An operating system or OS is a special software that manages the general operations of a computer system. 2. Icons are small labelled pictures that appear on the desktop. 6 4. The Start button is present at the bottom left of the screen on the taskbar. It is used to start any program. Clicking on the Start button will display a menu. 5. The steps to change the wallpaper are: Click anywhere on the desktop that is not an icon, but click once with your right-hand mouse button. A menu appears, select the Properties option. A dialog box appears. This is the Display Properties dialog box. There are tab strips for Themes, Desktop, Screensaver, Appearance and Settings, click on the Background tab strip and the dialog box will change. There is a list of wallpapers to use. Click on one and we get a preview of what it will look like. Scroll down to see more wallpaper. If satisfied, click the OK button to set wallpaper. This is the main software of the computer and the desktop screen appears. 7. System software is the main part of the program which controls the working of a computer system. It is a program which acts as an interface between the user and the hardware. It allows a computer to identify devices attached to it, memory available, etc. Application software is a set of one or more programs, designed to solve a specific problem, or do a specific task. 8. 21 want to change. The Free-form selection tool is used to select any irregularly shaped part of the picture. We can even drag the selected portion and place it on another location. 10. The top pointed end of the turtle is called its head. The wide base at the bottom is called its tail. The turtle moves on the screen according to the commands typed in the Input box of the commander window. Wherever the turtle moves, it leaves a tail (draws a line) behind. It is important to know that when we open the MSW LOGO, we see that the turtle is in the centre of graphic screen. This is called the Home Position of the turtle. 2. When we open the MSW Logo, we see that the turtle is in the centre of graphic screen. This is called the Home Position of the turtle. Home command gets the turtle back to its HOME, the centre of the screen, without rubbing off any part of the drawing. 3. Tux Paint provides an easy method to save work using the Save tool. When pressed, the Backspace key erases the text typed to the left of the cursor. Delete key to remove our mistakes. This key also acts like an eraser. It removes mistakes from the right. 10. CLEARSCREEN command is an eraser. It erases all the work we have done. It is very useful when we want to start a new drawing. 23 get erased. The short form for CLEARSCREEN is CS. CLEAR TEXT command helps to clear the text in the commander part of the window. It is different from Clear Screen (CS) command as CS clears the Graphic Screen and CT clears the Text or command area. We can use both CLEARSCREEN and CLEAR TEXT commands by typing CSCT.
