1 Software Announcement October 4, 2001 IBM z/vm V4R2 Extends Core Technology Support for the IBM zseries Overview Using virtualization technology as a foundation, z/vm Version 4 Release 2 (V4R2) offers new function and technology that exploits IBM Virtual Machine (VM) capabilities on the mainframe. Virtualization technology allows customers to virtualize processor, communications, storage, and I/O resources which may reduce the overhead of planning, purchasing, and installing new hardware to support new workloads. z/vm V4 offers an ideal platform for consolidating Linux workloads on a single IBM zseries 900 (z900) or S/390 server, enabling you to run hundreds of Linux guest images. Priced on a per-engine basis, z/vm V4 supports IBM Integrated Facility for Linux (IFL) processor features for Linux-based workloads and standard engines for all other z900 and S/390 workloads. When corresponding function is available with Linux on zseries, z/vm V4R2 is designed to provide the capability for Linux guest virtual machines to use clear-key RSA functions of the IBM PCI Cryptographic Coprocessor (PCICC) or the IBM PCI Cryptographic Accelerator (PCICA) for Secure Socket Layer (SSL) acceleration on the zseries 900 and S/390 servers. Additional guest-support improvements that will benefit Linux virtual machine performance include DASD fast Channel Command Word (CCW) translation when data resides above 2 GB, and enhanced page-fault handling, when corresponding function is available with Linux on zseries, allowing a Linux guest to continue processing while the page faults are handled by z/vm. z/vm V4R2 offers some ease-of-use functions to manage Linux images and a migration facility to help existing customers of the Virtual Image Facility move their configuration files and data to a z/vm V4R2 system. z/vm V4R2 extends its hardware support by exploiting technological enhancements for the z900 server, such as: Faster communications between and among virtual machines and logical partitions with HiperSockets support High-speed OSA-Express Token Ring Improved z/os Parallel Sysplex support with virtualized Coupling Facility (CF) duplexing Connectivity enhancements to TCP/IP for z/vm, Level 420 are designed to include a new Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP) server, improved security of the TCP/IP stack by preventing some Denial of Service (DOS) attacks, and support for HiperSockets. A Guest LAN capability is designed to allow a VM guest to install a virtual HiperSockets adapter and connect it with other virtual network adapters on the same VM host system to form an emulated LAN segment. For the most current information on z/vm, refer to the z/vm Web site at: zseries/zvm Key Prerequisites Refer to the Hardware Requirements and Software Requirements sections for details. Planned Availability Date October 26, 2001 At a Glance This new release, z/vm V4R2, includes: Technology exploitation Clear-key RSA support of the IBM PCI Cryptographic Accelerator when corresponding function is available from Linux on zseries Improved I/O performance for guest DASD channel programs when data resides above 2 GB HiperSockets high-speed internal TCP/IP network and OSA-Express Token Ring Guest coupling duplex support Guest support for FICON CTCA communications Connectivity enhancements Guest LAN support New TCP/IP server for mail accessibility using IMAP protocol TCP/IP stack security Systems management improvements Ease-of-use functions for managing Linux images Move configurations and data from Virtual Image Facility Converged VM C sockets libraries within the Language Environment (LE) to aid application development For ordering, contact: Your IBM representative, an IBM Business Partner, or IBM Americas Call Centers at 800-IBM-CALL Reference: ME001 This announcement is provided for your information only. 2 Description Technology Exploitation VM Guest RSA-Assist Support for Linux: With the PTF for APAR VM62905 and when corresponding function is available from Linux for zseries, Linux guest virtual machines can exploit the IBM PCI Cryptographic Coprocessor (PCICC) and the IBM PCI Cryptographic Accelerator (PCICA). This support provides clear-key RSA support for a considerably large number of Linux guests enabling hardware Secure Socket Layer (SSL) acceleration on the IBM zseries 900 and S/390 servers. This new support for Linux virtual machines does not change VM s current guest support of the IBM CMOS Cryptographic Coprocessor. The CMOS Cryptographic support is intended for use with OS/390 or z/os guests and limits the number of guests using cryptography to 16. A VM system may include Linux guests using the RSA-Assist support simultaneously with other VM guests using the CMOS Cryptographic support. Fast Channel Command Word (CCW) Translation Extensions: To help improve the performance of I/O to network devices, the Control Program (CP) provided a fast CCW translator in z/vm V4R1 to