An online mapping tool developed by the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP), as part of the HealthLandscape mapping platform Provides access to maps, data, and analysis develop for the Bureau of Primary Health Care by John Snow, Inc. (JSI) using Uniform Data System (UDS) and other relevant data to visualize service area information for Health Center Program (HCP) grantees and look-alikes Compares HCP grantee and look-alike data to community/ population data and shows spatial relationships between the program, community attributes, and other resources

The UDS Mapper is open to everyone, not just HCP grantees and look-alikes To begin using the UDS Mapper all you have to do is register for a user name and password at More than one person from an organization CAN have a login for the UDS Mapper

9 What s New in the UDS Mapper Webinar 9 New Version of the UDS Mapper New version is built on JavaScript and takes advantage of the mobile UDS Mapper that was already available Conducted usability testing with long-time and firsttime users of the UDS Mapper in the summer of 2016 Has been available in beta form for a few months but is now live

10 What s New in the UDS Mapper Webinar 10 Why the Changes? Old version of the UDS Mapper was built on Flash Never worked on mobile devices Did not work on Apple browsers Security bugs have been found, leading most browsers to phase out support for Flash New version should work on most platforms and browsers without any known security issues Not recommended on a screen less than 10 inches

11 What s New in the UDS Mapper Webinar 11 New Welcome Screen/ Wizard Designed to help users create service area maps and data tables for Bureau of Primary Health Care (BPHC) opportunities Users can skip the Wizard or use it Users can use only part of the Wizard, if desired Enter a list of ZIP Codes/ ZCTAs to select automatically and/or Enter a list of addresses to mark on the map

13 What s New in the UDS Mapper Webinar 13 Wizard Options BPHC opportunities that require service area maps and data tables Change in Scope Supplemental funding opportunity Service Area Competition, New Access Point, or Look-alike Designation When you select one, you will get instructions telling you what you need to have on your map and how to add it in the Wizard When you select Create Map it will also turn on the types of sites BPHC wants to see on your map

17 What s New in the UDS Mapper Webinar 17 Version Differences (1) Tools Accordion rebranded as the Tool Box Loose tools are aggregated on the left side of the screen in the Tool Kit, Locator tools and Share/ Reset tools Basemaps are separated from the other optional layers Population Indicators will start with default setting to national average

18 What s New in the UDS Mapper Webinar 18 Version Differences (2) Tool Box is in the upper right corner of the map System tools are in the blue bar UDS Mapper tools are on the white area beneath the blue bar Active tool is the one that is open, with icon on dark blue Open, but not active tool icons are light blue Unopened tool icons are gray Click an icon to make that tool active

19 What s New in the UDS Mapper Webinar 19 Other Tools Locator Tools are in the upper left corner of the map Share Tool is beneath locator tools (this is how you save your map) Reset Map Tool Kit is in lower left corner of map and includes: Information Card, Legend, Basemaps, Drawing Tools, Data Table, and Print

20 What s New in the UDS Mapper Webinar 20 Share Tool Allows you to create a URL that you can save in a document or to colleagues in order to recreate your map When sharing, the other person must have a UDS Mapper username When editing a map from the URL, be sure to create a new URL to keep your edits Drawings are now saved and can be edited using the share tool

21 What s New in the UDS Mapper Webinar 21 Explore Health Related Facilities All HCP facilities were moved into a new tool Access by clicking the cross in the Tool Box Add facilities to the map, including Housing and Urban Development public housing facilities (new)

22 What s New in the UDS Mapper Webinar 22 Health Related Facilities Report New option allows you to create a separate report in the Explore Health Related Facilities tool Select area of interest (select ZCTAs using the Explore Service Area tool) Select facilities in the Explore Service Area tool and/or the Explore Health Related Facilities tool Generate, View Report New tab will open with print preview

23 What s New in the UDS Mapper Webinar 23 Information Card Replaces what we used to call the Rollover boxes Information now reliably sits in one location and can be closed if not interested in having them on the screen Information Card Deck replaces the Flared Rollovers to provide more information about a Health Center s UDS report If many Health Related Facilities are stacked on top of each other, tab through multiple information cards

26 What s New in the UDS Mapper Webinar 26 Map My Data Replaces QuickGeocodes Allows users to add points to the map Expands functionality to be able to add one point at a time and build a dataset in the UDS Mapper (Manual Entry) or upload an existing dataset STILL NOT HIPAA COMPLIANT; DO NOT IMPORT PATIENT DATA

27 What s New in the UDS Mapper Webinar 27 Manual Entry Each point can have up to three attributes (like name, type of location, etc.) When you display this group of points, you can select which attribute you want to use to color-code the points

29 What s New in the UDS Mapper Webinar 29 Population Indicators Data Population Indicators data have been updated Five indicators come directly from the American Community Survey at the ZCTA level Population Uninsured used to come directly from ACS is now estimated to ZCTAs by John Snow, Inc., using one-year data at the Public Use Microdata Area level Two indicators will continue to be estimated using the existing methodology used by the Robert Graham Center for these data Low Birth Weight Rate Age-Adjusted Mortality

30 What s New in the UDS Mapper Webinar 30 BRFSS Data in Population Indicators Six indicators are estimated based on data from the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) Diabetes, High Blood Pressure, Obesity, No Dental Visit in the Past Year, Delayed Care Due to High Cost, and No Usual Source of Care Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) changed the way they release the data, so methodology was updated Data for these indicators should not be compared to previous data in the Population Indicators tool

31 BRFSS Data in Population Indicators: Methodology CDC released new data in December 2016 called the 500 Cities Project What s New in the UDS Mapper Webinar 31 Provides small area (census tract) data for the five hundred largest cities in the UDS Using this same methodology for the UDS Mapper Population Indicators data to produce one-year, ZCTAlevel estimates

32 What s New in the UDS Mapper Webinar 32 Population Indicators Population Indicators now start at national benchmark rather than 0 Can still be adjusted to other benchmarks State averages can be found on the Benchmarks page: benchmarks.cfm
