1 ProDoc Tech Tip Downloading and The following instructions will show you step-by-step how to download and install the student version of ProDoc. These instructions were written for the Microsoft Internet Explorer browser. You will need to make allowances for different naming conventions if you use a different browser to download the installation file. The file name will change every semester and depends on the state for which you are downloading and installing. So, use the images on these instructions as guides only but refer to the Instruction Sheet for your actual file names. If you experience any error messages during the installation process, you will find the reason for it and the solution for the most common issues that are experienced at Type or copy into your browser URL window the address provided to you for the ProDoc installation file. Remember that the actual language of the link will be different from the example shown in this guide. Figure 2 - Select Where to Save the File according to the speed of your broadband connection and the state for which you are downloading the file. Assume, however, that it will take at least minutes. When finished, you will see the Download Complete window (Figure 3). This is confirmed by Figure 3, A. You will see the name of the file to be downloaded, Figure 1, A. In most cases, select the Save option, Figure 1, B. You will next see the Save As window, Figure 2. The default location is your computer Desktop, Figure 2, A. If you have no reason to change the default location, confirm the file name (Figure 2, B) and click Save, (Figure 2, C). However, if you are familiar with Microsoft Windows Operating System file navigation system, you may choose to create a Download directory in My Documents and save it to that location, for example. 2 continued from page 1 If your browser is set to not display the Download complete window, you will skip Figure 3 and be taken directly to Figure 4. Click the Open button, Figure 3, B. The downloaded installation file is in a zipped format to reduce its size and reduce the time needed to download it. It must now be unzipped in order for you to install it. If your computer operating system is Microsoft Windows XP, or newer, you will now see a window like Figure 4. Choose the Extract All Files option, Figure 4. Note: If you do not see a window similar to Figure 4, your computer operating system is probably Microsoft Windows 2000, the minimum required, or an even earlier version, which is not supported. If you have a Microsoft Windows 2000 operating system, you will need to download and install a decompression software product such as WinZip. directory different from your Desktop, you might wish to select that same directory for this step. If you have a different decompression software program installed on your computer, the window may look different but select the same options. Click Next, Figure 6, B. When the decompression process is complete you will be presented with the Extraction Complete window, Figure 7. Click the Show extracted files option, Figure 7, A. Click the Next button, Figure 7, B. Figure 7 - Extraction Complete Figure 5 - Begin Extraction Process The next step of the extraction process is to select the destination in which the decompressed files are to be saved, Figure 6, A. We suggest that in most cases you use the default location. However, if you saved the downloaded file to a You are now presented with the File and Folder Tasks option for the directory in which all of the decompressed ProDoc installation files have been saved, Figure 8. Double-click the Setup32.EXE file as shown on Figure 8. Ignore the Setup32.EXE manifest file. 2 continued on page 3

Figure 11 - Enter the Key Code The State Bar license presented to you in Figure 12 will vary by state. Select the Accept option (Figure 12, A) and then click the Next button (Figure 12, B). Figure 9 - Select to Run the Installation Process On the ProDoc Install window (Figure 10), select Next. Figure 12 - Accept the State Bar License (if applicable) Select the Accept option (Figure 13, A) on the Btrieve for ProDoc Install window (Figure 13). Click the Next button (Figure 13, B). Figure 10 - Click Next The Enter Key Code window presents itself (Figure 11). Refer to the Key Code provided to you on the ProDoc Download and Installation Instructions from or through your course instructor and enter it in the appropriate fields. 4 continued from page 3 The Select Products window (Figure 14) displays all the products that will be available to you after the installation is complete. You may deselect any programs of the products you do not want to have installed. However, you may use the Browse feature (Figure 16, B) to select another location. Click Next, Figure 16, C. Figure 16 - Accept the Default Directory for SOS Figure 14 - Accept all of the Default Products Listed At the Choose Directory window (Figure 15), you are asked to choose a location for the installation of your ProDoc files. In most cases this should be on your computer hard drive and you should simply accept the default (Figure 15, A). However, you may use the Browse feature (Figure 15, B) to select another location. Click Next, Figure 15, C. At the Features window (Figure 17), unless you have a compelling reason to do otherwise, leave the Timeslips installation option deselected, Figure 17, A. Click Next, Figure 17, B. Figure 17 - Do Not Select for the Timeslips Connection Figure 15 - Accept the Default Directory for ProDoc IF you did not deselect SOS on the Select Products window (Figure 14), you are now presented with the Choose SOS Directory window (Figure 16). Here you are asked to choose a location for the installation of your SOS files. As is the case for the ProDoc files, you should typically accept the default, Figure 16, A. The Caution window (Figure 18) will only display when you are installing ProDoc over an existing ProDoc installation. Consequently, you probably will not see it. However, you will see this window if you installed ProDoc for a previous semester. This option is applicable when you have modified ProDoc Master Forms. You may learn about the ProDoc Modify Master Forms feature in your class but it probably does not apply in your situation. So, if the Caution window is presented to you, simply click the Next button. 4 continued on page 5

Figure 19 - Installation Complete Except for Restart Click the Finish button to conclude the process. However, you must restart your computer in order to be able to use ProDoc. 5
