1 Arrows and Watermark Alex Bodnar Period: Directions: The purpose of these two activities are to create objects/elements that will help you to better explain your instructions to people reading your tutorial. Please follow the instructions exactly as you see them. Pay particular attention to the photos and make certain your windows look like the ones shown to avoid any mistakes. Making Arrows, Making a Watermark, and Cropping Your Page If you look at my example above you will see four red arrows pointing in different directions and my name also in red. Pay particular attention to the red arrows. They all have a white outline and a special effect that make them appear to float off of the page. STEP 1: Open Photoshop and make certain you have the name Photoshop in the upper left corner of your screen. STEP 2: Press Command + N in order to create a new blank document in Photoshop. You will see many complicated options. Just make sure you change the Preset to Web.

2 STEP 3: Press the D key on your keyboard. It defaults the colors to black and white. (See above) STEP 4: Press the U key on your keyboard. It selects the Shape Tool. You may see some other shape selected, but donʼt worry! Just go to the next step. STEP 5: After you press the key above, look at the top of the screen. Specifically, make certain these settings are selected. (Look above) Keep scrolling to the next page

3 STEP 6: Look at the example above. Look at #1 in red. You may see a different symbol in the white button, but donʼt worry. Just click the only white button that appears in this spot. Next, select Arrow 9. Itʼs a thick black arrow. STEP 7: Click the Color box you see above listed with a #1. Next, type in the code you see at #2. This will make the color of the arrow red!

4 STEP 8: Click-and-Drag your mouse until you create a tiny red arrow. How small is small? Just look at the picture above! It should be really small! (By the way, if you want your rulers to appear along the edge of your workspace just press Command + R) STEP 9: If you look at your Layers window. You will see a new layer created! Itʼs called Shape 1 (By the way, if you donʼt see your Layers window just navigate to View > Layers)

5 STEP 10: Look at the bottom of your Layers window. Click on the fx button. (See the image above) STEP 11: Choose the Drop Shadow option from the menu that appears.

6 STEP 12: The Layer Style window will appear. Look at the picture above. Make sure you put in the same information. Donʼt click the OK button just yet. READ THE NEXT STEP! STEP 13: Look at the numerical sequence above! You need to first click on the word: Stroke. Type in 3 for the stroke size. Last, make sure the color is set to white.

7 STEP 14: If you did everything correctly, your arrow should now look like mine and your Layers window should also look like mine! STEP 15: Press Command + J for a total of three times until you have 4 copies of your arrow appear in your Layers Window. Look at the picture above.

8 STEP 16: Select your Move Tool (or just press V on your keyboard) STEP 17: Since your topmost layer is already selected, click-and-drag your mouse to the left until you have moved your arrow to the left. (See picture above) STEP 18: Select your second layer. (Se picture above)

9 STEP 19: Repeat Step 17, but move your arrow to the top. (See picture above) STEP 20: Lastly, select your third layer. And move your arrow down. (See image above)

10 STEP 21: If you click on the eye to the left of the arrows (see image above) you will see that the arrow on the left disappears. STEP 22: Rename this layer Left by double-clicking on the word. (See image above)

11 STEP 23: Rename the rest of the layers! STEP 24: Starting with the layer at the top, select it.

12 STEP 25: Navigate to Edit > Transform > Flip Horizontal. When you choose Flip Horizontal you will see you arrow facing the opposite direction! (See image below) Keep scrolling to the next page

13 STEP 26: Select the layer you renamed Up. (You may have renamed it Top ) STEP 27: Navigate to Edit > Transform > Rotate 90 degrees CCW. When you choose Rotate 90 degrees CCW you will see you arrow facing in the UP direction! (See image below)

14 STEP 28: Continue rotating your arrows until they look like mine above! (Think Nintendo controller) YOUʼRE DONE MAKING ARROWS! Making a Watermark STEP 1: Select your Text tool. (By the way, you can easily do this by pressing T on your keyboard) STEP 2: When you select your Text tool the submenu above will change. Make sure you have the SAME information I have! (I also numbered them for you above to make it easier)

15 STEP 3: Click below your bottom arrow. STEP 4: Type your full name. (See image above) STEP 5: Check this to tell Photoshop youʼre done typing. (See image above)

16 STEP 6: After you type your name, click on the same small fx button you clicked on at the bottom of your Layers window back on Step 10. (See image above) STEP 7: Choose Stroke... (See image above) STEP 8: Look at the picture above. Make sure you have the same three attributes and then, press OK. YOUʼRE DONE MAKING A WATERMARK! Scroll to the next page

17 Cropping Your Image STEP 1: Click on the C key on your keyboard. This gives you access to the Crop Tool STEP 2: Click-and-drag a square around your arrows and watermark. (See image above) Scroll to the next page

18 STEP 3: Press the Enter key on your keyboard to tell Photoshop youʼre happy with your crop. Your document should shrink down to what you see below: STEP 4: Save this as 7_arrows_watermark.psd YOUʼRE DONE CROPPING YOUR ASSIGNMENT!
