4 1. egps Start After the start of the program you can check the OAF status. Click on the OAF bar. In this picture the OAF status is shown in detail. Select the GPS mode and the antenna. Select "Options" in the menu to make changes in the GPS settings. Effective 08/23/11 Page 4 of 13

5 2. egps Configuration 2.1 General Settings Before using egps please review the available settings. Click on "Options" in the menu. egps can start up any external program when GPS is enabled successfully. Click on "Browse" to select the program. You can also choose if GPS, Modem or Bluetooth will be turned off when exiting the program. By using the on/off buttons you can turn them on or off individually. Click on Reset to reset the receiver board. A click on Clear NVRAM clears the NVRAM of the board. The option Internet APN allows you to assign the access data for an internet connection. Use this option in the case the GPS device has established an internet connection never before ~ e.g. using TPS connection manager. Effective 08/23/11 Page 5 of 13

6 2.2 GPS Options You find all settings for initializing the GPS device board on the tab GPS. Click on "Change" to set the output options. You can select Standard NMEA, NMEA combined with TPS or TPS only. Set the output format and output port here. NMEA basic includes GGA messages only; NMEA includes the whole range of NMEA messages; NMEA & TPS is designed for advanced users e.g. customers using ArcPad & etopplus 2.3 Output Options In the Details tab you can select the NMEA messages for output. In the standard mode all types of messages are selected. The picture above shows an individual selection of NMEA messages. Effective 08/23/11 Page 6 of 13

7 2.4 Extended Options You can select a device and an antenna in the extended options. If necessary set the comport and baudrate manually. Select bluetooth if the device will be connected via bluetooth. You can insert an offset or select one from the list. The offset will be used to calculate the correct height of the GPS position. 2.5 SBAS/EGNOS Select "SBAS / EGNOS" in the GPS options. On the SBAS tab you can change several options for receiving SBAS /EGNOS signals. Effective 08/23/11 Page 7 of 13

8 2.6 NTRIP Select the mode "NTRIP" in the GPS options. Configure the NTRIP reference network here. A click on Refresh will update the mount point list. Then you can select the desired mount point. Format: select RTCM message format and the network (Topcon, Trimble or Leica) Solution type: DGPS, RTK etc. 2.7 Profiles You can create different profiles which will appear on the start screen of egps. This allows you to create easy to use 'short cuts'. So you don't have to change the settings all the time if you want to work with different configurations. Create new empty profiles by saving them under a specific and easy identifiable name. Effective 08/23/11 Page 8 of 13

9 Select the profile that you like to edit and click on Edit. The profile name is shown in brackets all the time on top of the screen while editing. Click OK to save the settings and return to the start screen of egps. Alternatively you can select the next profile to edit and proceed the same way. 2.8 The Profile Mode Select "Profile mode" in the menu to enable the profile mode. 10 3. GPS Connection with Correction First set up an internet connection by modem when using NTRIP. Then click on the button "Enable GPS". The green colour of the GPS status bar indicates that there are no correction data received. Click on the GPS status bar to check the GPS status. Select "Skyplot" in the menu to open the position window. Here you can see the positions of the satellites and their use for calculating the position. 11 A click on the position window shows the information about the quality of GPS in detail. The quality of the connection shown in the picture is GPS. The colour of the GPS status bar turns blue when correction data are received. Now the GPS data is processed with correction. Click on the GPS status bar to check the GPS status. Select "Skyplot" in the menu. Here you can see the adjusted positions of the satellites and their use for calculating the position. 12 4. The Skyplot You can align the Skyplot "North up" or in direction using the internal compass. 13 5. The Camera You can take a photo with the camera. For this purpose enable GPS and select "Photo" in the menu. A click on the blue key "ENT" of the device will take a photo. Confirm the taken photo with "OK". You can choose the save options and add a remark. At the bottom edge of the photo the date, time and the serial number of the GPS device will be added.
