steps below, # 1, click to download and Save a spreadsheet to your computer; then follow the step-bystep instructions below. 1. Download the blank spreadsheet template. Save the file to your computer then Open it to input your student data. 2. Enter the data about your students and their entries. Note: you can Copy and Paste from your program s spreadsheets to save time. Remember, do not use commas. There are drop-down menus under Grade Level and Category if you want to use them. And, NEW for 2010, Student is OPTIONAL leave it blank if you don t have addresses. SAVE the spreadsheet to your computer.

22 3. Once you have saved your file to your computer, return to the instruction screen. Under step 3, Click here to upload your spreadsheet to TRIO Quest. You will see the following form. Step 3 continued. Fill out the form, browse for your file, and upload your spreadsheet. Click Submit. After submitting your spreadsheet you will see a submission id # and the message below. 4. Now you wait while the TRIO Quest staff imports your information a little Jeapordy music please doodoodoodoodoodoodoo When the TRIO Staff are finished importing your information, you will receive an with more instructions (this can take 1 business day). So, for now you can logout and close all windows. While you re waiting, it save you time to have each of your student essays in a folder (each essay saved as the student s name or the title) on your computer for the final step put on some music of your choice while you re doing so if only to get that Jeopardy jingle out of your head.

23 5. After you receive an from TRIO Quest staff with further instructions, you can complete the final step where you submit the.doc,.docx, or.pdf associated to each of your students (who are now in the TRIO Quest system). Click the link within the which will take you to a login page and then to a list of your students (example below). Next to each entry is an icon that looks like a hand holding a pencil. Click that icon and you will be able to submit the.doc, docx, or.pdf for each student on the list. See the print screen below. Notice that all of your student s information appears. All you need to do is Browse for that student s essay, click Open, and click Save and view to complete the submission for that student. Note: there will be a slight delay on the screen there is no need to click the Continue button and you will see the submission page for that entry (see example below).

24 Below is an example of what you will see once you submit an essay. Note you can edit what you have done (click the pencil icon) or delete the entry (click the X). Click Next to continue submitting student essays. It should take only a few seconds for each. You will be able to see the number of your entries at the bottom of the screen. You can click on each number to check the submission. Congratulations! You re done!
