1 SmartDGA Firmware and Viewer Software Update Applies To These instructions are applicable for SmartDGA systems currently using version 1.3 or higher. Contact LumaSense for support if currently at an older version (prior to 1.3) or if you are not able to confirm the firmware version. You can confirm the EZHub, bootloader, and SmartDGA instrument firmware versions using the Viewer software. A version history can be found in the appendix of this document. Purpose Updating DGA software and firmware can improve the DGA equipment performance and/or provide some additional features. Equipment Requirements USB memory stick and adapter provided by LumaSense SmartDGA Gauge, Guard, or Guide system (EZHub with DGA instrument) PC (Personal Computer) or LumaSmart icore The current DGA firmware and software files. LumaSense can provide you with access to a Box.com link for downloading the files. Contact LumaSense (support@lumasenseinc.com) for access permissions and instruction. Qualifications Installers should review the SmartDGA system and software manuals prior to performing the update, be familiar with EZHub connections, and possess general computer and software skills. 2 1. Update Firmware 1. For versions going from 1.3 to 1.4, save past measurement data. The data storage (memory) structure of the EZHub is changed as part of the 1.4 upgrade which erases historical data in the process. The data can be saved by performing Export Data using the Viewer software (Software manual section 5.1.5) or by obtaining the data file from the USB port of the EZHub. For versions going from to higher version, saving past measurement data is optional. The upgrade does not erase historical data. 2. For versions or higher, perform shutdown by locating the Shutdown button under Administrator Tools in DGA Viewer. See the SmartDGA Software Manual for additional instruction. For versions 1.3 to 1.4.1, manually power down the Leister using the Humidity Calibrator Tool. Refer to Technical Bulletin for instruction. 3. Power off the EZHub. 4. Disconnect any communication cables (Ethernet or RS485) connected to the EZHub. 5. Make sure that the SmartDGA instrument is connected to the EZHub. Gauge connects to the left side (LTC) Guard or Guide connect to the right side (TRF) 6. Insert the USB memory stick into a computer, scan for viruses and load the most current EZHub and SmartDGA instrument firmware. Do not load any other files on the USB memory stick! Note: Pull bottom part of SmartDGA memory stick to separate. 7. Eject the memory stick from the computer. 8. Insert the USB memory stick into the USB adapter with the USB symbol facing up. Attention: Failure to insert the USB adapter into the port in the correct orientation will damage the port. Insert the adapter into the EZHub with the USB symbol up towards the yellow band do not insert with the USB symbol facing down. 9. Power on the EZHub. The green light indicator should turn on in less than one minute Rev D Page 2 of 5 March 2017

3 10. The lights will then cycle yellow/blue/ red for up to 8 (typically 6) minutes before the green light indicator remains solid green. 11. Once the normal light indicator is solid green, wait an additional 15 seconds and then power off the EZHub. 12. Remove the USB memory stick and adapter from the EZHub. 13. Power on the EZHub. The green light indicator should turn on in less than one minute. 2. Update DGA Viewer Software 1. If an older version of DGA viewer is already installed on the computer or icore, uninstall it using Add/Remove programs found in Windows Control Panel. 2. Download the latest files from Box.com to a computer. If you are using DGA Viewer on a computer, proceed to step 3. If using an icore, follow these additional steps: a. Insert the USB memory stick into a computer, scan for viruses, and load the DGA viewer software files. b. Eject the memory stick from the computer. c. Insert the USB memory stick into the USB adapter with the USB symbol facing up and then insert into the icore USB port. 3. Double click on the DGA Viewer Setup file to start installation. 4. Follow the prompts to perform the DGA Viewer installation. Once installation is complete, a DGA Viewer icon will appear on the desktop (of the computer or icore). 3. Verify Firmware Version in DGA Viewer Software 1. Attach a communications cable (Ethernet or RS485) to the EZHub. 2. If the Leister was manually powered down (previous versions 1.3 to 1.4.1), manually step up the Leister using the Humidity Calibrator tool. Refer to Technical Bulletin for instruction. 3. Launch the DGA Viewer software by clicking on the desktop icon. 4. If you have not used the computer or icore with the DGA Viewer software with an EZHub and SmartDGA instrument, you will also need to perform the initial setup steps. These include setting communications settings and adding the EZHub and SmartDGA instrument. Reference the SmartDGA Software Manual for more information about this setup and using the DGA Viewer software. 5. If the Leister was manually powered down, navigate to Set Up > Administrator Tools > Stop Cycle Shutdown. Select the appropriate SmartDGA Instrument and click Shutdown. Wait for approximately 30 seconds for the Viewer to display the shutdown is complete and then power cycle the EZHub. Note: A system fault may appear due to the Leister being OFF temporarily. 4 6. Confirm that the DGA Viewer software is reporting the most current firmware versions (EZHub, EZHub Bootloader, and SmartDGA Instrument). In some cases, the fields for reporting the firmware versions may remain blank after new software setup. In this instance, close and reopen the DGA Viewer software and then confirm the firmware version. EZHub Firmware and Bootloader Firmware Version SmartDGA Instrument Firmware Version 4. Clear First 24 Hours of Data from EZHub After any updating from older 1.3 firmware versions only, the unit automatically makes a series of adjustments and the initial measurements are inaccurate. Remove these initial measurements from the EZHub data log by following the instructions in the software manual Rev D Page 4 of 5 March 2017
