Introduction TRC-780 Installation The TRC-780 is the controller to your Total Control System. Whether it s a home theater solution or whole house solution, the TRC-780 installed with the MRX-10 Advanced Network System Controller receives feedback from the MRX-10 using 2.4GHz technology. The system is also scalable and can be built to control multiple zones of source equipment as needed. The TRC-780 features a ROOMS button that facilitates room monitoring by compiling all of your programmed data for every room in the system, all without any additional configuration. In a multi-zone Total Control system, sources can be linked together from different zones using URC s groundbreaking room linking technology. Linked audio sources are sent via streams over the network to and from DMS-1200 or DMS-100 amplifiers. Whether you specify one TRC-780 or multiple TRC-780s depends on the total number of users per installation. Up to 32 TRC-780s can be used in any one system. Programming of the TRC-780 is performed using one simple application - URC Accelerator (see TRC-780 programming manual). Front/Back Views 121
Rooms Button The ROOMS button allows you to monitor the status of components and also enables room linking using the ROOMS module. Users can temporarily link rooms to listen to the same source or control volume or mute for multiple rooms simultaneously (when using DMS series amps). You can check out what the kids are watching in the bedroom, and even check the volume in adjacent rooms and adjust as necessary. The ROOMS module can be disabled if preferred. If disabled, pressing the ROOMS button will indicate that the ROOMS Module is currently off. Comfortable General Button Layout The TRC-780 was designed to incorporate all of the important button features of popular components within comfortable reach, eliminating stressful finger stretching. The central navigation five-way control pad for the TRC-780 is tailored specifically for an enhanced user experience and extreme comfort when navigating through guide and menu options for popular source equipment as well. The TRC-780 even features color coded programmable buttons above the number keys designed to simplify locating these significant commands associated with Cable box/sat receivers, DVR functionality and Blu-ray player menu options. They are independently programmable from each device you add to your TRC-780 and are especially convenient for emulating the additional functionality of the Sky Sat menus. Battery Installation On the rear of the unit, open the battery cover by pressing the release and pulling back the cover. Following the + and polarity indicators inside the battery compartment, insert four AA batteries into the indicated position. Replace the battery compartment cover by inserting the hinged end first, then snapping the rest of the cover back into place. USB Port In order to transfer programming to the TRC-780, it is necessary to connect the unit to a PC running the URC Accelerator software application. Using the supplied cable, connect the MINI-USB side to the TRC-780 and the Type A male USB connector to the computer. After you download for the first time, you will then be able to transfer programming to the TRC-780 through the MRX-10, without having to connect to a PC. This feature is designed to assist with faster, more efficient programming. You can re-configure macros or add IR codes this way, but firmware updates and changes to graphics require a USB connection when downloading. 122

Settings, Configuration and Usage Tips Once programmed, the TRC-780 will communicate with devices using two-way RF through the MRX-10 Advanced Network System Controller. The MRX-10 stores, issues and keeps track of all commands and macros for all IP, IR, RS-232, Relay and Sensor controlled devices on the network. It also provides two-way feedback to the TRC-780. Song artist information and album artwork from the PSX-2 and SNP-1 are among the many twoway features the TRC-780 offers. In addition, the TRC-780 provides users with the ability to set their own event timers and sleep timers, set favorite channels and even enable vacation timers while away from home. (See MRX-10 section of the Total Control Installation Manual for MRX-10 setup details). Since multiple TRC-780s can be installed in a whole house system (up to 32) it may be necessary to provide extra range for communication in large estates or commercial installations. This can be done by incorporating the optional ZR-1 repeater for the TRC-780 (See ZR-1 setup section of Total Control Installation Manual) Screen Settings and Configuration The TRC-780 has a number of onboard screen settings, most which should be configured upon installation. Included are color screen settings, button light settings, date/time settings, button beep and system settings (see below for explanation of each). You can enter the Settings menu by pressing and holding the MAIN + ENT button for three seconds. Once there, if you do not press any button on the Settings screen, the TRC-780 will beep signifying a timeout after 30 seconds and return to the previous setting or main screen. There are two pages of Settings screens. To access the other page, press either of the PAGE buttons. To select a setting, press the settings adjacent button. To go back a step or to get out of the settings screen, press either the MAIN button or the EXIT button on the TRC
