1. Introduction: The Project Settings Hub 4 The Multi-Layer Project Settings hub is where the user has access to all the configurations for the framing project regarding secondary framing. In the Project Settings command under the Settings menu, the user will find the options Wall Type map, Structural Templates, Secondary Templates, Opening Types, Sheathing Templates and Member Tags. In these windows, the settings of the wall s framing layers can be configured or modified.

1.1 Wall Type Map 5 In the Wall Type Map menu is where the user binds a template to a layer of the wall type. You can use this menu to map Revit wall types to MWF templates present in the project. Each layer of the wall can have its own template. You can attach Structural Templates (MWF Pro templates), Secondary Templates or Sheathing Template. Using the Quick Create under the Multi-Layer Panel will use this template mapping to frame the walls. 1.2 Structural Templates The Structural Templates menu contains templates created with MWF Pro. The properties of these templates are aimed for bearing framing conditions and with a wide range of options. 1.1 Secondary Template Create a Secondary Template by making a duplicate of one of the Default that comes installed in the system. The Default templates starts as empty placeholder used to start your project. All the families for the secondary templates are to be already loaded into the project, of category type: Structural Framing. Each template can also have a static preview photo uploaded if needed.

Click on Settings Project Settings Secondary Templates 6 You can now select one of the templates and click Copy. Give the template a new name:

7 Click the command Modify to start creating the settings of that template. This will bring up the Layer Properties. At first glance, the window appears empty. Here you can drag and drop the available Features into the Current Layer Config pane to create the configuration you want in this template. For example, to add Vertical members and Framing around openings:

8 Then you can configure the settings for each feature. In this example, for Openings we will use: Windows: Kings Only Marker Doors : Kings Only Marker Openings: Do not Frame Marker.

9 For the Verticals option, we will use Rotated 1x3s, aligned to the vertical studs, end studs, cripples and join stud of the structural layer, and the member s cutbacks to be long. Once the current Layer setup of Features has been complete, click the OK at the bottom of the dialogue box to save the template. Now we can create a new template for secondary frame by copying the 1x3 Vertical Battens and creating a 3x3 Frame Style. Once the template is created, hit the Modify button to open the Layer Properties of the 3x3 Frame template:

10 Now, drag and drop the remainder of features and modify the families of each feature to be 3x3:

1.2 Sheathing Templates 11 Sheathing Templates are created from the sheathing tools under the ProWall panels. Here you can access the templates and apply them to your wall template maps. In order to modify them, you need to access the Sheathing commands under ProWall. 1.3 Member Tags By default, MWF has a series of codes for labeling each member. You can override this and save it as a template and apply to your secondary layers.

12 2. Create a Template Map Create a template map through the Project Settings Wall Type Map icon. Navigate through the wall types to find which walls in the project you want to add a template too.

13 Once you have selected your wall, add the templates to the proper layer. You can also write annotations on the side to help describe each layer: By clicking the template button <None> you can select the template you want to add. For structural templates, make sure you are under the Structural category. These templates are created with MWF Pro, and must be saved under the <Project > folder. For more help and tutorials on how to create MWFPro Templates, view the online videos or help and tutorial provided. Once you picked the proper Structural Template, hit Select on the right side of the dialog box. This will add this template to the layer you picked.

14 Then proceed to adding the other framing templates: Notice that the frame type indicates which module (MwfPro, Secondary or Sheathing) the template belongs too. To remove a template, hit the template on the layer and then select <None>. Once you are finished with this wall, navigate to the next wall and add the templates needed:

15 In the Project Settings menu, Wall Type Map area, you can configure more than one template map by clicking the + button next to the Current Map dropdown menu. For example, template map for different levels in a project. This allows the user to keep the same Revit wall types, just with difference framing templates.

3. Using the Quick Create Command 16 Quick Create works in direct relationship with the template map. It is good practice to have the MWF Joins already placed in the panel before running Quick Create in order to save regeneration time. For more information on how to place MWF Pro Joins, view MWF Pro Help and Tutorials or Videos available online. To run Quick Create with MultiLayer, select the walls in the project you would like to frame and then the command Quick Create under the Multi- Layer Panel. Note that the quick create command may be under the Operations menu depending on what version of MWF you are running. This will use the template map to frame the wall with the appropriate template.

