2 WELCOME TO... Chonicle Technical Assistance lesson. This file will go into start up procedures required to perform your tasks of preparing forms for creative material to be produced as well as coordinating the issues run sheet forwarded to the production section INTRO In detail we will cover. 3 FINDER PREFERENCES... To ensure we are all working with the same desktop views and navigations, there are a few preferences we should set. By clcking your mouse on the desktop the Finder Menu Options will appear. Under the Finder Menu select preferences. FINDER PREFS Select the GENERAL TAB. CHECK OFF THE AREAS AS ILLUSTRATED IN THE ACCOMPANYING PIC. (TOP RIGHT) This will now mount HARDRIVES; CDs, Drives (external) as well as connected servers.

4 INTRO FINDER PREFS SERVER LOGIN KEYCHAIN e FORMS FILE ASSOCIATION PRINTING TABLOID SERVER LOGIN... 1 You will be required to access the Chronicle Server Area to retrieve and deposit materials. To log onto the server there are two means to do so. SERVER LOG IN 1) menu command : Click desktop Finder _Go_Connect to Server 2) shortcut: Click desktop - Command Key + k Both will prompt a server connection. Select: afp://design.lan

5 INTRO FINDER PREFS SERVER LOGIN KEYCHAIN e FORMS FILE ASSOCIATION PRINTING TABLOID SERVER LOGIN... 2 Once connection to the server has been established you will need to enter the shared log on credentials. NAME: advertising2 PASSWORD:XXXXXXXXX >do not select Remember this password... < SERVER LOG IN If this dialoge box of fields does not appear it indicates that, on past log ins onto the server, you have selected the option - Remember Me. This needs to be cleared in order to allow input of alternative credentials.

6 KEYCHAIN Clearing your Keychain of log ins is required to enable alternative log ins that are used during second year. If you need to clear: 1) double click your HARDRIVE icon 2) search KEYCHAIN KEYCHAIN A list of Keychain items will appear: >>>>>LOG IN >>>>>PASSWORDS Locate DESIGN and DELETE. >return to SERVER LOGIN 2<

7 SERVER LOGIN The Server Once verified, the server window will launch. Only your permitted area will appear. PUBLICATIONS_CHRONICLE_ADVERTISING is the route to find the Sales folders for each issue. Inside each folder each ad type is sorted SERVER LOG IN 1) SPEC 2) NEW BUILD 3) REPEAT WITH CHANGE 4) REPEAT WITHOUT CHANGE 5) SUPPLED in this order of appearance.

8 eforms (for production) Two specific forms required to be input are the Creative Request as well as the Issue Runsheet. Both forms are electronic in nature with TAB to TAB fields to enter. Their file type is PDF. eforms These forms require Adobe Acrobat Pro to establish saving procedures as well as full printing / reading capabilites (if required). By default, the Mac operating system associates the PDF file type with their reader called Preview. Associating PDF files for Acrobat Pro is required..

9 INTRO FINDER PREFS SERVER LOGIN KEYCHAIN e FORMS FILE ASSOCIATION PRINTING TABLOID FILE ASSOCIATION... 1 As discussed, Mac operating system associates PDF files to the reader called Preview. PDF files that require specific Adobe Acrobat Pro functionality require they be launched in that software. There are two ways to launch these files. FILE ASSOCIATION 1) Launch Acrobat Pro application and use File Menu_Open and route to desired file. 2) Double clicking file icon this will launch the desired file in the associated software. This method requires setting its preference.

10 FILE ASSOCIATION... 2 To associate PDF files to Adobe Acrobat Pro (or any file type to any software) highlight the file icon by only selecting it (not launching it.) 1) FINDER PROCEDURE: With the file icon selected Finder_FILE MENU_Open With FILE ASSOCIATION A list of applications will appear. If the software you wish to associate with a file type is not listed select OTHER and route to the application desired. Check off - Always Open With

11 FILE ASSOCIATION... 3 To associate PDF files to Adobe Acrobat Pro (or any file type to any software) highlight the file icon by only selecting it (not launching it.) 2) SHORTCUT PROCEDURE: With the file icon selected (not launching it.) COMMAND + i... Get Info FILE ASSOCIATION A sidebar of information regarding the file will launch. Locate the software to which to associate. Again, you may need to search OTHER to find desired application. Check off - Always Open With >Get Info also available - Finder_FILE MENU<

13 INTRO FINDER PREFS SERVER LOGIN KEYCHAIN e FORMS FILE ASSOCIATION PRINTING TABLOID TABLOID PRINTING... 1 Throughout your time on campus you may be required to print in various output sizes; tabloid being one of them. letter size x 11 There are only a few select printers that are equipped to print in this format on campus. TABLOID PRINTING Installing the L220 printer (as instructed) allows for direct to printer printing as well as installing the PROPER POSTSCRIPT DRIVER to allow selection of this paper size. GENERIC = generic. tabloid - 11 x 17 There is nothing generic regarding the printer in the Advertising Lab - L220. From Adobe Acrobat Pro, follow the visual depiction on the following page.

14 TABLOID PRINTING ) File Menu_print will launch this window. -ACTUAL SIZE- 2) Page Setup will launch this dialogue box. -PAPER SIZE- 2) Select desired output paper size. -TABLOID- TABLOID PRINTING 4) Ensure tabloid is selected. -CLICK OK- 4) The preview should now be FULL IMAGE -CLICK PRINT-

15 PARTICIPATION... For participation (included in your participation mark) please complete the following. a) Prepare a Runsheet as sampled. Include the fields - Issue; Name; Spec; New; Repeat C; Repeat NC; Supplied b) Save your Runsheet with this naming convention: LASTNAME.pdf... UPPERCASE PARTICIPATION c) Print your Runsheet on tabloid paper - 11 x 17 d) Store your saved Runsheet in the Chronicle Server Area. >Sales 17<
