1 NGPS Stand-Alone Viewer DATA DVD This document describes the following uses of the NGPS Data DVD: 1) Initial install of the Data DVD with the NGPS Stand-alone Viewer 2) Use of the Data DVD to view Aircraft Technical Fleet Manuals NOTE: This is only applicable for installations where the data is left on the DVD and NOT installed on the hard-drive (standard FedEx installation) The NGPS Stand-Alone Viewer application MUST be installed prior to using a NGPS DATA DVD. Initial Install Instructions Step 1 Insert Data DVD into the DVD drive bay. a. If autorun is turned on, it will automatically launch the DataInstall.bat program to perform the installation. b. If autorun is not turned on (it doesn t automatically launch) then use Windows Explorer to navigate to the root directory of your DVD drive and run DataInstall.bat by double-clicking on this file name. Step 2 One of the following messages will be displayed depending on which of the following options was specified during the installation of the NGPS Stand-Alone Viewer application. - Leave Data on DVD (standard FedEx installation) - Install Data to hard-drive (recommended vendor installation) a. Leave Data on DVD : If the message below is displayed then see Step 3 to use the Update Publication function within the NGPS Stand-Alone Viewer to install or register the Data DVD.

2 b. Install data to the hard-drive: If the message below is displayed then see Step 8 to use the Setup.exe to install the Data DVD. Only users with Admin rights can run the Setup.exe. The setup.exe will automatically be started when clicking Continue. Step 3 Leave Data on DVD Option: Double-click the NPGS Stand-Alone Viewer short-cut on the desktop then click the Update Publication link at top, right of Stand-Alone Viewer

3 The Following screen will display: Step 4 click the button (...) to the right of the Path text box Step 5 Select the setup.exe on the DVD drive and click Open

4 Step 6 Then click the "Run" button. A "Work in progress" screen will display as shown below. This process may take up to 30 minutes or longer. DO NOT stop this process once started. If you do click Close before the process completes, the application will need to be un-installed and reinstalled. Please exercise patience.

5 Step 7 When completed the following screen will display ("Publication update process succeeded"). Click the Close button. A "No documents are effective." Window may display. Disregard and click OK. The new manuals are now available for viewing. Installation is now complete. Remember that you must have the data DVD loaded in the DVD drive when using the NGPS Stand Alone application with the option to leave data on DVD.

6 Step 8 Install data to Hard-drive: For this option run the setup.exe on the Data DVD. The setup should automatically start after clicking Continue to the message described in Step 2. If not then use Explorer to navigate to the Data DVD and double-click on the setup.exe file. Follow steps 2 thru 10 of the NGPS Stand-Alone Application installation instructions. Do not change any of the default settings. When the Check for Updates Dialog screen appears, DO NOT click Check for Updates, click Next. The installation of the Data to the hard-drive can take up to 2-3 hours depending on the size of the fleet s data. Please be patient. Step 9. Use of the Data DVD to view Aircraft Technical Fleet Manuals In order to view Aircraft Tech Manuals using the NGPS Stand-Alone Viewer, double-click the short-cut located on the desktop named NGPS Stand-Alone Viewer. The NGPS Stand-Alone Viewer will launch. Any fleets that have been installed will be displayed in the drop-down. If the data is not installed on the hard-drive (typical FedEx installation) then the fleet s DVD must be inserted into the DVD drive to view the manuals. If the DVD is not installed then a message prompting for insertion of the DVD will be displayed. If the data is installed on the hard-drive (typical vendor installation) then the fleet s DVD is not required to view the manuals (after initial install).

7 Step 9. Check for Temporary Revisions After the Data DVD has been installed any Temporary Revisions (TRs) that are applicable to the data need to be installed. If the data is installed on the hard-drive (typical vendor) then the Data DVD does not need to be inserted for TRs to be applied. TRs are applied by a daily background process that runs automatically when new TRs are detected. If the data is not installed on the hard-drive (typical FedEx installation) then the fleet s DVD must be inserted into the DVD drive while TRs to be applied. If autorun is enabled the check for Temporary Revisions occurs each time the Data DVD is inserted. Autorun can be enabled by clicking Start > Programs > FedEx TR Distributor > MS Autofix. If autorun cannot be enabled then double-click on the DataInstall.bat file on the Data DVD to check for TRs. A message displaying any TRs that have not been installed will be displayed as shown below. However, only TRs that apply to the fleet of the inserted DVD will be installed. If there are no TRs then the following message will be displayed.

8 If there are pending TRs then clicking Continue will install the TRs. The screen below will be displayed while TRs are being installed. The time required to install TRs varies depending on the number and size of the TRs so can range from 5 minutes to several hours.