translate a wide range of channel programs that perform I/O to network adapters. This fast translator for network devices included support for 64-bit indirect data address words (IDAWs), which allows guest machines to read and write data above the 2 GB limit using 64-bit I/O addressing. In z/vm Version 4 Release 2 (V4R2), 64-bit IDAW support was further extended to the existing DASD fast CCW translator. This enhancement is also designed to include 64-bit IDAW support for DASD channel programs that are simulated via the minidisk cache (MDC). Support for HiperSockets: z/vm V4R2 is designed to support the new z/architecture HiperSockets function for high-speed TCP/IP communication among virtual machines and logical partitions within the same zseries 900 (z900). The HiperSockets function uses an adaptation of the Queued-Direct I/O (QDIO) high-speed I/O protocol previously introduced with zseries OSA-Express Gigabit-Ethernet support. The HiperSockets function allows virtual machines and/or logical partitions to communicate internally over the memory bus using the new internal-queued-direct (IQD) channel type in the z900. Up to four IQD channels can be configured within a z900. Each IQD channel represents the ability for isolated communications among the logical partitions and virtual machines using a given channel. That is, it is designed so that there is no communication between different IQD channels, thereby providing communication security among separate groups of logical partitions and virtual machines connected to different IQD channels. The z900 provides up to 1024 HiperSockets connections through which HiperSockets communication can be used, divided at your discretion among the four IQD channels. z/vm supports HiperSockets for use by guest operating systems and the TCP/IP for z/vm server virtual machine. Thus, VM programs using TCP/IP can communicate via HiperSockets with other VM programs using TCP/IP and with guest operating systems and other logical partitions using TCP/IP. z/vm support for HiperSockets requires a combination of a zseries 900 at EC Level J10607 or J10608, z/vm V4R2, and enabling PTFs corresponding to APARs VM62938 and PQ51738, which are expected to be available by year end For the most current information on the z/vm support for HiperSockets, refer to the z/vm Web site at: For customers who plan to run z/os as a guest of z/vm V4R2, refer to Software Announcement , dated September 18, 2001, for z/os support for HiperSockets. Support for OSA-Express Token Ring: OSA-Express Token Ring support expands on previous OSA Token Ring support by adding 100 Mb/sec support to the earlier 4 Mb/sec and 16 Mb/sec support. The OSA-Express Token Ring feature supports QDIO, a highly efficient data transfer architecture that breaks the barriers associated with the Channel Control Word (CCW) architecture. QDIO support requires z/vm V4R2. Refer to Hardware Announcement , dated October 4, 2001, for more details. The OSA-Express Token Ring feature continues to support non-qdio environments, the traditional TCP/IP (LAN Channel Station LCS) and SNA (Link Services Architecture LSA) traffic. VM/ESA V2R3, or later, is required. z/vm V4R2 is designed to support this new OSA-Express function for use by guest operating systems and by the TCP/IP for z/vm server virtual machine. Guest Coupling Duplexing: The z/vm guest coupling facility is enhanced and is designed to support the new duplexing capabilities of the zseries Coupling Facility. Thus, if you have guest z/os systems in a virtual Parallel Sysplex today, you can add duplexed Coupling Facilities to that environment and take advantage of the latest Parallel Sysplex functions in the virtual environment. You can thereby maintain currency with Parallel Sysplex functions while gaining the benefits of virtualization for pre-production testing of z/os configurations, new release migration, operator education, and so on. FICON Channel-to-Channel Adapter (CTCA) Guest Support: With the PTF for APAR VM62906, z/vm V4R2 will provide guest support for FICON Channel-to-Channel communications between the zseries 900 and S/390 Parallel Enterprise Server Generation 5 and 6. This will enable more reliable and higher bandwidth host-to-host communication than is available with ESCON channels. Move from Model-Group Pricing to Engine-Based Pricing: The engine-based pricing introduced in z/vm V4R1 and continued with z/vm V4R2 may make it financially more attractive to add VM workload incrementally to an existing zseries 900 or S/390 server. Engine-based pricing means customers will pay a one-time charge (OTC) for each processor engine. This can be for standard processor engines or Integrated Facility for Linux (IFL) processor features. For additional information on the z/vm support for the IFL, refer to Software Announcement , dated May 29, z/vm V4R2 includes the engine-based priced, optional features of RealTime Monitor (RTM) FL410, Performance Reporting Facility (PRF) FL410, and Directory Maintenance Facility (DirMaint) FL410. These features have not been updated for z/vm V4R2 and are at the same functional level as when they were introduced in z/vm V4R1. However, the PTF for APAR number VM62908 has been installed to DirMaint so it will function properly on z/vm V4R

