1 Splash G630 Service Pack 5 Release Notes Service Pack Contents Revised 10/9/02 The Splash G630 Service Pack 5 contains fixes for some problems with the G630 software. It includes all of the fixes from Service Packs 1, 2, 3, and 4 as well as various individual patches and supercedes Service Packs 1, 2, 3, and 4 and the individual patches. New Bugs Fixed Certain Dropped PDFs Crash Server Certain dropped PDF files would generate a Type 2 error and crash the Splash Server. Those PDFs now process correctly. Hot Folders List Won t Scroll The list of Hot Folders would not scroll when more than 10 hot folders were created. ColorCal Expert Mode Crashes ColorCal Expert Mode crashed ColorCal if the SWOP profile was set to an old-style(1-d) CMYK profile in Color Profiles dialog of the Splash Server. Illustrator Separations Fail to Process Correctly Files from Illustrator which contained spot colors would produce bad output when printed with Separations selected. Illustrator separations now process correctly if the Automatic Single Page separations job option is selected. If Automatic is selected, the job will print one sheet for each separation. 2 Corel Separations Fail to Process Correctly Files from Corel would produce bad output when printed with Separations selected. These files now process correctly with the Automatic separations option selected. Files with Embedded Illustrator 9 EPS s Generate Postscript Errors Files with Illustrator 9 EPS files embedded in them would generate Postscript errors when processed. These files now process correctly. Some files with very large embedded EPS files may generate a VMerror when printed with separations on, in which case it is necessary to increase the memory partition of the server to process the files correctly. Epson Support Bundled Support for Epson scanners is included in the versions of ColorCal and CopyCal installed with this service pack. The first time calibration runs after installing the service pack, ColorCal will prompt you to select which type of Epson scanner you have. ColorCal remembers the selection for future calibrations. Selecting the proper scanner type ensures receiving the best possible color quality. If you make a mistake in selecting the scanner type, delete the file ScannerType in the Splash Calibration Folder in the Splash Utilities Folder, then calibrate again. ColorCal will again prompt you to select the scanner type. NOTE: When calibrating with an Epson scanner, there can be as much as a 30 second delay after the Scan button is pressed before the scan begins. DCS 2.0 Files with Large Headers Error DCS 2.0 files with large headers would fail to process correctly. Imposition Updates Fixes for various imposition problems are included. Bugs Fixed in Previous Service Packs Secure Access Exempt Dropped Jobs Settings Doesn t Work The Secure Access setting Exempt Drop Folder Jobs had no effect and all jobs submitted via the Drop Folder or a Hot Folder failed if Secure Access was enabled. Files placed in the Drop Folder or Hot Folders now correctly process if the Exempt Dropped Folder Jobs setting is enabled. Set Builder Jobs Error If Document Name Is Too Long If the names for one or more of the component jobs in a Set Builder job were greater than 32 characters, the Set Builder job would error when placed in the Active queue. Set Builder jobs now process and print correctly regardless of the length of the names of the component jobs. Splash G630 Service Pack 5 Release Notes Page 2 of 8

3 2-up Imposition From Internal Tray Fails to Print Jobs with the combination of 2-up imposition and tray selection for tray 1-4 or tray 6 would fail to print. The printer would display an error message asking you to change the paper size in the selected tray. Jobs sent using Automatic tray selection or Tray 5 would print properly. 2-up imposition jobs now print properly regardless of tray selection. Unable to Change Password for Server Login in non-english Versions of Splash Server The change password function in the French, German, Italian, Spanish, and Brazilian Portuguese versions of the Splash Server did not. Two of the text entry fields could not be edited. Changing the password now works correctly in all languages. Some Imposition Documents Generate Unable to Retrieve File List Data Error Documents printed from Windows 98/ME clients using Adobe PS with the Saddle Stitch, Perfect Bound, or Step and Repeat options selected would error with the message Unable to Retrieve File List Data. These documents now impose and print correctly. Tray 5 Duplex Outputs Wrong Colors On some jobs when printing manual duplex from Tray 5, the colors on side 2 of the duplex sheet would not match the colors on side 1. Now the colors on side 2 match the colors on side 1 as closely as is possible through the printer. Some Images Print Black with Dynamic Image Enhancement Enabled Some embedded images included in dropped PDF files printed completely black when the Dynamic Image Enhancement job option was enabled. These images now print correctly with Dynamic Image Enhancement enabled. Editing User Text on Graphics pane of Job Defaults Dialog Crashes Server Editing the User Text field on the Graphics pane of the Job Defaults dialog would crash the Splash Server. Editing this field no longer crashes the server and the default is correctly applied to dropped graphics files. Spot Color Name Not Shown on Test Page Only the L*a*b* values for the spot color were shown on the Spot Color Test Page, not the name of the spot color. The name of the spot color is now shown on the test page in addition to the L*a*b* values. Duplex Alignment Offsets Applied to Simplex Jobs with Saved Rasters Duplex alignments were erroneously applied to all jobs with saved rasters even if the jobs were not duplexed. Duplex offsets are no longer applied to simplex jobs with saved rasters. Splash G630 Service Pack 5 Release Notes Page 3 of 8

