1 Secondary Report Card Entry Launching Gradebook PowerTeacher Gradebook is available by clicking the icon in the Navigation menu. Selecting Classes Classes are listed and can be Selected at the top left of the Gradebook window. Selecting the Reporting Period When entering report card data ensure that the correct reporting period is selected: M1 for midterm reports and S1 for final reports.
2 Manual Override of Grades Report card grades are automatically calculated from the gradebook but can be overridden by right clicking in the Final Grade column and choosing Show Score Inspector. The Score Inspector displays the current final grade value from the gradebook. To enter a different grade for the report card choose the Manual Override checkbox and enter a grade in the Percent and Grade boxes. A red alert will appear on the scoresheet once a manual override is applied to a student s grade.
3 Entering Comments To enter report card comments open the Score Inspector and choose the Comment tab. The comment entry box is displayed. Comments can be entered directly into the Comment box or copied and pasted from another source.
4 Once the comment box is complete click Close to dismiss the comment box or click an arrow to move on to another student. Comments can also be applied from the comment bank by double-clicking the chosen comment or selecting the comment and clicking Insert Selected. To limit the list of comment bank items that are displayed enter search terms in the Find window. Using the Category field as a guide for formatting a search may be useful. For example a list of level 4 math strength comments can be found by entering the following into the Find window: mat-strength-l4. Clicking the star that appears in the Favorites column will add those comments to the list that appears when My Comment Bank is selected from the drop down menu.
5 Learning Skills To enter learning skills choose the Final Grades button at the top. A column is displayed for each learning skill. To enter values for learning skills right click and select an item from the grades list. Values can also be entered directly by typing E,G,S or N in the cell. IEP and ESL Indicators ESL and IEP indicators are entered in the Final Grades view in the column titled ESL/ESL/IEP. Choose E to indicate ESL, I to indicate IEP, and EandI to indicate a student is identified as ESL and has an IEP.
6 Interview Requested The Interview Requested flag is set by right clicking and choosing Grades then Y. Setting Report Card Entry as Complete Once report card entry is complete for a class click the In Progress Button Place a check to indicate that Final Grades are complete and then click OK.
7 </a> Using Custom Comments Teachers can add their own custom comments to the comment bank. Creating Comments 1. From the Gradebook window click Tools and then choose Preferences 2. Select the Comment Bank tab and click Add at the bottom. 3. Enter values for Code and Category and then enter the comment in the box below.
8 4. Click OK to dismiss the comment entry box. 5. The comment will now appear in the comment list. Comments can be edited or deleted by clicking the buttons at the bottom. 6. Click OK to dismiss the Preferences box. Wildcards The following wildcards are available in PowerTeacher and can be added to comments: <First name> <Last name> <Preferred name> <he/she> <his/her> <him/her> <He/She> <His/Her> As an example: With considerable effectiveness, <First name> assesses ways in which animals have an impact on society and the environment, and ways in which humans have an impact upon animals and the places where they live. This is demonstrated by <his/her> work on the Endangered Species assignment.
9 Using Teacher Created Comments 1. Teachers can access their own bank of comments by choosing My Comments in the report card comment editor. Tip: Comments in the District Comment Bank can also be added to My Comment Bank by flagging them as Favorites by clicking on the star in the right column.
10 </a> Applying Comments to Multiple Students Comments can be applied to groups of students by using a filter 1. The Student Groups box appears in the left column of Gradebook. 2. Click the arrow beside Active to view the list of all students. 3. Click to select the first student you wish to include then hold the <Ctrl> button and click the other students.
11 4. Choose Filter Selected from the drop down menu. 5. The list of selected students appears in the Students area. 6. To apply a comment to the selected students, right click in the final grade column and choose Fill Scores. Note: The Fill Comments feature can have the effect of inadvertently copying over previously entered comments. Comments do NOT append to comments already in place; existing comments are overwritten. Please proceed carefully. 7. Add your chosen comment into the comment box.
12 8. From the Scores tab select to Replace All while being sure to have only the Comment field checked. Tip: using wildcard terms such as <First Name> can be helpful when applying comments to groups of students 9. Click OK