3 Connectivity Enhancements VM Guest-LAN Support: In addition to supporting the HiperSockets function on IQD channels, z/vm V4R2 is also designed to support the HiperSockets function on guest LANs that VM provides for interconnection of virtual machines. That is, VM simulates the HiperSockets function for communication among virtual machines without the need for IQD channels, much as VM simulates channel-to-channel adapters for communication among virtual machines without the need for ESCON, FICON, or other channel-to-channel connections. Guest-LAN support enhances the HiperSockets function by providing an essentially unlimited number of isolated guest LANs (rather than the limit of four IQD channels). Each such guest LAN can be used by a group of virtual machines to communicate among themselves, independent of other groups of virtual machines on other guest LANs. System guest LANs can be defined to which individual users can be linked. In addition, guest LANs can be defined to be associated with a specific user and with other users allowed access as required. There is no limit to the number of virtual devices that can be connected to a guest LAN. The guest connecting to a guest LAN must have HiperSockets support which could be z/os V1R2, z/vm V4R2, or Linux for zseries. An additional benefit of guest-lan support for communication among virtual machines is that VM can better control the locking of virtual pages in memory when data is transferred between virtual machines. Another advantage of guest-lan capability is that customers with S/390 servers can gain the benefits of HiperSockets communication among the virtual machines within a VM image, since no real IQD channels are required. TCP/IP Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP) Server: The new TCP/IP IMAP Server included with TCP/IP for z/vm, Level 420 provides support for an IMAP Version 4 Revision 1 (IMAP4rev1) mail server that runs on z/vm. This support allows you to utilize the strengths of z/vm (reliability, availability, and security) for storing and serving electronic mail while allowing any IMAP4rev1 client to access and manipulate mail messages using the IMAP protocol that is defined by RFC The messages are kept in the z/vm IMAP Mailstore (residing in an SFS filepool), but can be accessed remotely by client programs as if they were local. For example, stored on the z/vm IMAP server can be manipulated from a desktop computer at home, a workstation at the office, or a laptop computer while away on business without the need to transfer messages back and forth. TCP/IP Stack Security Improvements: TCP/IP for z/vm, Level 420 improves the security of the TCP/IP stack by preventing some Denial of Service (DOS) attacks. These attacks include: Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP) Echo Request packets sent to IP broadcast or multicast addresses (Smurf) User Datagram Protocol (UDP) Echo Request packets sent to IP broadcast or multicast addresses (Fraggle) ICMP Echo Request packets that are too large (Ping-o-Death) Systems Management Easier Management of Linux Images: The new System Administration Facility tools are intended for use on a non-tailored z/vm system. These tools are based on some of the ease-of-use functions that are part of the S/390 Virtual Image Facility for Linux. These functions help you create and manage multiple Linux images on a single z/vm platform. You will be able to allocate resources among multiple Linux servers running on z/vm. z/vm will manage the assignment of portions of hardware to each individual Linux image. A client program that runs under both Linux and CMS is used to send system management commands to the System Administration Facility server. These commands create Linux images, assign disk partitions, query, start and stop Linux images, and perform other control functions. In addition to these ease-of-use functions, the migration facility (VIFMIGR) can be used to move existing Virtual Image Facility configurations and data to a z/vm V4R2 system. z/vm V4 is not a replacement product for the Virtual Image Facility (5739-A01), but z/vm V4R2 does offer similar function found in the Virtual Image Facility product, in addition to extensive capabilities not available with the Virtual Image Facility. OBSERVER Support: OBSERVER support in z/vm V4R2 allows the output of one virtual machine s console to be observed by another. This enables application monitoring, user assistance, systems management automation, and other functions. OBSERVER support may be particularly useful in an environment where multiple Linux guests are