4 Postscript Internal Error When Printing Illustrator 9 EPS Files When printing some jobs with embedded Illustrator 9 EPS files, the Splash Server would generate a Postscript Internal error. These jobs now process properly. Improper Imageable Area With Older Printer Firmware When connected to printers loaded with firmware prior to version 11.x, the Splash Server would produce output with the wrong imageable area for 12x18 and SRA3 paper. The output is now centered and has the correct imageable area. NOTE 1: The printer must be on when the Splash Server starts up in order for the imageable area to center properly. If the output for 12x18 and SRA3 is shifted on the page, quit the Splash Server and relaunch it. NOTE 2: When using the Splash Server with a printer with firmware prior to version 11.x, it is not possible to achieve the imageable area specified in the G630 PPD, so some clipping may occur at the server. Short Edge Binding Duplex Alignment Does Not Work Properly Duplex alignment offsets were not applied properly when a job was printed on the same size page as the duplex alignment target, but with a different binding edge. For example, when printing the duplex alignment target on Tabloid paper using long edge binding then printing a Tabloid page with short edge binding required that the duplex alignment offsets be manually negated in the Duplex Alignment dialog. The Splash Server now handles changing the binding edge automatically. A Binding Edge selection has been added to the duplex alignment dialog. NOTE: The Splash Server supports only a single set of duplex offsets for all trays. To switch offsets for trays, it is necessary to either re-run the duplex alignment procedure for the desired tray or to enter the correct offsets for the desired tray, then select the Update button. The Update button can be used if the alignment procedure was previously run for the desired tray. If using the Update button without running the alignment procedure, you must select both the tray and the binding edge that were selected when the alignment procedure for that tray was originally run for the desired tray in order to ensure proper results. Don t Override RGB and CMYK Profiles Preference Does Not Work On some files, disabling the Don t Override RGB Profiles and Don t Override CMYK Profiles server preferences would have no effect even though the preferences should have affected the output for the files. The preferences are now properly applied. Spot Color Patterns Generate Error Attempting to use patterns substituted for spot colors would error for some jobs. 5 DADF Not Displayed On Startup Page The presence or absence of a copier DADF was not displayed on the startup page. The DADF is now properly detected and displayed. Windows EPS Files with Previews Error EPS files with saved previews generated on Windows systems would error during processing. These files now process properly as EPS files. DCS 2.0 Files with Previews Errors DCS 2.0 files with saved previews would error during processing. These files now process properly. Can t Use Hot Folders for TIFF-IT Files The output folder for converted TIFF-IT folders was fixed to the Drop Folder, which made it impossible to create a Hot Folder for TIFF-IT files. The output folder for TIFF-IT files is now selected in the Splash TIFF-IT Converter preferences. To use a Hot Folder for TIFF-IT files, create the Hot Folder for TIFF-IT using the Splash Server, launch the Splash TIFF-IT Converter, select preferences, then use the Select Output Folder option to select the TIFF-IT Hot Folder. Place TIFF-IT files in the TIFF-IT Input Folder as before. Wrong Error Message for Wrong Number of Plates When printing with application specific separations selected, the server would generate an error message stating Driver reported an error if it detected that the job had the wrong number of plates. The server now generates the correct error message for the job. Installation Notes Compatibility with EPSON scanners If ColorCal is using an EPSON scanner to perform calibration, you need to run the ColorCal Update installer BEFORE installing this service pack. If you do not run the ColorCal Update installer first, the service pack will install a version of ColorCal that does not drive the Epson scanner and will error when you attempt to scan. To correct the error, if it occurs, install the ColorCal Update, then reinstall Service Pack 5. Problems with Special Instructions Very Thin Lines Printed with Tints Fail to Print Correctly Very thin lines, <.15 in width, printed with tints < 100% would print in short, choppy segments. 6 NOTE: This patch should only be used when printing jobs which exhibit the very thin lines problem as color reproduction can be affected when using this patch. Instructions for Installation 1. Install the Service Pack as directed below. 2. Quit the Splash server and ColorCal. 3. Open the Thin Lines Fix in the Splash Extras folder and copy the file lsc.mot to the Splash Folder. 4. Launch the Splash Server. 5. Launch ColorCal and calibrate. This is recommended, but not required. 6. Run the affected job(s). NOTE: it may be necessary to modify the color profile used for CMYK color correction to get closer to the expected output color. You may wish to create a custom profile for this purpose. Instructions for Removal 1. Quit the Splash server and ColorCal. 2. Drag the lsc.mot file from the Splash folder to Trash. 3. Launch the Splash Server. 4. Launch ColorCal and calibrate. If you have not calibrated since starting to use the patch, you do not need to calibrate. Printing with Round Dots By default, the Splash Server prints with one type of dot from the printer. To output round dots instead of the default dot the Splash Server uses, do the following: Instructions for Installation 1. Install the Service Pack as directed below. 2. In the "Utilities folder on the hard drive or user CD, open the "StuffIt Expander 6.0" folder and double click on "StuffIt Expander". 4. In the "File" menu, select "Expand" and then choose the " Splash G630 Service Pack 5.sit". Stuffit will create the file " Splash G630 Patch 5" in the same folder on your hard drive. 5. Double Click on the "Splash G630 Patch 5" installer icon 6. Select the appropriate hard drive that your server resides on and click on "Install". 7. Restart the Macintosh. 8. Launch the Splash server. 9. The product registration dialog box will appear. Note that the SMT serial number is no longer required. Click "OK" to continue launching the Splash Server. Note: This installer will auto-replace the "Splash Server" application and several other files. If you select these files and click on 'Command - I' or Get Info from your Apple file menu, the version numbers on these files will now be These steps must be performed again following any re-installation of the Splash G630 Software.
