4 1. Introduction ASIX provides a couple of multi-port embedded Ethernet solutions for different embedded applications. One is the AX88742 PCI 32-bit 2-port 10/100M Fast Ethernet controller; another one is the AX88783 non-pci 8/16/32-bit 2-port 10/100M Fast Ethernet controller. The AX88742 is a PCI 2-port 10/100M Ethernet controller which integrates 3-port switching fabric, three 10/100M MACs, two 10/100M PHYs, and the 32-bit PCI bus interface targeted for embedded system applications that need support of two Ethernet ports, typically one for LAN port and one for WAN port. The AX88742 supports the simple 32-Bit 33MHz PCI bus interface and the routine packet checksum calculation, which make it easy to provide 2-port Ethernet connectivity solutions for any embedded MCU with reasonable performance. The built-in switching fabric supports non-blocking wire-speed forwarding and provides four priority queues for advanced QoS functions including Port-Based, 802.1P VLAN, IPv4 TOS/IPv6 COS for voice, video, audio and data traffic classification. The AX88742 combines the benefits of high integration and flexibility which makes it a ideal single-chip solution for designing high performance, QoS-aware, cost effective and small form factor 2-port Ethernet function for any embedded system applications. The AX88783 is a non-pci 2-port 10/100M Ethernet controller, which integrates a 3-port switching fabric, three 10/100M MACs, two 10/100M PHYs, and an 8/16/32-bit SRAM-like host interface. This controller is targeted at embedded system applications that need to support two Ethernet ports, typically one for a LAN port and one for a WAN port. The AX88783 supports a simple SRAM-like host interface, routine packet checksum calculation, and burstmode access, which make it easy to provide high performance 2-port Ethernet connectivity solutions for any embedded MCU. The built-in switching fabric supports non-blocking wirespeed forwarding and provides four priority queues for advanced QoS functions including Port- Based, 802.1p VLAN, IPv4 TOS/IPv6 COS for voice, video, audio and data traffic classification. Jumper Setting J4 Description The AX88742 VCC33 power source comes from the 5V to 3.3V Voltage Regulator. (Default) The AX88742 VCC33 power source comes from the PCI 3.3V power pin directly. The INT signal should be pulled high when the INT pin is set to active low. J8 *Note2 Pull down the INT signal. The INT signal should be pulled down when the INT pin is set to active high. Pull high the PME signal. The PME signal should be pulled high when the PME pin is set to active low. Pull down the PME signal.