4. Changing Templates within a wall and Adding Secondary Templates 17 In order to change a template within a MultiLayer wall, click the wall and select the command Wall Properties under the Operations menu. This will bring up each layer of the Wall with the template associated to the layer. In this window you can add additional templates to the wall or change an existing template. Here for example I will change the template from a 3x3 frame, to the 3x3 2 spacing. Pick the template you want to change, and then hit Select, and then OK in the Wall properties. Only the template changed in the wall will be regenerated after hitting ok in wall properties. If you hit Regenerate all, all the layers in this will be regenerated.

5. Difference Between Template Instance and Types (Lock) 18 In the wall properties, you will notice there is a lock option. When a template is locked, it acts as a type, meaning, if you modify the configurations of the template and save the changes, all layers locked to that template will change after regeneration. When the lock option is not checked, the active layer acts as an instance. It is still using the last active template, although it is no longer in relationship with it. If you change the template it was originally locked to, it will not affect the framing of this layer. By unchecking the Lock option you can also go modify that layers settings by hitting the Edit option. After hitting Edit, the layer properties will pop up where you can modify that layers instance. For this example, I changed the Spacing options to 1 0

Hit OK at the bottom Right of the dialog to save the changes, and then hit Ok in the Wall Properties again. Now only the Verticals feature has been changed, and regenerated in the wall properties 19 This is the way to modify the layer templates for odd balls panel that don t have the exact same settings as the Layer Template. 6. Adding Sheathing Layers Sheathing templates are created using MWF Pro module. For more instructions on how to create Sheathing templates, view online videos or MWF Help and Tutorials. You can add Sheathing template to each layer using Wall properties or through the Template map and quick Create. For this example I will add 8x10 Gyp Sheet to my wall properties. Be sure to select the Sheathing Category at the top of dialog to have access to ProWall Sheathing templates.

20 Select the template, and hit OK at the bottom Right of the wall properties. Be sure to set your view to View Parts to be able to see the sheathing Panels. In the project browser, make Parts visible: Through the template map, you can add your sheathing templates to each layer:

21 When the sheathing Layer is being used, the frame type for the layer is called: Sheathing Layer plugin: 7. Wall Joins Align to layer and Manual Extensions MultiLayer follows two rules for Joins. Either each layer extends to the Revit wall parts, or you can override this by using the Align Joins command. MWF Pro layer needs and MWF Join placed. For more info on how to place MWF Joins, watch videos online or access the help and tutorials today.

7.1 Joins and wall parts 22 By default, the secondary layers will extend to the Revit Wall Parts. As for the MWF Pro Structural Layers, they are following the MWF Wall Join: In combination, you can use the MWF Wall join for the MWFPro frame type, and Revit parts for the secondary. Take note that the parts aligns Ends studs for verticals, and the extensions for horizontals. You can modify the parts of the wall to have more control on the Join cutbacks. Create Wall Parts:

23 Show Parts on walls: Select the part of the wall you wish to modify and Enable Shape handles: Stretch the part of the wall where you want the framing to stop. After regeneration, the layers will align to Revit Wall parts: ->

You can also stretch parts in elevation, the secondary layers will follow this as well. 24 This allows a lot of flexibility for oddball wall joins or framing conditions. 7.2 Align Joins The Align Joins command will activate the option that allows all secondary layer to be stretched to match the same main wall as the MWF Join. The arrow of the MWF Join points to the priority wall. In this example the secondary walls are following the extensions of parts of the wall. To override this, select both walls and run the Align Join tool.

After regeneration, the secondary layers will follow the main wall. 25 This is saved in the Join Marker property: 8. Opening Types There are 5 different styles for Opening types in MultiLayer. Default, Kings only Framing, Boxed, Do not frame and Frame Through. Each type has a different style of framing. In order to use the opening types, start with the ones installed with the software, duplicate it and customize it to standard. You can create new by copy pasting originals through the Project Settings hub: Or you can access the opening types directly through the layer properties, Openings features:

Do not Frame The <Do not Frame Marker> function is to ignore the opening, but stop the members from intersecting the void. It does not have any functionality to add critical framing members, although you can set a tolerance if needed. 8.2 Frame Through The <Frame Through> Marker function is to completely ignore the opening altogether.

27 This marker type does not have a UI, as it cannot be modified. 8.3 Kings only Framing The Kings only framing type places kings on both the left and right side of the opening. This marker type you can change the orientation of the stud member, change the family type, override the family to read the same as the verticals in the Layer Properties, and member cutbacks.

