This is the home page of the Membership Committee as of August Buttons, boxed in verbiage and underlined material can be clicked to transport the viewer to more information on that topic. Be aware that contents can be updated throughout the year. A NOTE: be sure to clear your cache on your computer occasionally as it stores website formats that may have changed between usage. 4
Let s examine some of the point and click options on the home page. First, Become A Member 5
After pointing and clicking on Become A Member this is what comes up. Note the new menu bar on the left side. This allows you to avoid having to go back and forth between the home page to seek new topics. There is an additional topic on this menu bar that is not on the home page; that is the Brochures button. 6
If you scroll your pointer over these topics then a drop down menu of the contents appears for each. You can access these sub topics by clicking on them. Be aware that these are sensitive to movement so be patient. 7
Back to the Become A Member home page, let s point and click on the first bulleted item, Become a Member. 8
By clicking on Become a Member, it takes you to the home page of joining USPS. 9
When you point and click on the second bulleted item on the Become A Member home page, Welcome Auxiliarist, this is the page that comes up. It is the welcome letter from the current R/C to USCGAux members who may be interested in joining USPS. The partnership we have with the USCG and Aux is monitored through the Govt & Partners Relation Committee. MEMCOM is involved by offering a personalized, quick application process for Auxiliary members. So let s see where Click Here takes you 10
Here is the application that interested Auxiliarists complete online. It goes to one of the MEMCOM Stf/Cs, currently Sandy Krupa, who assists the interested Auxiliarist become a member, whether by answering questions, directing them to a local squadron, or other. It is personalized customer service much like what the squadron membership committee chairman provides. Let s point and click on the Membership Home verbiage located at the top of the left side menu bar. 11
Back on the MEMCOM home page, let s explore what the content is behind each of the topic buttons. First, Awards/Contests 12
Scroll down the entire page, only part of it is shown here. Each of the items in blue and underlined can be clicked and more information will be displayed. All MEMCOM Awards and Contests are represented. The first section, General Informational Award Flyers, are single page, brief descriptions of the individual awards and contests. The next section provides the details. This information should be updated annually so that the applications and processes are current. For instance, take a look at the BoatUS Civic Service Award section. This award process was totally revised for 2013; an application is available for both squadrons and districts. There is a full how to for completing the application with explanation of how the award process will work. It is greatly simplified for applicants. 13
Recall that the side bar menu currently has one topic that is not on the MEMCOM home page: Brochures. When clicked upon this is displayed. Lots of tools for squadrons. 14
Back on the MEMCOM home page, let s explore the Current Information button. 15
The most current news item will be posted. In this instance it is the most recent MEMCOMments newsletter. A brief outline of the contents is also displayed. 16
Back to the MEMCOM home page. Now we ll click on each of the buttons, starting with the left side and working our way down the list, to show what is displayed. 17
18
Be aware that as you scroll down the page the Archived MEMCOMments are listed with a similar outline of contents. These can all be accessed simply by clicking on the issue. 19

A tool available to all members is SailAngle. Squadron, District, and National Membership Committee members can utilize this communications tool if a member of the Membership Group. 39
You can access SailAngle from the USPS website from either the USPS home page or 40
the MEMCOM home page. Both by point & click. 41
If accessing through the MEMCOM home page this is displayed about you, in this instance it is the current R/Cs information. 42
As USPS members, click on the top box, highlighted in blue, to access SailAngle. 43
This is an example of a SailAngle member s home page which displayed after the previous box was clicked. 44
Let s explore 45
My Inbox displays messages in a highlight mode. Click on each one individually for the full information. It is similar to . You are able to send and receive individual messages, not just Group messages. It is a great way to separate your USPS related communications from your home account. The caveat is only SailAngle members can be accessed through this system. 46
Notice the Groups section of the menu bar; place the pointer on it and a drop down menu appears from which a selection can be made. If you click on Groups then this is displayed. Choosing Membership Committee. 47
This is the Membership Committee Group home page. Take a look at the components displayed on this page. We will explore the left side bar menu topics by clicking on each one individually. 48
Messages: there are two types available. Group Forum Message allows dialog between all members of the Group, replies can be seen by all (unless a private message is sent which is seen only by the recipient). Group Messages are one way communications sent to all members of the Group, i.e. the above. A reply can be sent to the originator of the Group Message; it will not be seen by any other members of the Group. This screen shows Group Messages. 49
