3 What is EEH? IBM s Enterprise Exception Handler A centralized handler for exceptions and events generated by distributed systems Allows exception records to persist without distributed log files Allows querying of exception database based on user roles and security Communicates via REST API with web and mobile interfaces Web interface was created by another senior design group from NCSU 3

4 Major Requirements Platform independent Exception notifications based on query Information/Warning = silent notification Error = vibrate Fatal Error = sound Queries saved to user profile Access across mobile and web interfaces Display the same information as the web interface Similar color scheme: Bluemix colors No heavy client side processing: interact with a REST API Role based security Mobile friendly display of event correlation Web Interface 4

6 IBM MobileFirst MobileFirst platform studios is an Eclipse plugin that supports cross-platform development for both ios and Android devices. User can develop, manage and debug application by using MobileFirst console. 6

7 API Integration API backend built with StrongLoop API provides endpoints for EEH-Mobile to interface with the EEH-server to send and receive data in JSON format Authentication token generated when user connects to backend with /login endpoint All API endpoints exposed require authentication token to interact with The API endpoints can be seen here 7

8 Connections App can maintain a persistent list of possible EEH connections. Only one live-connection allowed at a time Live connections can receive push notifications Connection options Connect Edit Delete Toggle push notifications 8

9 Connection Security All API access is associated with a connection and token-protected. Tokens are acquired after authenticating with an on-device password. Passwords are only decrypted and sent over the network on connect or reconnect. 9

10 On-Device Encryption MobileFirst JSONStore Persistent storage of JSON documents with AES- 256 encryption Any action requiring the connection username/password will require the user to enter their device-level JSONStore password. JSONStore password set on app startup and can be reset by clearing all on-device data (in settings) 10

11 Exceptions Color coded according to priority User can query exceptions for certain criteria Clicking a single exception shows the details of the clicked exception From the details screen you can view exception headers, exception parameters, and header parameters. Exceptions are paginated based on user preference 11

12 Sliding Menu Modified from startbootstrap s off-canvas sidebar template: MIT License Uses Bootstrap3, JQuery, and CSS3 transitions Provides access to: Connections Exceptions Events Notifications Settings Clear data, MQTT status, device notifications on/off 12

13 Queries User can Query by field name Query multiple field names at once Save a query Load a saved query Edit/Delete loaded query Saved Queries are stored in backend database Save/load/edit/delete are all API calls This allows user access to the same saved queries from any device 13

14 Notifications Push notifications are provided through the MQTT protocol. Long-lived TCP connection to a broker that negotiates topic subscriptions and forwards published messages No SMS charges 14

15 Receiving Notifications Notifications are optionally subscribed to when a query is run Must set a TTL Notifications Screen Can run the associated query delete notification unsubscribe Colored by incoming exception severity Most severe exceptions cause notification chime and/or vibration Can unsubscribe from a topic/query for entire device for connection for specific query 15

19 ios 19 Requirements: Apple products Computer, Eclipse, Xcode software and ios device. Process: Development can be done either on Eclipse or Xcode. Deployment is Xcode only. Creating an entitlement.plist files to store provisioning profile information: App ID Device information Certificates Signing Identities Debugging distribution. Enable all capabilities: Keychain sharing for password storing Remote notification Device & ios version testing: iphone 4S running ios 6 ipad Air 2 running ios 9.3

20 Android All development done with Android SDK CLI tools and Eclipse Android Developer Tools MobileFirst automatically generates the Android project skeleton, you just have to make sure it s pointing to a valid build target Tested and deployed on a Samsung Galaxy S3 running Android Simulated on newer versions Manual edits to AndroidManifest.xml Add a permissions element to turn on Cordova vibration functions Update application icons in the drawable folders 20
