5 Recap: 25 Jan 2018 workshop You said We did You asked us to add Part Funded Reinforcement into our plans for this year It would be helpful if users could register their interest in certain areas of G81 You would like more time to discuss EV Charging points, and in voting, you gave this a high priority. We have committed in our 2018/19 ICE Work Plan to carry out a review of ICP part funded reinforcement activity including previous UKPN and other DNO pilots, to identify learning points and optimum way forward. (29.18) This has been included in our draft G81 requirements. We will capture your ideas in redesigning the G81 website during a break out session today. We have prioritised in our 2018/19 ICE Work Plan to run workshops for customers and stakeholders looking to install EV charging points from June 2018 and dates will be published shortly. 5

6 Initiatives completed Initiative 1.17 Reduce the level of rejection of designs at 33kV Measure 10% reduction in rejection rate over 12 months What we did 33kV design workshop held on 4 October. 11 ICP and IDNO attendees were able to discuss process and common issues with our design teams. In the period from October to March 2018, five of the seven EHV designs submitted to us met the required standard. Overall that represents a 45% rejection rate across12 months, meeting our objective to reduce by 10% 6 6

7 Initiatives completed Initiative Enable ICPs to carry out self-certification of their work Measure Process developed and LV self-certification trialled as first phase of rollout What we did Between the two pilot participants only one self-certification had been completed by 30 June 2017 so the pilot was extended for a further six months. We invited ICPs involved in Self-Service under 70kVA (initiative 15.17) and EV charging points to join this pilot in order to boost volumes. Although this did not result in any additional volumes, the main participant subsequently self-certified five further schemes, enabling us to complete the pilot. 7 7

8 Initiatives completed Initiative Investigate the provision of data to assist ICPs to carry out earthing studies and look at the feasibility of providing access to the UK Power Networks earthing tool Measure Data available to ICPs and findings published What we did The tool was built and underwent user acceptance testing by nine ICP designers and was deployed on 29 March 2018, via an RDS portal, to all of the 154 users that had requested access. A further 197 RDS accounts for the remaining designers that only require Netmap are being prepared to be rolled out (See 29.18) 8 8

24 11kV Triplex Cable UK Power Networks Asset Management received a number of reports from ICPs and internal staff, that they were experiencing a higher than normal number of sheath faults on one particular manufacturers 11kV Triplex Cable. The issue only related to cable supplied by Nexans. When samples were examined they were found to fully comply with UKPN s and the relevant British Standard. The British Standard specifies the following requirements for the outer sheath:» Minimum thickness, tensile strength and minimum elongation at the break. 24

25 11kV Triplex Cable However, when the samples were compared with UKPN s other manufacturers cable, the hardness of the material was noticeably softer. Nexans were approached and they suggested that the differences were down to polyethylene material used for the sheath (linear low density polyethylene). UKPN has now instructed Nexans to use a harder medium density polyethylene for all 11kV triplex cable. This change is now complete and the new specification of Nexans cable has now started to be delivered. 25

29 ICE consultation Your Support We ll be publishing our ICE Looking Back and Looking Forward Report next week. In it, we detail how we developed and delivered our plans for 2017/18 ( Looking Back ) and how we have developed our plan for 2018/19 ( Looking Forward ). Ofgem are likely to issue a consultation in late June seeking your feedback on our report. If the responses Ofgem receive are insufficient to convince them that we have involved you in our planning and delivered on our commitments, we may, as last year, be subject to the risk of a substantial financial penalty. We would greatly value your support at this early stage to help avoid a recurrence of last year s events. 29

39 A&D Charges: Objectives Our objective is to ensure our resources are focused on delivering an effective service on those schemes that have a reasonable chance of proceeding to the delivery phase We will do this by discouraging irresponsible and highly speculative enquiries submitted by a minority of our customers Our overall aim is to promote responsible development, ultimately reducing costs and improving service levels for all customers UK Power Networks. 40 Reduction of upfront payment We ve listened to our customers and in response to feedback received, we propose to reduce the value of the upfront payment by splitting the A&D charge as follows: 1. Request a minimum contribution required upfront for each request for a Connection Offer 2. Require the balance of the A&D charge to be payable upon acceptance of the Offer 3. This approach will apply to both S16 and SLC15 A&D charges included in tables C and D respectively of our published Charging Methodology Statement UK Power Networks. All rights reserved 40
