1 Apantac Tahoma Multiviewers - TSL interface All Apantac Tahoma Multiviewers provide TSL protocol support for dynamic Labels and Tally Management as standard. With the current Tahoma FW version, the Version 3.1 of the TSL protocol is implemented, both over Serial and Ethernet interfaces. The support of the Version 5.0 of the TSL protocol is under development Interfaces Serial Interface Tahoma chassis have one RS 232 (RJ45) port that can be configured for the TSL protocol. For easy interfacing, a RJ-45 to DSub9 Male breakout cable is supplied with each Tahoma chassis. The pin out information is below. If the TSL Controller only provides a RS-422 interface, then either a customer supplied or Apantac RS 232 <> RS 422 converter may be required. The Apantac RS 232 <> RS 422 converter (Reference CR ) is a self powered converter that gets the 5 VDC power directly from the Tahoma Multiviewer. Note that the presence of the 5 VDC (Pin 9 of the DSub 9 M connector) is FW dependant. Please contact your Apantac representative in case this 5 VDC is not present. The TSL protocol is a one way protocol. In other words, only the RX (pin 3 of the DSub9 M) and ground (pin 5 of the DSub9 M) need to be connected.

2 In some occasions, a pseudo RS 232 <> 422 conversion is being used. The wiring is as follow: TSL Controller - RS-422 Tahoma Multiviewer - RS 232 TX RX (pin 3 of the DSub9 M) GND GND (pin 5 of the DSub9 M) Make sure the TX- (not the TX+) of the RS422 side is used. This information is provided for convenience only. We cannot however guaranty that this type of interfacing will work in all situations The communication parameters for the TSL over serial interface are: bauds, 8 bits, even parity and 1 stop bit. Ethernet Interface Each Tahoma Multiviewer has a unique Ethernet IP port that is used for configuration via Director, TSL protocol and AXP (Apantac exchange protocol) interfaces Each Tahoma Multiviewer has a fixed configurable IP address. Thus, make sure that the TSL Controller is configured for IP addresses that match the Tahoma Multiviewer(s) IP address(es) Tahoma Multiviewers Configuration The purpose of the following section is to provide help with the configuration of the TSL interface. Refer to the Director Configuration Manual for overall Tahoma Multiviewers configuration Minimum FW and SW versions Apantac Multiviewers FW information can be obtained through Director, the configuration application: Help > All Module Information. The FW information has the following format: YYYYMMDD where YYYY is the year, MM the month and DD the day of the FW release date. (E.g indicates that the FW was released the 31 st of March, 2010) KZB (Control board) and QSB (Processing boards) FW information is provided. Only the KZB FW information is relevant as far as TSL support is concerned TSL Protocol Version 3.1 over serial interface is supported by Tahoma FW versions from September 2009 onwards. However Tahoma FW versions from the

3 31 st of March, 2010 onwards provide extra TSL messages filtering in case corrupted or incomplete TSL messages are received TSL Protocol Version 3.1 over Ethernet interface is supported by Tahoma FW versions from the 31 st of March, 2010 onwards Tahoma Multiviewers Tally Configuration Tahoma multiviewers support up to four tally levels. Five different Tally attributes can be controlled independently via GPIs or TSL protocol: The left UMD LED The right UMD LED The Window Border Color The UMD Text Color The UMD Background Color To configure the four tally levels colors, do: System > GPI Tally Settings > Click on Color and choose one color for each of the 4 Tally Levels > Press the Set to All button Tahoma Serial Port Configuration The Tahoma Multiviewer RS 232 must be configured for TSL in case the interface to the TSL Controller is implemented over a serial line. To this end do:

4 System > Control Board Settings > Select Mode 2: TSL for the Communication port setting and press OK > you will have to save the configuration and reboot the Tahoma Multiviewer for this to take effect No Ethernet set up is required when using TSL over IP TSL Configuration Menus The configuration of TSL addresses and Tally attributes is done through: System > Set TSL address > adjust the various settings > Press OK

5 For each window with TSL support, check Enable TSL, specify the address and press SET. The top Apply to All button enables TSL support for all the windows. However different addresses for each window are usually required and will have to be set. Then select for each of the 4 tally levels which attribute(s) the corresponding TSL Tally information bit (4 per each TSL message) shall activate. Note that several attributes can be checked for the same Tally information bit E.g. Border: 1 and UMD Bkg: 1 can be both checked. Also the same attribute can be checked for several Tally levels E.g. LED1: 1 and LED1: 2 can be both checked. A priority applies in case both tally information bits are set: Tally level 1 has precedence over Tally level 2, Tally level 2 has precedence over Tally level 3, etc The bottom Apply to All button allows applying the same Tally assignment to all windows. Notes: Each configuration preset may have a different TSL configuration (Except the RS 232 port configuration which is a system parameter)

6 Once TSL is set for one window, the window specific TSL menu can be accessed by: Right click on the window > Set TSL Stand alone extra labels (2 per window) can also be configured for TSL. One LED, Text Color and Text Background color can be controlled TSL TallyMan Configuration Notes TallyMan is the software application running on the Label & Tally Management platforms from the TSL company in UK, such as TM2+. These notes are aimed at helping configuring some the specific parameters for interfacing the Tahoma Multiviewers The TSL V3.1 protocol messages carry 4 bits for managing Tally indications. The Tahoma Multiviewer configuration allows mapping these 4 Tally bits to windows tally attributes. When configuring TallyMan, use Basic (L R) instead of Extended for Tally Bits settings Communication parameters settings TSL over Serial Communication parameters settings TSL over IP The IP address in Network Parameters is the IP address of the Tahoma Multiviewer

7 GV Jupiter Control System Configuration Notes The Jupiter Control system from Grass Valley supports the TSL protocol over RS 422 Serial interface. 8 characters labels and one tally level are supported. The following notes address typical configuration issues: In the MPK Devices Table, TSL UMD addresses are in hexadecimal while Director addresses are in decimal. E.g. Jupiter address 20 is Director window address 32 In the MPK Devices Table, make sure that all TSL UMD addresses are unique, even if UMDs are attached to different ports Often the recommended maximum number of UMD addresses per port is exceeded. This may result in having Jupiter not refreshing sometimes all the UMDs, specifically when a Sequence is recalled or when using the Save/Restore feature. Resetting crosspoints is usually enough to refresh the UMDs Jupiter does not continuously refresh the TSL UMD. In case the Tahoma Multiviewer is rebooted or powered after Jupiter, you will have to reset the crosspoints to update the UMDs status
