1 In this course, students upload assignments to their websites hosted on the coislinux.austincc.edu server. Each student is supplied with a password protected account to access their individual websites. Sample account credentials are supplied in Figure 1. Access your Website Credentials in Blackboard via Tools My Grades Website Credentials View Full Comment. The username is in yellow and the password is in blue. The username and password are used to access your site in two ways. First, files and directories are uploaded and maintained on the site via an SSH client (e.g. WinSCP, CoreFTP, FileZilla). Second, sites are viewed via a browser. Again, username and password credentials are required for both uploading and viewing. (Note: the username is the same for your ACC lab account with no L.) In Figure 1, the ssh client line is used to access the site for upload of files and directories. Instructions for using FileZilla (a free and common upload tool) are provided below. The http browser line is placed in the url box of a browser to view the site. Note the tilde ~ and capital L in the url data. Figure 1 1. 2 3. Host: cois-linux.austincc.edu 4. Protocol: SFTP SSH File Transfer Protocol. 5. Logon Type: Ask for Password (must do this on a machine that is not your own). 6. User: L (use assigned username). 7. Select Connect and Figure 3 appears. Figure 3 8. Password: z7&be$k2y& (use assigned password) and select OK. 9. Your local directory appears in the left pane and the remote student website appears in the right pane (Figure 4). DO NOT modify files or directories at this level. Figure 4 Page 2 of 7

3 10. All of your work (files and directories) will be uploaded to public_html (highlighted). It is known as the top level of your site. 11. The initial contents of public_html are displayed in Figure 5. DO NOT modify the.htaccess file. 4 Additional useful settings in FileZilla: 1. Select the Advanced tab and set the Default local directory for convenience. 2. Default local directory: (assign as appropriate). 3. Rename your site as desired by selecting the site and selecting Rename. Reminder: the username (in yellow in Figure 1) is the same for your ACC lab account without the L. Therefore, in the example above, is the ACC lab account username for this student. Lab account passwords are provided in class for classroom students. Distance learning students should contact lab personnel for a login password if a lab account is desired. Remember that you already have the username.