This is the Group Forum home page. Members can read the original forum message/question, all posted responses, and post a response. This is an excellent tool for starting a dialog within the membership community. 50
Items of group interest can be posted to the Calendar. Information was recently added about Award & Contest deadlines. This information changes so it is wise to check in on it! 51
File Cabinet. A super useful online tool for storing copies of Membership documents, presentations, and the like. All members of the Group have access to this information. Look at what is already stored here. Let s examine the General & Tools file 52
By clicking on the file, the contents is displayed. Each of these individual topics can be clicked on to expose the full document. 53
Members of the Group are listed. The list can be displayed in a variety of ways, i.e. most recent, alphabetically, etc. 54
The ultra informative Help page. Get questions answered quickly, watch tutorials, expand your knowledge. 55
We covered the Dues Status Report briefly in the overview of the MEMCOM Home Page and its contents. Let s quickly review what it offers. 56
You can access the Dues Reporting System through the Treasurer s Dept by clicking on Dues, Forms, Policies and Budget. This is page is then displayed. 57
You can also access the Dues Reporting System through the Membership home page by clicking on the Retention button then clicking on Dues Reports as shown here. 58
Regardless of which way you access the System, this is the first page displayed. To enter the System you need your Squadron or District Account Code and either the User, or Updater, or Master Password. Once this data is input, click on Login. 59
For this example, the Cyber Squadron account code and password was entered. This page then is displayed upon Login. Note the side bar menu. Let s click on Member Status. 60
Here is the first page displayed; let s examine the contents of the four boxes of data. 61
62
63
64
The side bar menu includes a dictionary of the terms used by USPS Headquarters (HQ) to describe the dues status of members. 65
Using this Search engine, you can tailor your membership dues status report. 66
For instance, selecting the status of DUE and filter to TRIAL MEMBERS displays those Trial Members who have received their renewal notice and whose payment will be due in one month. This allows the membership chairman, or other, to contact the Trial Member and express their hope that the membership experience has been satisfactory, announce upcoming events for members, and encourage them to join. 67
Another important side bar menu item is Outstanding Dues Notices. This creates a list of all non renewals and indicates the membership type: DP/Trial/Past (Dues Paying or Trial Membership or Past Member). Clicking on the column header changes the list presentation. This listing can be used to start a personal campaign to retain these members or to survey them as to what can be done better to retain them; the opportunities are many. 68
69
70
Districts can access information about the squadrons in the District. For example, in D22 is the Sanibel Captiva Sail & Power Squadron which was selected by using the Search/Filter menu. 71
The District can review all of its squadrons and their member status through the Member Status Summary; the bottom line is the District total for each column. 72
The District can also review a summary of the Member Type of the squadrons for each member category (Dues Paying, Trial, and Past). 73
Additionally a breakdown of the Single/Family Units can be displayed. 74
The District Treasurer can make use of the information generated by assessment deposits made to the district by HQ. Here a $10 deposit is for a primary and $15 for the family unit. Similarly, squadrons can review the membership dues deposited to their squadron. 75
Districts can also look at the New Members entering each squadron. 76
The New Members listing provides the method of joining. A good tool for recruiting support. 77
78
HQ800 is the program that Membership Committee chairmen should review with their Educational Officers to make sure the ABC3 class registration process is set up to accept Trial Membership. This should be done when the class is first registered online. 79
There are resources available to assist the Membership chairmen with understanding HQ800. This page is accessed from the Membership Committee home page after clicking on How To/Tools button. 80
Displayed is the How To, which is a step by step process; if you haven t already read this issue, then do it. Read the all of the information BEFORE you use the program to ensure that all steps are completed in the correct order. It will save you time in the long run. 81
Another site for information and assistance with HQ800 is the Educational Dept home page. Explore the offerings, learn what might affect your membership job. Let s explore the topic HQ 800: Current Helps. 82
After reading the information and learning to go to Downloads, this page is displayed. 83
There is a wonderful tutorial for the Educational officers on how to use HQ 800. It behooves every membership chairman or Administrative Officer to review this tutorial. The Trial Membership Program commences with the proper set up of HQ 800 for ABC3 classes. Partner with your Educational officer. 84
This page is from the tutorial and displays the page which affects membership and ultimately the squadron. Be sure that the box is checked in front of Offer 6 Month Memberships. 85
