Global Presence of ZTE CDMA2000 ZTE ZTE CDMA2000 CDMA2000 products products have have been been successfully successfully applied applied in in countries countries and and served served more more than than operators. operators. Their Their wireless wireless capacity capacity totals totals million million lines lines and and their their base base stations stations total total over over thousand. thousand. 2
Global Broadband Access Growth Trend Volume of the global wireless data service is growing rapidly, the quantity of wireless data users is expected to exceed the quantity of fixed data users for the first time in 2007, and also, the ARPU of wireless data user grows constantly. Which technology should capture the lion share of the broadband access growth? 3
Broadband Access Technologies Speed Range Mobility Product Availability Service Availability DSL/ Cable 3G WiFi WiMax 4
Main Drivers for 3G as a Mainstream Broadband Access Technology People desire mobility (access info anytime, anywhere) In emerging countries, where wireline infrastructure may not be in place, deploying 3G is more economical than laying wires/fibers 3G services have better coverage than other technologies More people have mobile phones than fixed telephone lines; people are increasingly accessing internet via mobile devices 5
Magic Weapon for Data Service Competition in 3G Era - EV-DO Standard version of EV-DO Rev.0 formed in and perfected constantly; standard version of EV-DO Rev.A released in ; Highest downlink rate of EV-DO Rev. A: 3.1Mbps Mbps Uplink rate: 1.8Mbps EV-DO is smooth evolution based on 1X, and EV-DO Rev. A is smooth evolution based on EV-DO Rev.0 technology, not affecting the original network 6
Evolution History of EV-DO EV-DO Rev.0 is designed as a Wide-Area Mobile Wireless Ethernet Optimized support for downlink intensive (asymmetric), delay-tolerant applications such as Web browsing, File Transfer, WAP, IM etc. But can not support such applications with delay-sensitive applications with symmetric data rates as VoIP, Video Telephony etc. 1xEV-DO Revision A Further improves spectral efficiency and peak rate of forward/reverse link. On the other hand, lots of mechanisms are designed to strengthen support for real-time service by the system. By introducing more refined rate grade division, more efficient resource allocation algorithm, shorter end-to-end delay and QoS differentiation of multiple flows, 1xEV-DO RevA can effectively support QoS requirements of various applications. Some upper-layer features of 1xEV-DO Rev A can run on the DO Rev. 0 hardware, such as BCMCS and QoS differentiation, and they form enhanced DO. 1xEV-DO Rel. 0 1xEV-DO Enhanced 1xEV-DO Rev.A 7
EV-DO: Unceasingly-Evolving IP WAN The EV-DO evolves forward in three directions, that is, better spectral efficiency (bits/hz), stronger service feature (Low latency service, Multicast), and higher peak rate. The DO evolves from Rev.0 to Rev.A and from Rev.A to Rev.B in a smooth manner. The new standard is compatible with the former standard. All system bands take 1.25 MHz as the basic unit, facilitating the smooth transition of operators. DO Revision 0 Designed for asymmetric IP traffic and Best Effort applications, such as FTP, Web browsing. DO Revision A Highly optimized QoS for VoIP and other low delay apps, designed for more symmetric IP traffic. DO revision B Designed for wider frequency blocks (up to 20MHz) with higher peak rates and higher spectral efficiency 8
Development Plan of ZTE CDMA2000 In 3Q 2006, deliver a CSM6800-based EV-DO Rev. A commercial system with following functions: Support the forward peak rate 3.1Mbps and reverse peak rate 1.8Mbps. Support the IWS (Inter Working Solution) and improve the interoperability between 2G and 3G systems. Support the Gold BCMCS (Broadcast & Multicast Service). One sector carrier can provide the broadcast multicast bandwidth of 400Kbps. 9
Future Development Plan of ZTE CDMA2000 In 1Q 2007, launch the CSM6800-based EV-DO Rev. A system with full functions. Based on the 3Q 2006 version, add the following functions: Support the full QoS management, including the Inter-User and Intra-User QoS management. Support the Platinum BCMCS. One sector carrier can provide the broadcast multicast bandwidth of 1.2Mbps. Support the VoIP service. Support the VT service. In addition, ZTE closely follows the 3GPP2 evolution path. After the 1xEV-DO Rev. B version is mature, the EV-DO Rev. B system is estimated to come out in 2Q Thanks to multi-carrier modulation technology, it can provide the super high-speed packet data service with forward 73.5Mbps and reverse 27Mbps. 10

Benefits: TrFO TrFO (Transcoder Free Operation) is a mechanism for configuring a call so that no transcoders are needed in the network. TrFO achieves bandwidth efficiencies in the bearer stream and reduces round trip delays introduced by unnecessary transcoding. Also, TrFO may increase voice quality. 18
Benefits: RTO RTO (Remote Transcoder Operation) is a mechanism for configuring a call so that only one transcoder resource is needed in the network. RTO is just a special case of TrFO. 19
Benefits: MS-PSTN/Toll Call, RTO Signaling over IP Signaling over TDM Bearer over IP Bearer over TDM Router SIP Application Server IP Backbone Network Router Router IP Network 12Kbps ZXC10 MSCe IP Network ZXC10 MGW ZXC10 MSCe ZXC10 MGW ZXC10 MGW ZXC10 MGW LE LE RTO EVRC to TDM/64k LE PSTN Only one Transcoder is needed in the bearer path (terminating MGW) Improved voice quality (Higher MOS, less latency) Save 85.4% bandwidth compared to G.711/IP, better QoS for toll call. 20
Benefits (2): Bandwidth Efficiency, IP Backhaul Dynamics TDM switch or softswitch using TDM interfaces adopts a 64Kbps circuit for each voice call. For All-IP, we can use EVRC for voice, the rate of EVRC is only 8Kbps. EVRC is a multi-rate voice codec that supports variable rate transmission of speech based on voice activity. The highest rate of EVRC is called Full Rate. The vocoder also produces signals at Half Rate signal and an Eighth Rate signal depending on speech characteristics. Multiple frames can be carried by one IP packet, so the overhead will be shared by multiple frames, further improve the bandwidth efficiency. 21
Advanced All-IP Hardware Architecture Common Platform for Next Generation Mobile Switch Equipment CDMA2000 products based on unified All-IP hardware design & development, including CDMA2000 CN and BSC, provide abundant 3G services for commercialized networks worldwide; Same platform for WCDMA, TD-SDMA, NGN etc. of ZTE ZTE CDMA2000 All-IP serial Products MSCe MGW PDSN AAA HLRe BSC 22
Benefits Summary of CDMA2000 All-IP Network Benefits of All-IP IP transport between NEs: Flexible network deployment, and flexible transmission selection; Flat networking using IP routers and no need to deploy Tandem MGW in IP network. Cost savings for transmission bandwidth between MGW and BSC, (Save up to 80.5% bandwidth compared with TDM) Cost savings for transmission bandwidth between MGW and MGW for local and toll call (save up to 85.4% compared with G.711 over IP) Toll call via IP network not TDM network, less cost for toll call means more revenue and competitive edge TrFO/RTO Cost savings for vocoders (up to 30%-40% or even more) Improved voice quality (less round trip delay, higher MOS) Smooth migration to All-IP network and IMS, no need to consider hardware replacement in the future BCMCS support (multi-cast and broadcast is a unique feature of IP network) 23
