Requirements The SIP server's destination is the Mediatrix 4400, e.g., when a number dialed on an analog phone is unknown, the call is sent to the Mediatrix The left-hand side of the VoIP network setup is functional (Mediatrix 1102, analog phones, SIP server), and the SIP users are correctly registered to the SIP server. 3
4 Mediatrix 4400 Digital Gateway VoIP Gateway with the PSTN This document outlines how to set up one Mediatrix 4402 digital gateway to act as a gateway with the PSTN The Mediatrix 4402 is used to connect an existing VoIP network to the PSTN. The configuration starts with the Mediatrix 4402 default configuration but can be easily customized for the 4404 and From now on, the device will be referred to as the Mediatrix The steps described in the following pages will show you how to setup the Mediatrix 4400 so it can: Receive calls from the PSTN and route them to the VoIP network (e.g., phone 2 calls phone 1): # A user picks up an ISDN phone and dials the number of a line connected to the Mediatrix # The PSTN routes the call to the Mediatrix # The Mediatrix 4400 routes the call to the appropriate Mediatrix 1102, removing necessary prefix (area code 030) from the called number. # The Mediatrix 1102 makes the appropriate analog phone ring. # A user picks up the analog phone and the call is established. Receive calls from the VoIP network and route them to the PSTN on one of the BRI lines connected to the Mediatrix 4400 (e.g. phone 1 calls phone 2): # A user picks up an analog phone and dials a number. # The appropriate Mediatrix 1102 routes the call to the Mediatrix # The Mediatrix 4400 decides to which ISDN BRI interface route this call. # The Mediatrix 4400 adds the necessary prefix (area code 030) to the dialled phone number before routing the call to the PSTN. # the PSTN makes the appropriate ISDN phone ring. # A user picks up the ISDN phone and the call is established

6 Configuration of the Mediatrix 4400 Digital Gateway Using IPv4 to Connect the Mediatrix unit to a Network with a DHCP Before you start Make sure that your network connection is working. If your unit does not have an FXS port, or if you do not have access to the DHCP server's logs, then use the Using IPv4 to Connect the Mediatrix Unit to a Network without a DHCP (p. 7) procedure. 1) Wear an ESD wrist strap, ensuring it makes good contact with your bare skin. 2) Attach the ESD wrist strap end to an earth ground (unpainted bare metal spot of a grounded equipment rack). 3) Make sure the circuit breakers of AC power sources used to power the Mediatrix unit are OFF. 4) Make sure the provided external Power Adaptor is connected to the DC connector of the Mediatrix unit and in an appropriate AC electrical outlet. 5) Connect a 10/100 BaseT Ethernet RJ-45 cable into the ETH1WAN connector of the Mediatrix unit. 6) Connect the other end of the cable to a router/switch connected to your Network. 7) Validate the installation. 8) Turn ON the AC power sources that are used to power the Mediatrix unit at the circuit breaker Note: When the unit is brought from a cold to a warm environment, condensation, that might be harmful to the unit, may occur. If this is the case, wait one hour before connecting the power cord. 9) If you have an FXS port, dial *#*0 to get the IP address or consult the DHCP server's logs to find out your IP address.
7 The Power LED on the unit will be flashing when the unit performs a DHCP query. It will become solid once it successfully gets an IP address from the DHCP server. At this point, you can now use the DHCP IP address to access your unit's management interface. Logging On to the Mediatrix Unit Web Interface (p. 8) Using IPv4 to Connect the Mediatrix Unit to a Network without a DHCP Before you start Your computer must be set to use the private IP address. Make sure that your network connection is working. 5) Connect a 10/100 BaseT Ethernet RJ-45 cable into the ETH2LAN Ethernet connector of the Mediatrix unit. 6) Connect the other end of the cable into your PC. 7) Validate the installation. 8) Turn ON the AC power sources that are used to power the Mediatrix unit at the circuit breaker. Note: When the unit is brought from a cold to a warm environment, condensation, that might be harmful to the unit, may occur. If this is the case, wait one hour before connecting the power cord.
8 You can now use the IP address to access your unit's management interface. Logging On to the Mediatrix Unit Web Interface (p. 8) Logging On to the Mediatrix Unit Web Interface Information For better performances, it is recommended to use the latest available version of Microsoft Internet Explorer, Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox. Note: You may not be able to log on to the Management Interface if you are using older browser versions. The computer's network card must be on the same subnet as the Mediatrix unit. 1) In your web browser, enter the IP address used by your Mediatrix unit to communicate with the Management Interface. If your computer is connected to the Ethernet port, commonly used to be connected to the Local Area Network (LAN), i.e. ETH2 on most devices, use the IP address. If your Mediatrix unit is configured to use a DHCP with IPv4, use the DHCP- provided IP address. 2) Enter public as your username and leave the password field empty.