running under z/vm. Converging VM C Socket Libraries There are inconsistencies and incompatibilities among the numerous socket APIs on z/vm. A new C sockets library has been created within the Language Environment (LE) for MVS and VM which is designed to provide: A single and preferred C sockets API encompassing the functionality of both the existing OpenEdition for VM/ESA C socket library and the TCP/IP VM C socket library Consistency with OS/390 UNIX System Services sockets by implementing the new C sockets API within LE for MVS and VM and a new set of OpenExtensions BPX1 Callable Services for sockets, which will be consistent with the OS/390 UNIX System Services BPX1 services A version of the TCP/IP for z/vm Remote Procedure Call (RPC) function library that can be used in conjunction with the Language Environment C sockets New Ordering Process The z/vm V4 System Delivery Offering (SDO), program number 5739-A04, is the IBM program offering for z/vm that includes a single deliverable containing z/vm V4R2 and a group of fully serviced IBM licensed program products. The z/vm SDO is the only method that can be used to order z/vm V4R2 and ordering capability is planned for October 4, The z/vm SDO package contains: z/vm V4R2 System DDR z/vm SDO Optional Products Enabling Aid, formerly known as the SDO Enabling Feature z/vm SDO licensed products The key benefit of the z/vm SDO is the ability to dynamically update the SDO with new program products (versions and releases), with service when available, or

4 deleting withdrawn products. This capability makes the SDO a more effective solution for the z/vm V4 customer. For a complete list of products available and serviced with the z/vm V4R2 SDO or for more information on the z/vm SDO, refer to the z/vm Web site at: The z/vm V3R1 SDO (5654-A20) can still be ordered after the availability of the z/vm V4R2 SDO. Solution Financing for zseries 900 or S/390 from IBM Global Financing Moving your company to the world of e-business presents significant opportunities, but with real challenges that include sourcing, integrating new applications, and establishing better ways to serve your customers. Today s highly competitive environment often requires creative financial solutions to execute timely IT projects that are essential to your future. IBM Global Financing (IGF) can help you perform a successful and cost-effective transition to the e-business marketplace by making your zseries 900 or S/390 solution more affordable. A Financing Solution with Important Benefits Costs for z/vm V4R2, including the OTC per processor engine as well as the charges for Subscription and Support (S&S) can be financed with payments designed to fit your budget. Payments for your entire zseries 900 or S/390 solution (hardware, software, services, both IBM and non-ibm components) to match benefit flow. Flexibility is crucial because the financial rewards of Linux implementation are realized at project end, while costs are incurred at the start. Possible off-balance sheet financing may eliminate the need for additional equity by spreading up-front costs over the project life. You receive a single invoice for all financed elements of solution. Finance Some or All of your Linux Solutions zseries 900, S/390 Parallel Enterprise Server, or Multiprise 3000 server acquisition, and any associated additional hardware Linux for zseries or S/390, z/vm, WebSphere, and other IBM Initial License Charge (ILC) software, and independent software vendor (ISV) OTC software Services, either from IBM, IBM Business Partners, or an ISV Extended maintenance offerings For help in designing the correct financing approach for your Linux and zseries 900 or S/390 solution, contact your IGF representative or visit the IGF Web site at: Accessibility by People with Disabilities The following features support use by people with disabilities: Operation by keyboard alone Optional font enlargement and high-contrast display settings Screen readers and screen magnifiers tested for use by people with visual impairment This program is EuroReady. Euro Currency For more information on the implications of the euro, visit the IBM euro Web site at: EuroReady Products IBM considers an IBM product to be EuroReady if the product, when used in accordance with its associated documentation, is capable of correctly processing monetary data in the euro denomination and of respecting the euro currency formatting conventions (including the euro sign). This assumes that all other products (for example, hardware, software, and firmware) that are used with this product are also EuroReady. IBM hardware products that are EuroReady may or may not have an engraved euro sign key on their keyboards. Currently, EuroReady status applies primarily to IBM products specific to the EMU countries. Products that are not specific to these countries are deemed to be not ready for euro unless otherwise stated in the product s