1 Page 1 UNIVERGE SV8500 SOFTWARE UPGRADE PROCEDURE FROM S5 TO S6 SCOPE This document explains how to upgrade the software on the UNIVERGE SV8500 from FP S5 software to FP S6 software. For details on any information contained in this document, or anything related to the upgrade, refer to the UNIVERGE SV8500 S6 Installation Manual (NWA ). Read the entire procedure and understand the steps fully, prior to implementing this procedure. INFORMATION NEW OS: From S1 to S5 software, the base OS for the SV8500, the SR-MGC(E) and the SR-MGC(S) was MontaVista Linux. Beginning in S6 software, the base OS for the SV8500 and the SR-MGC(E) is Red Hat Linux. The new Red Hat Linux OS and the S6 software, requires that an 8G Compact Flash card is used; the old 2G CF cards cannot be used with S6 software (or higher). NEW SV8500 CPU CARD: Beginning in S6, there is a new type of CPU card. CF-CP00 is the older type CPU card. CF-CP02 is the newer type CPU card. Both CPU cards work with S6 software. The new CPU card (CF-CP02) is not supported on S5 software and below. Dual CPUs: The two types of CPU cards cannot be mixed; the same type of CPU card must be used for both System-0 and System-1. NEW SV8500 EMA CARD: Beginning in S6, there is a new type of EMA card. SCG-PC00-A is the older type EMA card. SCG-PC00-B is the newer type EMA card. SCG-PC00-B supports both types of CPU cards (CF-CP00 & CF-CP02). SCG-PC00-A only supports the older type of CPU card (CF-CP00). CPU vs. EMA CPU CARD EMA CARD CF-CP00 CF-CP02 SCG-PC00-A X SCG-PC00-B Note: To determine the type of card, check the Product Label on the front of the card. DVD: Beginning with S6 software, there are three DVDs; whereas previously there was only one. DISC #1: Includes the installation tools, the programming and support documentation and three S6 image files. The image files are for the SV8500, the SR-MGC(E), and the SR-MGC(S). These images are used for upgrade Procedure #1. DISC #2: Is for the SV8500 & SRMGC(E); used to load the CF card(s) from scratch (Procedure #2). DISC #3: Is for the SR-MGC(S); used to load the CF card(s) from scratch (Procedure #2). Note for Disc #2 and Disc #3: These discs also contain image files that are used only for program upgrades. These image file are very different than the image file on Disc #1. The image file on Disc #2 and Disc #3 cannot be used to upgrade the software from S5 to S6. However, once the systems are upgraded to S6 software, the images on Disc #2 and #3 can be used for future program upgrades. The program upgrade procedure using the images on Disc #2 and Disc #3 is not covered in this document. PROCEDURES: There are two types of software upgrade procedures described in this document. Procedure #1: Uses the image file and tools from Disc #1. This is the recommended procedure. Procedure #2: Initializes the CF cards from scratch, using Disc #2. This procedure should only be used when it has been determined to be necessary by an NEC engineer.

2 Page 2 UCE2011 If using UCE2011 with S6 software, MA4000 must be version (or higher) and LMC must be (or higher). Both can be downloaded from the NEC NTAC Knowledgebase. SOFTWARE UPGRADE PROCEDURE #1 I. REQUIREMENTS 1. SV8500 FP S6 DVD Disc #1. 2. NEC 8G Compact Flash card; two for dual CPUs. 3. SV8500 PCPro; version or higher. 4. PCPro Tools*; version or higher. 5. Maintenance PC with a DVD drive, a USB port, Windows Internet Explorer 7.0 or higher, and Microsoft.NET Framework 3.5 or higher. *Note: PCPro Tools is not used in S6 software, but it will be used in this procedure to download the office data and license file from the SV8500 when it is still at S5 software. Because the maintenance PC is a shared resource and because PCPro Tools has become the default location to store and retrieve SV8500 files, it is an intuitive location for everyone who uses the maintenance PC, to search when looking for files for the SV8500. Because of this, we will also use it to store the S6 license file. II. DATABASE BACKUP Upgrade the tools listed in Section-I to the current versions. The following information uses System-0 as the active CPU, Drive-A as the active Program Data drive and Drive-B as the active Office Data drive. Make selections as they apply to your SV SV8500 PCPro: Backup the database. Log into your SV8500. Launch the MEM_HDD command. Direction Select: Select Memory to Hard Disk. Name the folder something meaningful, such as S6_License_BldgA. Copy the S6 license file (svi.zip) that you have received from LMS, into this new PCPro Tools folder. If PCPro Tools was installed in the default location, the license will be in the following directory: C:\Program Files\PCPro Tools\Data\<S5 software folder name>\license\<s6 license folder name> III. INITIALIZE THE CF CARD(S) Note: Using spare 8G CF card(s) is the optimum choice when loading new software, otherwise the existing SV8500 CF card(s) will need to be re-used, which requires the system to be down for the remainder of this procedure. 1. Insert Disc #1 of the S6 DVD into the DVD drive of the maintenance PC. 2. Insert the 3 rd party USB MultiCard Reader/Writer tool into the USB port on the maintenance PC. 3. Shutdown the SV8500: Single CPU re-using existing 8G CF card: Shutdown the SV8500 using the SINZ command and remove the 8G CF card. Continue to step-4. Single CPU using a spare 8G CF card: Skip this shutdown step and continue to step-5. Dual CPU using spare 8G CF cards: Skip this shutdown step and continue to step-5. *Note: Any IP device that is registered to the StandBy CPU, will reset once the StandBy CPU is shutdown. If configured correctly, the IP devices will re-register to the Active CPU. The CTSP command can be used to view the quantity of IP stations that will be affected by the shutdown of the StandBy CPU. The IPAN or DIPI commands can be used to view the individual IP devices that will be affected by a the shutdown of the StandBy CPU. 4. Make a backup image, on the maintenance PC, of your SV8500 S5 CF card. This step is optional. If re-using the existing CF card, doing this step will increase the amount of time that the system is down. However, if for whatever reason, you need to cut-back to S5 software, this will make the cut-back very quick. If you do not wish to make a backup image, skip this step and continue to step-5. Insert the S5 8G CF card (removed in step-3) into the 3 rd party USB MultiCard Reader/Writer tool. Note: If a Microsoft Windows pop-up is shown, stating You need to format the disk in drive F: before you can use it. Do you want to format it? Press Cancel. Do not press Format Disk!
