3 Introduction Version: 3 Date: 10/28/2014 Lenovo T440S The Lenovo T440S Laptop All CNIC laptops are designed for the most secure, unmonitored and comfortable user experience. Before using the laptop it is import to first read about the features and handling procedures of your new Lenovo T440S. The Lenovo T440S Child Development Center Laptops are designed for planning, training and creative curriculum. CNIC and FF&R facilities have equipped all required software needed to create a user friendly computing experience for productivity and creativity in the classroom. This light weight laptop comes programed to work both in a Desktop mode or a Windows 8.1 tile mode, The CAC reader allows for users to access any CAC-enabled websites such as TWMS and webmail when necessary and the various USB Ports are available to easily store and efficiently access external information. The Lenovo T440S will arrive with a label, each laptop has a unique name and serial number which is used to update and easily manage the device. In the box, each user will receive a charger to plug to the laptop and a three year accidental warranty. Should there be any hardware questions or concerns each user should contact the CNIC Unofficial 24/7 Helpdesk number: for support. The CNIC Helpdesk team will use TeamViewer as means to update and troubleshoot the Lenovo T440S Laptops. Should the laptop need to be replaced, the CNIC support team will send you a replacement laptop with a return label included for the laptop in question. The laptops are designed to revert back to their original state after each user has turned off, or restarted the Lenovo T440S laptop. This feature allows the next user the same computing environment as the first; this added security measure also ensures that no sensitive information remains available after the user restarts the laptop, it is extremely important for all users to save their work prior to turning off or restarting the laptop. All users should familiarize themselves with the multiple storage options available which can be found on page 5 of this document. CNIC provides free, unlimited Internet service to FF&R facilities throughout the Navy called gowifi. New FF&R Wi-Fi users must create personal accounts through a simple, one-time sign-up process. Once registration is complete, this account will provide access to the FF&R Wi-Fi network anywhere that the service is available. The Lenovo T440S laptops will be preconfigured to the gowifi wireless SSID. Identity verification protects each user s identity. Since a single account can be issued to an individual, authorized users can rest assured that no one can fraudulently attempt illegal activities in their name. 6 How to Print from the Lenovo T440S Laptop If there is a requirement to add a printer to the Lenovo T440S Laptops please call the Helpdesk Number: Option 2. Please have the laptop and printer information on hand, this can be found on the white label attached to each device. How do I save my work on the Lenovo T440S Laptop There are various ways that a user can save his or her work. Please review the suggestions below. If the user is using a Flash drives to save his or her work: 1. Plug in Flash drives into Lenovo T440S 2. If for example Microsoft Word is open, 3. Select File 4. On the left hand side press Save As 5. Choose the Computer Option 6. The Flash drive will appear under removable disk 7. Click the Flash Drives and Save your work. 8. You may now remove your Flash drive at any moment. 5

7 If the user is saving documents using a Cloud Storage: There are many Cloud storage options such as Drop Box, Google Drive, icloud, or SkyDrive. Please see the steps below to save your work. 1. Microsoft Word is open and the user would like to save the document to SkyDrive, 2. Select File 3. On the left hand side press Save As 4. The SkyDrive option will appear above the Computer option 5. Sign in and Save. 6

8 A few other suggestions on how to save your work: The user can any files or documents to themselves or others as a way to save information. Sign into your and attach the documents. How to Access a Wireless Internet Connection 7

9 1. To connect to a Wireless Network, the user must first make sure that WIFI is enabled. 2. In the Desktop or Tile Mode, the user will launch the Available Network 3. A list of available networks will be visible to the user 4. The user will then select the Wireless Internet Network that he or she would like to connect to. gowifi is a free Wireless Internet option in all FF&R locations. How to sign in and create an account to the Wireless Internet Network gowifi There are two ways to create a gowifi Account: Identity Verification via Credit Card Identity Verification via Identity Code Identity Verification via Credit Card 8

10 FF&R Wi-Fi users have the option of verifying their identity through a simple self-registration process which utilizes their credit/debit information (name and address) as a means of verifying their identity. There are many benefits to self-registration via credit card: Privacy- Users who choose to self-register do not have to supply FF&R staff with any personal information or produce an ID for verification. Speed- Self-registration is generally the quickest way to register for an FF&R WiFi account. Ease- As there are fewer steps to go through with self-registration, users generally experience no technical errors during sign-up. Security-Self-registration is as quick and secure as confirming an airline reservation with a credit card. A simple verification of name to address is conducted. It is always free, and no credit information is stored after registration. Below are a series of screen shots which illustrate the self-registration process. This simple, single-page sign-up simultaneously verifies a user s identity through their credit card information and registers them for their lifetime FF&R WiFi account. Identity Verification Options Step 1: Click on sign up now on the FF&R Wi-Fi home screen. Step 2: Select both Free Access Identity verification via Credit Card and the third box, agreeing to the Terms and Conditions. 9

11 Step 3: Complete the identity verification and registration questionnaire by filling in the following credit/debit information and selecting a username and password. 10

12 Sign-Up Complete Once a user has completed the three self-registration steps, they will be connected to the Internet with their lifetime FF&R Wi-Fi account. Identity Verification via Navy Wi-Fi Identity Code New FF&R Wi-Fi users who do not have credit/debit cards have the option of verifying their identity with the help of authorized FF&R staff. CNIC has established an internal identity verification tool which relies on the face-to-face interaction of a patron and a staff member. In order to verify a user s identity, an authorized staff member will ask for the following: Preferred address and valid identification Once the user has received their personalized Navy Wi-Fi identity code, they will follow the steps below to complete their registration. Step 1: Click on the green sign up now button on the FF&R Wi-Fi home screen. 11

13 Step 2: Select both Free Access Identity verification via Navy Wi-Fi Identity Code and the third box, agreeing to the Terms and Conditions. Step 3: Enter the Navy Wi-Fi identity code generated by an FF&R employee. Registration Step 4: Complete the registration questionnaire by filling in the required fields and selecting a username and password. The Username field auto-fills with the user s address, and may be changed. Passwords may only be alphanumeric and cannot contain special characters. 12

14 Note: The user s first and last name will be saved by their identity code and will appear on the registration screen automatically. Sign-Up Complete Once the user has completed registration, they will be successfully connected to the Internet with their lifetime FF&R Wi-Fi account. 13

15 How to retrieve a forgotten gowifi password Step 1: Press Login. Step 2: Press Forgot Password. Step 3: Enter in your Username, First Name, Last Name, and your . Step 4: You will have to answer your security question prior to receiving your forgotten password 1 2 Note: If a user has forgotten both their username and password, remind them that their username is likely the same as their address. If the user is still unable to retrieve their password, call the NNU help desk at Support The CNIC Unofficial Helpdesk call center is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and only a phone call away. For questions or concern regarding the T440S Laptop Hardware or Software Please Call Option 2. The user will need the laptop name on hand when calling the Helpdesk. The Helpdesk number can also be found on the white label that is located on each laptop; this is also where the laptop name and serial number will be located. Once a call to the helpdesk has been established and a device needs to be replaced, the helpdesk team will ship a new replacement device directly to the site, the site will then ship back the old device using the label and box provided by CNIC. This process has a 24 hour turn around so that the site or program is not disturbed. For questions or Concern regarding gowifi Wireless Internet Please Call Option 1 or The NNU Helpdesk is also available 24/7 and can be reached directly by dialing the number listed on the gowifi sign in page. 14