Boxed The <Boxed> framing marker will place a perimeter of members around the opening. With this marker type you can define the Header, sills, verticals and cutbacks

Wood Default The <Wood Default> marker is a structural style framing marker.

30 There are options to control the Header and sill alignments, quantities of Kings, Jacks and cripples. As for the cutbacks, there are limited options. The available cutbacks you can choose depend on if jacks and additional cripples where enabled in the marker.

31 9. Text Mapping & Label Data 9.1 Panel & Member Id Each member of the panel has a label name which can be found under the member instance properties. Please note that the MWF Pro label tags will be copied to the new Label Id:

9.2 Master Container 32 The Master Container value is the number of the panel which contains all layers in each panel. This Id can be changed using the Renumber Panel tool. To see the Master Container panel number, select any member of a secondary layer and find this parameter under its general Revit Properties. 9.3 SSFT_Id This id is auto calculated for each layer. This is the id for the member s layer group it belongs too. Each Layer will have its own SSTF_Id. When creating Shop Drawings, if you want your BOM to be grouped by layer, make sure to input this field as a category. To see the SSFT_Id panel number, select any member of a secondary layer and find this parameter under its general Revit Properties. 9.4 Label & Tag The Label is unique for each member of that layer. The first letter describes the type of member, for example. C14, would describe the 14th Cripple. Or HD1 would describe the 1st Header Door. The Tag would describe only the prefix, such as C or HD. There is a default configuration for the tags which can be overridden per layer.

33 To see the Label of a panel, select any member of a secondary layer and find this parameter under its general Revit Properties. 9.5 Tag Map Each member has a set of tags. These tags can be accessed through the Project Hub Member Tags: Or through the Layer Properties: If you duplicate the map, you can set your own tag prefixes for each tag.

34 Once the map has been copied, the map is now editable to which ever Short Text needed. This map is saved for each layer:

35 Now that the layer is reading a new template map, the members have different tags and labels. 10. Edit Operations Edit operations are used to do oddball changes to the panel which can be saved during Regeneration. For example, moving a stud over 2. For Secondary Framing, we support Add Member, Delete Member, Extend Member, Move Member and Edits Wand. All the edits are saved under the layer properties.

10.1 Add Member 36 To add a member to your panel, hit the <Add member> command. In the status bar, it will prompt you to pick the member you want to add, select the member. Then it prompts you to pick another existing member of the panel, so that MWF can know which layer to add it too. Then select the tag you want for that member. Now the member will remain after regeneration and have the correct SSTF_Id, Label, and tag Move Member To move a member, run the <Move Member> command. Then select your member, and pick point to the new location Extend Member To extend a member, run the < Extend Member > Command. Then select the member you want to extend and input the start or end extension values:

Delete Member To delete a member, run the < Delete member> command. Then select the member you want to delete Edit Wand The Edit Wand was created so that you can do the modifications to your panel using Revit tools, then run the Edit Wand so that MWF can recognize the changes. For example I

38 extended a cripple, moved a king, and deleted a stud. At this phase there is nothing in the edit Ops list because the panel doesn t recognize the changes yet. Once your changes have been made, select your panel and run the <Edit Want command>. Now the changes have been saved in your panel Adding Secondary Panels to Existing MWF Panels If your project already has MWF Panels created, and you want to add secondary layers to it, you will need to run the Operations> Add Secondary command to convert the existing Pro Wall Panel into a multi-layer panel. Once the command has been run on the wall(s), you can then click on the wall and open up the Wall Properties through the Multi- Layer Panel, and add secondary templates to the layers needing. Once a panel has been converted, if you click on an MWF Stud, you will notice a new Master Container assembly with a new panel number for Multi-Layer Panels.

39 If you need to hide the MWFPro Label. Simply regenerate the MWFPro layer Panel using MultiLayer Regenerate command. 11. Exploring Secondary Layer Features In order to have a feature in a layer, the feature must be dragged and dropped into the Current Layer Configuration. For example, you can set to TopTracks, and Bottom Tracks, but no End Studs or Center Studs. Some features are dependent on other layer features. For example Blocking, when this feature is dragged into the current layer configuration, Verticals and End Studs will be included since the blocking feature depends on these as a reference. Each feature can have its own families, cutbacks, offsets and etc Blocking Blocking option allows you to place blocking between the studs in the secondary panel. This is option you can save in a secondary template. You can only place blocking if you have verticals and end studs selected in Current Layer Config option. The Blocking option dialog box allows you to select the type of family you will be using, rotation of the members, select the spacing and also you can stagger the members.

