2 Accessing the Computer Club s Web Site Background: The Club s Web Site was designed and created to provide members with a place to go on the Internet to gain access to computer-oriented information particularly as is required by our members. It was created using a software package called, WordPress and can be accessed by entering the following web address into your browser and searching:- scascc.wordpress.com. It does not attempt to answer all the questions you may have regarding your use of your PC, but it does provide a wealth of useful information reflecting subjects typically covered in our presentations. Accessing the Web Site s Welcome page: Entering the above address into your browser should result in the Welcome page being displayed, as follows.... ~ 2 ~

3 Following a brief summary of the Club s objectives is a more detailed identification of what is going to be discussed at each of the Monday and Friday meetings during the current month. There is then coverage of the Home Help facility, activities made available at the Innisfil Public Library, and how you can anonymously submit any questions you would like answered at the Friday meetings. Near the top of each of the Web Site s pages you will see the following set of tabs which can be used to go to the function concerned.... We will now go to each function to see what is made available at that point. Meeting Summaries: Below the page headings the Meeting Summaries page starts like this.... ~ 3 ~

4 You will notice that the subjects most recently covered in our meetings occur at the top of this page, followed by a lengthy list of topics going back several years. Each of the presentations and/or corresponding reports featured in this list can be brought on to your own computer simply by clicking on the title in which you are interested so that you can go through the material in your own time. As you know, you can request a printed copy of any of the items listed from the Computer Club for a very reasonable cost if you prefer hard copy. Advertising: The next page s title is self-explanatory. By clicking on the Advertising tab you will see the conditions governing the use of this page, plus any computer-related items which have been listed for sale by members. You can also post a Wanted ad if you re looking for a scanner, computer desk, etc. Home Help Services: Once again, this page describes the rules and regulations governing access to this free benefit, who is entitled to call for Home Help, what functions are covered and which ones are not. About Us Members: The About Us Members section lists all members of the Executive Committee responsible for organizing the Club s activities. It shows the annual cost per household for membership in the Sandycove Computer Club and relates the times and venues for regular Monday and Friday meetings. Tips and Tricks: This page should be read by all members. It contains useful information intended to make the use of your computer more effective and more enjoyable. For example, currently-listed items include hints on how best to send/forward messages; how to manage your use of printing facilities and most-efficiently use ink-jet printer cartridges, which paper to use, draft vs top quality, etc.; and whether or not it s ~ 4 ~

5 advisable to leave your computer switched-on all the time. Go and have a look it makes interesting reading! Helpful Web Links: Again, the heading is self-explanatory. Categories currently covered in this section are: - General Interest & Local; - Medical Information; - Computer & Internet Information; - Downloadable Free Programs from Google; - Computer Hardware Drivers, Updates, etc: - Computer Software; - Genealogy; - Home Stuff; and - Shopping. Conclusion: From the foregoing summary you can see that your Computer Club s Web Site is a useful source of computer-related information. All members are encouraged to make more use of it and to let the Executive members know if you feel that changes and/or additions should be made. ~ 5 ~
