1 Setting up VT Wireless connection Mac OSX 1. Click on the wireless icon in the upper right hand cornet of the status menu and select CONNECTtoVT- Wireless from the available wireless networks. 2. Open any web browser and you will be taken to the Virginia Tech Wireless Access web page. If the wireless access website doesn t load, navigate to any non-vt website and you will automatically be taken to the wireless access website. In the section labeled Current Students, Faculty, and Staff, check the box next to I am registered for wireless service. Click the Connect button.

2 3. On the next screen check the box to accept the terms of the Virginia Tech Acceptable Use Policy, then click on the Start button. 4. The XpressConnect wireless setup wizard will automatically launch, if it does not click on the manual download page link to download the setup wizard. 5. Before clicking on the Continue button make sure you have a network password. If you don t have a network password or you have forgotten it click on the Network Password setup link.

3 6. When prompted enter your Virginia Tech Personal Identifier (PID) and Network Password in the correct fields, then click on the Continue button. 7. The XpressConnect software will begin configuring your computer. During the configuration process you may be prompted by security notifications. Enter your computer username and password to allow the XpressConnect software to configure your computer.

4 8. If the setup process was successful, you will see the screen pictured above. If you were unsuccessful, see the trouble-shooting section of this guide and try the set-up process again. Troubleshooting If you are having problems setting up wireless access, try some of the steps below. Students Make sure you are entering the right Virginia Tech PID and Network Password during the setup process. Do not use your PID password. Passwords are also case sensitive. Check your registration/account status You must be a current student and have no holds on your account. If either apply, you will not be able to connect to the wireless network. Check with the University s Bursar office on how to remove the hold on your account: If you have just created or updated your network password, it can take between 5 to 30 minutes to take effect. Once some time has passed try the XpressConnect setup again. Faculty/Staff Make sure you are entering the right Virginia Tech PID and Network Password during the setup process. Check to see if you have a wireless account Wireless access is not automatically given to faculty and staff, it must be paid for using your departments funds. Contact your department s program coordinator if you would like access to the wireless network. If you have just created or updated your network password, it can take between 5 to 30 minutes to take effect. Once some time has passed try the XpressConnect setup again. 5 Delete old VT-Wireless certificates If you have old VT-Wireless certificates installed on your computer it can interfere with the XpressConnect setup. Try removing old wireless certificates and try the XpressConnect setup again. Below are instructions on how to remove old wireless certificates. 1. Open Finder and navigate to Applications then Utilities. 2. In the Utilities folder locate Keychain Access and open the program. 3. Once opened look in the first column on the left side and select All Items in the Category section. 4. Above Category section there is another section labeled Keychains. In the Keychain section go through each of the entries starting with login and look for any certificate labeled Virginia Tech, VT-Wireless, or contains your PID in the right column. 5. When you locate a certificate with the matching criteria as explained in step 4, press and hold the control button on your keyboard and click on the certificate. A menu will open as shown in the picture to the left, giving you a few options. Select Delete Certificate Name from the options given. Do this for all certificates matching the criteria in step 4 until all of them have been removed. 6. Retry XpressConnect Setup.