Color Screen Color screen settings give two configurable options. 1. Brightness: Adjust the screen brightness by pressing the screen buttons on the left and right side of the slider bar. Once the brightness has been adjusted, simply press the Save button. Pressing the Cancel button will revert to the remotes last saved brightness setting. Note: Higher brightness levels may considerably shorten battery life. 2. Automatic Turn Off: This allows you to adjust the duration the OLED screen will stay illuminated after a button is pressed. Pressing the left and right screen buttons, next to the slider bar, will change how long the OLED screen will stay on. Pressing the Less side will decrease the time in steps down to a minimum time of 5 seconds. Pressing the More side will increase the time in steps up to a maximum of 60 seconds. Once the setting has been adjusted, simply press the Save button. Pressing the Cancel button will revert the remote s Automatic Turn Off setting to the last saved setting. Note: Lengthier screen illumination may considerably shorten battery life. 125
Button Light The Button Light settings page provides two configurable options for MS-780 button lights 1. Automatic ON: Adjusting this setting will control when the hard button backlight turns on. a. Automatic Light Yes: Every time a button is pressed the button back light automatically turns On. b. Automatic Light No: The only way to turn on the hard button backlight is to press the dedicated lights button located on the right side of the remote control. Once all changes have been made, press the Save button. Pressing the Cancel button reverts to the remotes last saved setting. Note: The more often the back light turns ON, the faster the batteries deplete. 2. Automatic Turn OFF: You can adjust the amount of time the backlight remains after a button is pressed. Press the left and right screen buttons, next to the slider bar, to change the duration. Pressing the Less side decreases the time in steps down to a minimum of 5 seconds. Pressing the More side increases the time in steps up to a maximum of 60 seconds. Once the setting has been adjusted, simply press the Save button. Pressing the Cancel button reverts to the remote s last saved Automatic Turn off setting. Note: The longer the backlight stays on, the faster the batteries deplete. 126
Date/Time Settings The Date and Time is automatically sent from the MRX-10 to the MS-780. If you would like to adjust the time or date you can do so on the remote control. Note: Any Date or Time adjustment made on the MS-780 will automatically go out to all the other remotes and keypads in the system. 1. Change Date: Tap the button beside day, month, or year then use the numeric keypad to enter in the new date information. When you are finished, press the Save button. 2. Change Time: Tap the button beside Hour or Minutes then use the numeric keypad to enter in a new time. Set the AM/PM by toggling the button. When you are finished press the Save button. 127
3. Display Date/Time: The MS-780 can display either the Time or the Date, but not both. Select which one you would like to display. Press the screen button next to Time or Date and then press the Save button. Button Beep Use the screen buttons to the left and right of the slider bar to adjust the button sound. Once the setting has been adjusted, simply press the Save button. Pressing the Cancel button will revert to the remotes last saved button beep setting. 128
System Settings The System Settings page provides two options: 1. Power Remaining: This option shows you how much battery life is remaining. You can also adjust when the low battery warning screen will appear by pressing the screen buttons to the left and right of the slider bar. Once the setting has been adjusted, simply press the Save button. Pressing the Cancel button will revert to the remotes last saved Power Remaining setting. Once the low battery percentage is reached a notification screen will appear reminding you the batteries will need to be replaced. 2. System Info: The System Info screen displays data about the TRC-780 s memory usage and operating system version. Pressing the Next screen button will take you to the Operating System information, and pressing the Prev button will take you back to the System Memory information. Press the Ok button when done. 129
Erasing and Resetting WARNING! The factory reset option resets the memory of the TRC-780 to its factory condition. This means all of the programming inside of the remote will no longer be available until you re-load the remote using the Accelerator software application. This feature should only be used when directed by URC Total Control Support Specialists or if you plan on re-programming the TRC-780 from scratch. To erase your MS-780 program, press the Erase button to perform a factory default. Once selected a secondary screen confirms that you really want to erase the program. 130
Firmware Updates Firmware updates are issued periodically for the TRC-780 in order to add features and enhance performance. It is best practice to ensure that your TRC-780s firmware is up to date before every installation. The best way to do this is to always check for LiveUpdates that may be available for your URC Accelerator software. Troubleshooting LCD screen is visibly intermittent: Insert brand new batteries. It is recommended to use premium brand AA Alkaline batteries for optimal performance. Using rechargeable batteries is not recommended. TRC-780 LCD screen is non-responsive: First, try using the settings menu option to factory reset the remote control. You should have a saved version of the most recent programmed Accelerator file with the TRC-780 programming available. Download the latest version of the system file to the TRC-780 and normal remote functionality should be restored. If this does not resolve the issue, please contact URC Total Control Technical Support. The TRC-780 LCD screen reads, Remote is not connected to the network : The TRC-780 may be out of range of the network. Typical range is ft depending upon environmental conditions. If required you can always add a ZR-I repeater to increase range. The TRC-780 seems to be functioning properly but the system is not responding to issued commands: See MRX-10 troubleshooting section. 131
