1 Software Announcement February 18, 2003 OS/390, V1.5 Supports XML Open Standards for Java and C++ Parsers and Java XSLT Processor Overview IBM XML Toolkit for z/os and OS/390, V1.5 is designed to provide a valuable infrastructure component to assist you in creating, integrating, and maintaining your business-to-business (B2B) solutions. What s New in V1.5 OS/390, V1.5 provides Apache-based extensible Markup Language (XML) parser technology for both Java and C++. exensible Stylesheet Language Transformations (XSLT) processor support is provided for Java. OS/390, V1.5 includes current software developed by the Apache Software Foundation. The parsers in this release correspond to the Apache Software Foundation s Xerces2 Java Parser and Xerces-C++ Version The XSLT processor in this release corresponds to the Apache Software Foundation s Xalan Java Version Key Prerequisites IBM zseries server or S/390 hardware z/os V1.2 (5694-A01), or later; or z/os.e V1.3 (5655-G52), or later. The technology levelset of this toolkit contains three parts: a C + + Parser, a Java Parser and a Java Processor, based on the Apache Software Foundation Xerces and Xalan Technologies. 2 Description OS/390, V1.5 is designed to improve the speed of deployment and help reduce the complexities of information exchange within business integration. This software is provided, at no additional charge, to customers who have a license for either: z/os V1.2 (5694-A01), or later z/os.e 1.3 (5655-G52), or later What s New in V1.5 The XML C++ Parser (XML4C V5.0.0), based on Apache Software Foundation s Xerces-C++ Version incorporates the following features: New DOM C++ bindings based on the previously experimental idom interface (designed for improved performance). Provides the ability to prepare and cache grammars. This new feature has been designed for enhanced performance by enabling the reuse of grammars when parsing with validation. Experimental DOM 3. Optionally exploits z/os Unicode Services. The XML Java parser (XML4J V4.1.3) is based on the Apache Software Foundation s Xerces2 Java Parser and offers the following: Added API for Post Validation Info Set The XSLT Java Processor (LotusXSL-Java Version 2.4.3) offers the following: Prototype for DOM Level 3 xpath experimental API New support standardized EXSLT (extensions to XSLT) extension support Updated parser support to align with current technology Product Positioning XML Toolkit for z/os and OS/390 fits within an Enterprise Application Integration (EAI) family of IBM transformation and integration products. Technical Information Specified Operating Environment Hardware Requirements The hardware requirements for this product are any z/series or S/390 hardware or equivalent hardware that supports: z/os V1.2 (5694-A01), or later z/os.e V1.3 (5655-G52), or later Software Requirements: OS/390, V1.5 requires z/os V1.2 (5694-A01), or later, or z/os.e V1.3 (5655-G52), or later. In addition, z/os UNIX or OS/390 UNIX System Services base elements must be active. The Java XML parser and XSLT processor require that IBM Development Kit for OS/390, Java 2 Technology Edition (5655-D35) with PTF UQ62598, or later be installed. Compatibility: The XML Toolkit for z/os and OS/390 is based on open source software from Apache which does not provide for upward compatibility. Care must be taken when installing OS/390, V1.5 since the parsers and XSLT processor in this toolkit are not necessarily upward compatible with previous versions. The packaging of OS/390, V1.5 is designed so that applications that are using either XML Toolkit for z/os and OS/390, V1.4 or XML Toolkit for z/os and OS/390, V1.3 will continue to run. This allows for continued use of these levels of the toolkit by applications that have written to their specific APIs. Limitations For important information about interoperability and supported environments, refer to the XML Toolkit Web site at: Planning Information XML Toolkit for z/os and OS/390 V1.5 (5655-J51) replaces XML Toolkit for z/os and OS/390 V1.4 (5655-J51). Installability: Due to general lack of upward compatibility in the Apache open source code upon which it is based, OS/390, V1.5 cannot guarantee upward compatibility. Therefore, applications based on prior releases, in general, may need to continue to require those prior releases. In support of these releases, both V1.4 and V1.3 are included in the IBM XML Toolkit for z/os and OS/390, V1.5 distribution package and will be installed, by default, along with V1.5, if not already present. While XML Toolikit for z/os and OS/390 requires z/os V1.2, or later, IBM XMLToolkits for z/os and OS/390 V1.3 and V1.4 continue to support OS/390 and its associated hardware as documented in their corresponding customer announcements. Since OS/390, V1.5 does not include a C++ XSLT Processor, the continued use of the V1.4 C++ Processor is required for support of this feature. Customers who already have XML Toolkit for z/os and OS/390, V1.4 or V1.3 installed can install XML Toolkit for This announcement is provided for your information only. Ordering this program through the Internet ShopzSeries (formerly SHOP390) provides an easy way to play and order your z/os ServerPac or CBPDO. It will analyze your current installation, determine the correct product migration, and present your new configuration based on z/os. Additional products can also be added to your order (including determination of whether all product requisites are satisfied). ShopzSeries is available in the U.S. and several countries in Europe. Customized Offerings Product media is shipped only via Customized Offerings (for example, CBPDO, ServerPac, Systempac ). Non-customized items (CDs, diskettes, source media, media kits) will continue to be shipped via the standalone product. Terms and Conditions Licensing: IBM International Program License Agreement. Proofs of Entitlement (PoE) are required for all authorized use. These products are licensed under the IBM Program License Agreement (IPLA), and the associated Agreement for Acquisition of Support, and the Addendum for Support Z which provides for support with ongoing access to releases and versions of the program. These programs have a one-time license charge for use of the program and an ongoing recurring charge for the enhanced support that includes telephone assistance (voice support for defects during normal business hours) as well as access to updates, releases, and versions of the program as long as support is in effect. S/390 and zseries IBM Operational Support Services Support Line is an option for those customers who desire added services. Limited Warranty Applies: Yes Program Services: This program has program services for a minimum of one year from acquisition from IBM or authorized Business Partner. Program Support: Enhanced Support, called Subscription and Support, includes telephone assistance (voice support for defects during normal business hours) as well as access to updates, releases, and versions of the program as long as support is in effect. The customer will be notified of discontinuance of support with 12 months notice. Money-Back Guarantee: If for any reason you are dissatisfied with the program, return it within 30 days from the invoice date, to the party (either IBM or its reseller) from whom you acquired it, for a refund. This applies only to your first acquisition of the program.