11.2 Bottom Tracks & Top Tracks 40 Bottom tracks option allows you to place a member on the bottom of the secondary panel. This option can save be in a secondary template. The Bottom Track option dialog box allows you to select the type of family you will be using, rotation of the members, a cutbacks option that option could be use when there is End Studs in the layer. Also have an Extension option and apply coping to the bottom track. The Top track option allows you to place a member on the top of the secondary panel. This option can be save be in a secondary template. The Top track option dialog box allows you to select the type of family you will be using, rotation of the members, a cutbacks option. That option could be use when there is End Studs in the layer. Also have an Extension option and apply coping to the Top track.

End Studs End Studs option allows you to place members at the start and end of the secondary panel. This option can save be in a secondary template. The End Stud option dialog box allows you to select the type of family you will be using, rotation of the members, a cutbacks option. Also have an Extension option and apply coping to the members.

11.4 Furring (Diagonals) 42 Furring option allows you furring along the face of the secondary panel. This is option you can save in a secondary template. The Furring option dialog box allows you to select the type of family you will be using, rotation of the members, select the spacing and also allows you place angle to the members Horizontals The Horizontals option allows you to place horizontals members in the secondary panel. This is option you can save in a secondary template. The Horizontal dialog box allows you to select the type of family you will be using, rotation of the members, select the spacing and also have a cutbacks option. There is an Extension option and can apply coping to the members.

Nailing Nailing option allows places nailing throughout the secondary layer. This option can also be saved in secondary template. Also our Weinmann CNC can read these nail patterns and will show up in WUP file.

Openings The Opening option is where you can select different types of opening conditions on how you can frame your openings in your Secondary template. This is option you can save in a secondary template.

11.8 Verticals 45 The Verticals option allows you to place verticals members in the secondary panel. This is option you can save in a secondary template. The Verticals option dialog box allows you to select the type of family you will be using, rotation of the members. It has a cutbacks option and there is an Extension option and can apply coping to the members. In the vertical option dialog box has two type of spacing. The first option is Regular spacing. This allows you pick the first offset and spacing after that. The second option is Follow MWF Pro structural members. 12. Regenerate Panel Options

The Regenerate Panel command has 3 different options: 46 Regenerate Selected Layers will only regenerate the layer in which a member is selected of that layer. Regenerate Structural and Secondary will regenerate the MWFPro Layers and all the secondary layers. Regenerate Secondary will regenerate all the secondary layers. 13. Delete Panels The Delete command will delete all the layers including the secondary layers of the Multi- Layer panel. 14. Create Shop Drawings and Options

47 The Shop Drawings commands allows you to automatically create viewports of the secondary layer of the panel. The shop drawing gives you an elevation view, bottom view, side view and a bill of material. You also need to create View Templates for the views and all members need a reported length for the bill of material to read Sheet View Sheet View allows the user to show the details on how the sheet will look like when you generate a MultiLayer shop drawing. You have an option for the sheet name, gaps in between the viewports and the distance between the title block to the views. You can also create own setting template by hitting the plus icon.these information are be saved in setting template and can be used on the future.

14.2 Bottom View 48 Bottom View allows the user to show the detail on how the bottom view will like it. An option that allows the user place dimensions and what type of dimensions. Also an option for View Range where you would like the view to cut the wall. Note the Side View takes its visibility/graphics from a Revit View template. These information are be saved in Settings and can be used in the future.

14.3 Elevation View 49 Elevation View allows the user to show the detail on how the elevation will like it: how the overall dimension are placed, if there are dimensions on the openings and if there are labels on members and openings. Note the Elevation View takes its visibility/graphics from a Revit View template. These information are be saved in setting template and can be used on the future.

14.4 Schedule View 50 The Schedule option allows the user select which field they would like to show in the bill of material. Option to select the text note type for the title, header and body of the text. Also alignment of the text and an option to have the field hidden. These information are be saved in setting template and can be used on the future.

14.5 Side View 51 Side View allows the user to show the detail of how it would look around an opening. You have option to select dimensions styles and also a view range for the offset and depth of the panel. Note the Side View takes its visibility/graphics from a Revit View Template. These information are be saved in setting template and can be used on the future.

14.6 Send Request 52 If the standard settings does not fit your company needs you can always send us a request file, if you need any extra dimensions styles, labeling styles and extra views and so on. In the request you would need to out in your information like company name, contact person, an address where we can reach for questions about your request.
