3 3. System requirements Computer with COM or USB port Windows (98 ->) Serial cable (9pin male to female, pin 2 to 2, pin 3 to 3, pin 5 to 5). USB cable 4. Firmware part number structure xxx-xxxx-xx The first 3 digits defines SW category: 001-xxxx-yy: standard projector firmware The four digits in the middle of the projector firmware part number (represented by xxxx in the above example) are unique and indicate for which product the given SW should be used. Never update to a SW with part number different from the SW part number listed in the menu of the projector (about section) unless instructions from projectiondesign tell you to do so. The last two digits defines the given SW version, these are the rolling revision numbers (yy). 5. Firmware files, the SW file bundle content Software for all products is posted on the service and support section. Projector firmware will consist of the following files and folders: UsbDriver This folder contains USB drivers Appcode is the main firmware file. Bootcode contains the basic timing and communication settings such as USB or serial ports. The bootcode should not be installed unless you are instructed to do so. Flasher.exe is the actual SW upgrade utility 3

Upgrade procedure using serial cable 6-1 Download and save the 001.firmware.zip file to your PC desktop.unzip the file to a location on your PC 6-2 Connect the Serial cable between the COM port on the computer and the RS232 port on the projector. 6-3 Open the flasher.exe application found within the downloaded SW bundle. Note that the actual Appcode software file is selected by default when you open the flasher application within a certain software folder. 6-4 Make sure Notify On Completion is ticked off. 6-5 Make sure communication settings within the flasher program is set to: Connection Serial COM Port COM 1** (or the correct serial port of the PC used for the upgrade) Baud Rate These are also default communication settings when the Flasher 3.0 program is opened 4

5 NOTE: If USB to serial cable is used, please make sure com port setting above equals the com port assigned in the windows device manager, ports section: Make sure that the baud rate settings in the projector menu equals the baud rate in the Flasher 3.0 application 6-6 Press the [flash] button 6-7 Waiting for target reset will appear above the progress bar 5

6 6-8 Connect the power cable to the projector. A blue progress bar should then indicate that the download is occurring DO NOT interrupt until download is complete. Allow approximately 5 minutes to complete. When the below notification box appears, the SW download is complete. 6-9 Remove the power cable from the projector 6-10 Insert the power cord to the projector to complete the upgrade process Note! In some cases after a SW upgrade it might take more time than usual to get the projector into standby mode. In these rare cases the projector internal electronics is restructuring data, typical identification of this is an inconsistently blinking amber LED. This process can take as long as 20 minutes. It is IMPERATIVE that you do not toggle the power cord when the above mentioned data restructuring takes place! 6

Upgrade procedure using USB cable (Bootcode MUST be flashed with RS232 cable). 7-1 Download and save the 001.firmware.zip file to your PC desktop. 7-2 Unzip the file to a location on the PC 7-3 Open the flasher application. Note that the actual Appcode software file is selected by default when you open the flasher application within a certain software folder. 7-4 Make sure communication box in the flasher program is set to USB connection. 7-5 Make sure Notify On Completion is ticked off. 7-6 Connect an USB cable between the PC and the projector. 7-7 Press and hold the Auto button on the projector keypad, then connect the power cable to the projector 7-8 If this is the first time you flash the projector with a USB cable your computer then detects the projector on the USB port. Follow instructions in the USB Driver Wizard in the following page to install correct USB driver. 7-9 Release the auto button 7-10 Select the flash button to start the SW upgrade. A progress bar will then indicate that the download is occurring 7

8 DO NOT interrupt until download is complete. Allow approximately 5 minutes to complete. When the below notification box appears, the SW download is complete Remove the power cable from the projector 7-12 Insert the power cord to the projector to complete the upgrade process Note! 9 8. USB driver Wizard 8-1 The below Found new Hardware wizard appears. Select No, not this time and click [Next] 9

10 8-2 Select install from a list or specific location 8-3 Select Don t search. as you will choose the driver manually 10

11 8-4 When you are instructed to select correct hardware type, make sure Pixelworks Boot connection is selected. 8-5 Click on have disk and browse to the USB driver pwusbio.inf which is found in the downloaded projector sw file bundle (UsbDriver folder). 11

12 8-6 Finally the Hardware Installation detects the Pixelworks Boot connection. Select [continue anyway] 8-7 The USB driver installation continues automatically: 12

13 8-9 Click finish to finalize the USB driver installation Once the USB driver is installed correctly select and continue the software upgrade process from section 7-10 above. 9. Verification Verify in projector menu, status section - that the newly updated firmware version is shown in the menu Please note that illustrations are for illustrative purposes only.
