2 Page 2 Executive Summary The current generation of IP, version 4 (IPv4), has been in use for more than 20 years and has supported the Internet s rapid growth during that time. With the transformation of the Internet in the 1990s from a research network to a commercialized network, concerns were raised about the ability of IPv4 to accommodate anticipated increasing demand for Internet addresses. In 1993, the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) began a design and standardization process to develop a next generation Internet Protocol that would address, among other issues, the predicted exhaustion of available IPv4 addresses. The resulting set of standards, collectively known as IP version 6 (IPv6), was developed over the course of several years. Although various aspects of these protocols continue to evolve within the IETF, a stable core of IPv6 protocols emerged by Global growth of the Internet has been driven by the increased use of computing and communication technology. Mobile equipment, home appliances and other consumer devices will be online and interconnected. In a new machine to machine Internet, invisible computing devices will far out number current IT devices. Each of these devices needs an IP address. The current Internet Protocol (IP) addressing system that Internet devices use called IPv4 will run out of addresses in A new protocol, IPv6, has been introduced to provide a virtually limit less address space. It will help enable capabilities such as push applications, peer-to-peer based applications and cloud computing over the Internet. The arrival of IPv6 does introduce a new problem for Internet users IPv4 is not compatible with IPv6, and the transition from the earlier standard to the standard of the future presents significant challenges. In this paper we will proud to present collaboration in ASEAN country connectivity and these challenges, together with the initial step is taking to help enable a smooth transition for our ASEAN country We will also provide guidelines to help run some application for testbed in the dual-stack link for our ASEAN country

20 Page 20 IPv6 Conference On 29 th 30 th April 2014.,Thailand invite to representative for ASEAN Country also representative from Japan country conference under the theme Workshop on IPv6 Collaborations in ASEAN 2014 the event at The Central Plaza Ladprao Hotel ii. The Results of IPv6 Collaborations in ASEAN 1. The internet technology is moving from IPv4 to IPv6 world. This is due to no more IPv4 address space for allocation to end clients. However, it is unfortunate that IPv6 is not backward compatible to IPv4, they both have to co-exist. In this project, we aim to make IPv6 connection links between ASEAN
21 Page 21 Member States for IPv6 peering trail. We have found that there are very limited operations to make the link on where IPv6 readiness in each country is a big gap, even we successfully tested with some of our co-business partners who are Internet Service Providers (ISP). 2. The project on IPv6 Collaborations in ASEAN 2012 has been endorsed during the 12th ASEAN TELMIN Meeting in Cebu, Philippines in November, 2012 and received funding support from Japan-ASEAN ICT Fund. Main objective of this project is to update the status of IPv6 in ASEAN Member States and further discuss on the collaboration and IPv6 plan in the future. 3. The Workshop on IPv6 collaborations in ASEAN 2014 which is the part of the project IPv6 Collaborations in ASEAN 2012 was convened from April 2014, in Bangkok, Thailand. 4. The workshop was attended by representatives from Cambodia, Lao PDR, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Viet Nam. The expert from Japan was also in attendance 5. The participants have shared experiences and updated on IPv6 operating/running in each ASEAN Member, discussed on several topics/issues regarding to IPv6 and its related technologies. Among this group, it seems that Thailand and Singapore have some advances level of IPv6 readiness. For example, there are real IPv6 deployment in both government and private sectors. While other countries; Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Philippines, just started on IPv6 deployment. We figured out possible collaborations that will be useful and benefit to most ASEAN economies regarding to IPv6 deployment. iii. Conclusion and Recommendation IPv6 deployment has to be stimulated in a more aggressive way especially in public and private sectors for Both Singapore and Thailand.
22 Page 22 In Thailand, with the assistance of IPv6 Forum Thailand, the measuring and monitoring software can be distributed, so figures of IPv6 deployment can help raise the awareness among government agencies and ISPs. The most important solution to IPv6 situation in other ASEAN member state is to enhance its IPv6 manpower through training programs, since now running out of IPv4 addresses and have not fully developed IPv6 yet. IPv6-related professionals in Lao PDR and Cambodia are expected be trained by IPv6 experts from Japan and Singapore. In the meantime, IPv6 educational programs should be provided by universities. Japan will fully support IPv6 migration in ASEAN especially by organizing workshops and seminars. As governments play a vital role in the success of IPv6 migration in the USA and Japan, it is essential that the Royal Thai Government launches policy as well as provides IPv6 infrastructure. The reason is that ISPs tend to abide by official directions. For long term action plan, ASEAN e-gov Information Exchanging based on IPv6 infrastructure and services need to be considered seriously for ASEAN ICT Master Plan in next 5 years. To that end, dialog, working group, and framework/road map shall be established. For short term action, we all have agreed that human development regarding to IPv6 deployment is an important step, and shall be done first. IPv6 training/workshop to build qualified man power shall be done as soon as possible. Some possible solutions for real implementation have been discussed and concluded.
