1 How To Guide for Using Maryland Incentive Zone Interactive Map Purpose This How To guide is intended to: Determine if addresses are located within a Sustainable Community or other incentive zone (pg. 1) Help identify Sustainable Community and Maryland Main Street boundaries (pg. 3) Verify property/parcel ownership information according to State Department of Assessment and Taxation (SDAT) records (pg. 3) Label and print maps in jpeg or pdf format (pg. 4) A note on Internet Browsers Please be sure to use one of the following web browsers when using this mapping tool: Internet Explorer version 9 or later, Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox. **This online mapping tool is incompatible with older versions of Internet Explorer.** Determining if an Address is in an Incentive Zone: Using the Address Search Feature If you would like to verify if a particular address is in an incentive zone, click on the Incentive Zone Look Up button. To search by address: 1) Click on the Incentive Zones Lookup button. 2) Type in the street address into the Input Enter Address * box. Legend Layer List 3) Click Execute. (The map will automatically zoom to the address selected.) 1 4) After clicking Execute, a Results tab will appear as will a point on the map.

2 5) The results tab will list all of the incentive zones associated with the address that was searched. 6) Reminder, click on the legend button to view the meaning of the symbology on the map. (Only the layers that are turned on in the layer list will be displayed in the legend.) 7) And, click on the layers list to turn on and off layers on the map. Using Layers* 1) Click on the Layer List icon. (This will display all the available layers for this map.) 2) Click the check box next to each Layer option. (Check mark indicates the Layer is on while no check mark indicates the Layer is off and will therefore not be displayed on the map.) * The Layers available on this map provide information beyond the Sustainable Communities boundaries. For example, other Layers on this map include Maryland Main Street Areas, Arts and Entertainment Districts and BRAC Zones. These layers provide information and the geographic boundaries of other programs when they are turned on (indicated by a check mark in the box to the left of the layer). Also included are County Boundary, Parcel Boundaries, and Priority Funding Area Layers. All of the layers may be turned on by checking the box to the left of the layer. Note on searching addresses: The Search By Address search bar, in the top left corner of the map display, is another option to find a specific location, but not the Incentives Zones for that address. So, to determine if an exact address is within an Incentive Zone, use the Input Enter Address box where the Result tab will display the incentives zones for the exact location. 2

3 Identifying Sustainable Communities and Other Incentive Zones Each incentive zone is identified on the map by a symbol/color. To see all of the incentive zones on the map, click on the layer list button. Find Sustainable Community and Maryland Main Street Boundaries To see the boundaries by Sustainable Community or Main Street, use the Query Features button. To use the Query Features : 1) Click on the Query Features icon. 2) Sustainable Communities can be searched for by name or County. Main Streets and Maple Streets can be searched by name only. Click on your preferred search method. 3) Then, make your selection using the drop down menu, then click Apply. The map will zoom to your selection. Verify property/parcel ownership 1) If you need to verify the ownership of a property/parcel, you can easily access property data from the SDAT (State Department of Assessment and Taxation). After searching for a property by address, the map will zoom in to the property address. After the map zooms-in, you should be able to see the parcel boundaries on the map. Place the mouse pointer on top of the address dot and left click. The parcel boundary will be highlighted 3

4 in blue and a text box will appear with a link to the SDAT URL. Click on this hyperlink to be directed the SDAT website.* *If the SDAT web link does not appear in the popup box, click on the arrow in the right corner of the popup box until the SDAT web link appears. Labeling and Printing Maps 1) Click on the Print icon. 2) Enter a Map Title. 3) Select a Layout. 4) Select a Format. 5) Click Print button. Draw Feature* 1) Click on the Draw icon. 2) Select feature: Point, Line, Polyline, Freehand Polyline, Triangle, Extent, Circle, Ellipse, Polygon, Freehand Polygon, Text. *To undo any features, scroll to the bottom of the Draw box and click Undo. 4

5 For Text: 1) Click on the Text icon. 2) Type text into Text box. (A preview of the text will appear.) 3) Choose a Font Color and Font Size. 4) Use the mouse to click on the map where you would like the text to appear.* *If the text does not appear on the map, check to make sure the Text icon is selected. The Text icon will appear with a grey background compared to the other Draw Feature icons. For Point: 1) Click on the Point icon. 2) Select an icon. (A preview of the point will appear.) For more options, scroll down in the point option box or select from the drop down menu to the right of the Basic bar in the point option box.) 3) Choose a Symbol Size. 4) Use the mouse to click on the map where you would like the text to appear.* *If the symbol does not appear on the map, check to make sure the Point icon is selected. The Point icon will appear with a grey background compared to the other Draw Feature icons. 5
