Following are step by step pack instructions how the actuators were packed with PadPak. PadPak Package Design for actuator, SSC81U + SSA81STF 1. Used a standard FEFCO 0201 double wall corrugated with inside dimensions of 500 x 400 x 200 mm. 2. Produced two 1,5 m pads and placed them on top of the box. 3. Produced one 1,5 m pads and place one actuator on the pad. Page 1 of 6

2 4. Rolled the actuator into the pad, as shown in the picture. 5. Placed a new actuator on top of pad and rolled it into the pad Placed in total 5 actuators in the coiled pad. Produced another 1,5 m pad and placed the last 5 actuators in the same way in the coiled pad. Page 2 of 6

3 8. Placed the 2 coiled pads on top of the first two pads. Lowered the actuators together with the pads to the bottom of the box. 9. Folded the protruding pads over the actuators. The box is now ready to be closed. 10. The total amount of PadPak that was used in this design is 6 m. PadPak Package Design for single actuator in box 1. Used a standard FEFCO 0201 single wall corrugated with inside dimensions of 165 x 175 x 75 mm. 2. Produced one 40 cm pad and placed it on top of the box. Page 3 of 6

4 3. Placed the actuator centered on top of the pad. 4. Lowered the actuator together with the pad to the bottom of the box. 5. Folded the protruding pads over the actuator. The box is now ready to be closed. 6. The total amount of PadPak that was used in this design is 40 cm. Page 4 of 6

5 Drop testing To compare the cushioning properties of the current package to the PadPak packages, we performed drop tests. The actuators were given a flat bottom drop from a 76,2 cm drop height. We choose a flat bottom drop because statically bottom drops occur in 70% of all cases. Besides that, flat drops are the most devastating drops to the packed products. The shocks that the products received in both package materials were measured. Shocks are measured in G s. The lower the shock, the lower the G-value and the better the packaging material was. The results of these comparative drop tests are shown in the table below. Graphs of these shocks are attached to this document. In this case it is clear that the PadPak packages give better protection to the your products. The products were tested according to the ISTA Drop Test procedure. The products were dropped from a 76,2 cm drop height, which is typical for products weights between 0-10 kg. The products were given: * 6 flat drops (on each face) * 3 edge drops * 1 corner drop The products were tested. After completion of the 10 th and final drop the products each were unpacked and inspected for any damages. No damages of any kind were observed after unpacking. So, all PadPak packages passed the rigorous ISTA drop test procedure. Page 5 of 6

6 Summary / Comment To pack these actuators we used 2-ply 70/70 PadPak paper. This quality provides good fixation and has excellent cushion properties. After performing comparative drop tests in the current package, we noticed one actuator, (SSC81 U) was damaged, as shown in the picture on the right. All products were subjected to the ISTA Drop Test Procedure in the PadPak package. All passed these rigorous drop tests. We used the same pad lengths, for both large packages, which makes packaging fast and easy. It also makes the pre-producing of pads possible. Thank you for the opportunity to work on this project.