country-specific specifications. IBM Hardware Ready IBM supplies certain IBM products which include third-party software (pre-loaded or not) and/or third-party attached hardware. In these instances, IBM is not in a position to assert that these third-party products are, in themselves, EuroReady. Therefore, such IBM products will be designated as hardware ready. EuroReady Solutions IBM considers a solution to be EuroReady when the solution providers have: Analyzed the euro requirements, including the need to comply with relevant EC rules Built in appropriate function and can clearly demonstrate this by: Detailing euro related requirements Describing how these will be implemented in the solution Declaring when the implementation will be generally available The euro capabilities of a EuroReady solution will be clearly identified as features of the solution specification, as described in the contracts document. Product Positioning z/vm V4 is the follow-on product for VM/ESA and z/vm V3R1. It provides additional support and exploitation opportunities for the thousands of customers who have built enterprise-wide automation and infrastructure enhancements on the VM platform in support of their applications, database systems, and e-business solutions. It also provides the capability to run Linux on the IFL processor feature

5 z/vm V4 is intended to address the following customer situations: It enables you to run a large number of Linux server images on a single zseries 900 or S/390 server, considerably more images than the 15 supported by the zseries 900 or S/390 LPAR mode of operation. These Linux images can be deployed on standard processor engines or IFL processor features with z/vm V4. You can run multiple Linux images on an IFL-configured z/vm system without affecting the software fees of your existing zseries 900 or S/390 environment. z/os, Linux, OS/390, z/vm, VM/ESA, TPF, or VSE/ESA customers can add z/vm V4 to their environment and only pay a z/vm price that corresponds to the number of engines. It is ideally suited for those who want to move Linux and/or UNIX workloads deployed on multiple servers onto a single zseries 900 or S/390 server, while maintaining the same number of distinct server images. This eliminates the need to reduce the number of server images as the workload is moved to zseries 900 or S/390. Since the number of real servers (hardware) is reduced, your cost savings may be realized by managing large server farms deployed on virtual servers instead of multiple hardware servers. Deploying Linux workload on z/vm V4 is particularly attractive if the workload interacts with zseries 900 or S/390 servers, applications, or data located on the same zseries 900 or S/390 server. If you are using the Virtual Image Facility, you should consider z/vm V4 because it provides additional flexibility offered by the virtual machine environment which includes: Guest support for zseries 900 and S/390 operating systems including OS/390, z/os, VSE/ESA, TPF, Linux, z/vm, and VM/ESA System administration tools for performance, accounting, auditing, and more Enhanced security features Wider variety of supported disk and tape storage devices You can run multiple Linux server images on z/vm V4 in a logical partition or basic (native) mode. If you are an OS/390 customer migrating to OS/390 R10 or z/os, you will find z/vm V4 gives you added flexibility for your test and migration work. z/vm V4R2 supports the execution of 64-bit operating systems running on the zseries 900. If you have real memory constraints, you may experience relief by running z/vm V4 in 64-bit mode on a zseries 900. This constraint relief is provided for ESA/390 guest operating systems such as TPF. It is not uncommon for TPF customers who run tens of guest systems for testing to encounter paging constraints imposed by VM/ESA. Customers running a large number of MVS, OS/390, VSE/ESA, or Linux images may also benefit from this support. If you have multiple servers supporting your business environment, you can take advantage of larger memory capacity and consolidate more workload on a zseries. If you are a VM/ESA customer requiring more memory to cache CMS minidisks, you can exploit memory above 2 GB for minidisk cache with z/vm V4. If you are a VM/ESA customer, you will benefit from the enhanced support in z/vm V4R1 for connectivity (TCP/IP) and device support. If you are a VM/ESA customer and require SSL-secure TCP/IP network traffic, such as Telnet sessions and Web transactions, you will be able to obtain it with z/vm V4. Guest Parallel Sysplex support is enhanced in z/vm with the exploitation of the 64-bit architecture providing the ability to address larger amounts of real and virtual memory. This will allow you to develop and test your 64-bit Parallel Sysplex applications in a guest environment. z/vm V4R2 also provides a duplex capability for coupled guests in a Parallel Sysplex system environment.
