1 SMART Board Notebook Software, Version 10 Interactive Whiteboard is the generic name for SMART Board, Mimio, etc. SMART Board Notebook is an application that comes with SMART Board and works on the Mimio as well. Create all notebooks logged on as LOCAL GUEST. Youʼll be designing a lot of notebooks, they tend to be large files and take up space - youʼll run out of room in your network account. Consider saving notebooks on and external hard drive, usb flash drive or CDs. The SMART Board White Board Some computers require you to start up items (SB Service and Tools) other donʼt. Get to know your computer and what the procedures on it are. Look for the solid green light - youʼll know youʼre ready to go! Orient You will need to orient the SMART Board to be sure the projector, screen and computer are all in alignment. If you write in one location and your handwriting appear in another, itʼs time to orient. There are two ways to orient the screen. 1. In the tool tray, press both buttons by the eraser at the same time. With the pen, click on each target as prompted. 2. In the Application Folder > SMART Board Drivers > Orient SMART Board Tools The Tools allow you to write and highlight anything projected on the screen (not just in notebook files). 3 Working with Pages Tab Add - click on menu bar icon, choose insert blank page or clone page from drop down list. Rename - help to organize pages 1. Select Rename Page from drop down 2. Click on page name, wait a second, click again and type new name. Clone - makes duplicate of page, can be a real time saver Reorder - drag and drop page to desired location Background - add a color background, Format > Background Color Screen Shade - cover page behind a reveal screen Working with Text Boxes Create Drop down arrow give you these choices Click on text icon Select pre-formatted box, then click on notebook page. Format Edit (Difference between text box and object mode - black dashed lines). Double click text object to get to text edit mode. K Martell Page 3 Jan 2014

4 Handwriting Recognition Use pen and write a word on the screen. Click the arrow and draw a box around the word. An object box should appear, click the down arrow and select the correct word. Link You can link to websites (URL), attached files or other pages in the notebook. See Linking Handout for directions. Working with Objects " Click on the object icon, select shape then drag desired size on page. Shapes/lines - select from shape icon Rotate Rotate - green ball Resize - white ball Fill - Click on shape with arrow, then Properties Tab Line - Click on shape with arrow, then Properties Tab Order (Layer) - move forward or back Group - shift + click to select more than one item, then click group Link (see Linking Handout) Shape Recognition - Draw a shape with the pen. Click the arrow and draw a box around the shape. An object box should appear, click the down arrow and select the shape. Lock - itʼs important to lock all non moving object to avoid use frustration. Lock in place - object will not move, green and white balls will not appear Allow to move - object will move, but green and white balls will not appear Working with Tables Create Click on table icon, select the desired number of rolls and columns. 5 Table Shades - add from drop down arrow. Shade a table cell - Click in a cell and then Control + Click " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " Extras Magic Pen - " Draw a circle to spotlight TIP: Once the student opens the shade it needs to be reset. Avoid this by having students select Donʼt Save when quitting! " Draw a square to zoom in " (Click red ball to escape) Screen Capture - Use these keys to 'take a picture' with you mouse! Then paste the image onto your Notebook page. Shift + Control + Command (Apple) + 4 Draw a rectangle around your desired image. When you release the mouse the 'picture' will be saved to your clipboard. Paste the image right into your SMART Board Notebook page. K Martell Page 5 Jan 2014
