1 Facebook Starter Guide Create a business page Here is a simple step by step process on how to create a Facebook business page and configure the settings 1. To create your page visit 2. Click on Company, Organization, and Institution 3. Choose a category (I suggest small business) 4. Enter your Page Name 5. Select the I agree to the terms box 6. Finally click the Get Started button Here is our video that will help -
2 *Important* When choosing your pages category Do not choose Cause/Community Once your page is create - you will need to configure the settings To change your pages settings - click on the Edit info below your pages name. Now you will be brought to the back end of your site Your Settings I recommend that you select both check boxes. Posting Preferences Posting Preferences simply means anytime you post to you Facebook Business Page - you are posting as the brand. If you post to your Facebook Business Page as an *individual* it will not be appear in your fans newsfeed. Notifications When you select Notifications you will be alerted anytime there is activity on your Facebook Business Page. I highly recommend you select this option, it is very important that you are responsive anytime your fans are interacting with your page.
3 Manage Permissions Page Visibility This setting allows you to make your page public or private. While you are setting up your page, you can select this check box to make it private. When you are ready to promote your page - you can deselect the check box and begin promoting your page. Wall Tab Shows: You have the option of selecting All Post or Only Post by Page. Simply put, when a fan lands on your wall - can they see other post or only the post by the page. I recommend All Post.
4 Default Landing Tab: This setting allows you to set the default landing page non-fans land on when they visit your page. Often time business pages will set up a Welcome Page* as their default landing tab. *Welcome Pages are explained below Posting Ability: By selecting these check boxes - you will be giving your fans the ability to upload photos, write on your wall, and upload videos. I recommend that you select all 3 options. Basic Information Category: Username: You can change your pages category from this page. When you change your pages category - the fields below will change. I recommend choosing Companies & Organizations. Your username is your custom URL. Example You must have 25 fans in order to be able to set up your username. It is important to note
5 Name: Information: that you can never change your username once you set it up. I recommend that you keep it short and descriptive. Here is a video on how to set it up - You can change the name of your page up to 100 fans. If you have more than 100 fans, you cannot change the name of your page. I recommend that you keep the name of your page consistent with your Facebook Custom URL and your brand. Example - Our Facebook Custom URL is - Our page name is The MLS App. Below you will enter in relevant information about your business. At the minimum, I highly recommend that you enter in your phone number, address, and website address.
6 Profile Picture Profile Picture: Use a full size image - 540px tall by 180px wide Make sure you contact information is on your logo (phone, , website) By click on the Edit Thumbnail link - you can adjust the display of your thumbnail. The thumbnail image is what is visible in the newsfeed (see image below)
7 Featured: As a business page - you can showcase other business pages and page admins. By simply selecting Edit Featured Likes - you can select pages to showcase. A great way to use this feature would be to showcase pages that could be helpful for your fans. If you have a page about a community, take the opportunity to support other local business pages and showcase them on your page. Feature Likes and Page Owners are showcased below the page logo.
8 Marketing: Advertise on Facebook: By click on the Advertise on Facebook link you can set up advertising campaigns to promote your page. If you have the resources, I would recommend advertising on Facebook. We will go cover advertising in detail later in the guide. Tell your Fans: Get a Badge: Like Box This is a new feature that allows you to upload your database. When you upload your database, you will send an notification to everyone in your network asking them to Become a Fan of your page. This is a great way to leverage your current network to get more fans. Here is our instructional video - A Badge is a simple image that you can embed on your blog to link back to your business page - I would recommend using the Like Box not a Badge The Like Box is plugin that you can embed in your website/blog. This is a great opportunity to convert your website traffic into Facebook Fans. Your website visitors have the ability to like your page without having to visit Facebook. Here is our instructional video -
9 We recommend using a Like Box over a Page Badge Send an Update: This feature allows you to send a message to all of your fans - I would use this feature sparingly because it can be viewed as spammy if overused.
10 Manage Admins: Manage Admins Apps: You can add and remove page administrators from this section. I would recommend always having 2 administrators for your page, just in case you have issues with your account. Make sure the 2nd administrator is someone you trust because you will be giving them admin privileges to your page...in other words, they can do anything...including deleting your page! Apps: From this page, you can edit your apps, delete apps, and configure the apps that are installed on your page. Later in the guide, we will be giving you instructions on the Essential Apps and how to install them. Here is our instructional video on Apps -
11 Mobile: Mobile: You have the ability to status updates to your designated Facebook . Facebook will automatically post your on your business page. I have never used this feature once. You also have the ability send status updates through Text Messages by setting up your mobile phone...i have not used this feature. Insights: Facebook Insights tracks all of your pages activity - Page growth, impressions, engagement, and several more metrics. Here is our instructional video on Insights -
12 Help Center: Help Center: You can visit the help center to find the answer to common Facebook Questions. You can also visit us at and post on our wall or send us a private message through our contact form.
13 Must Have Facebook Apps ContactME Contact Form App Overview: The ContactMe Facebook app is a great lead capture form. Consumer cannot send a private message to a Facebook Business Page therefore it is vital that you have some contact form. Instructions To get started you must first create your account and custom form. Go to
14 Create an account (it is free!) Go to Settings Click on My Form Next Click the Edit Your Contact Form button Upload your logo and add in all the fields Save Form Next you need to install the contact form Facebook application Go to Click on the add to my page link (on the left hand side) Next go back to your business page and click on the Contact app that you just added Sign in to your account to activate the form and you re done! 15 App Overview: I consider this a must have app for your Facebook business page. I personally love this application because it allows me to provide great content directly to my fans via and build a deeper relationship. A really interesting statistic is that the visitors who come to our blog through our marketing campaign visit over 8 pages on average, that is almost triple the norm. Instructions Set up your Free Mailchimp account 1. Go to to sign up 2. Click on the Lists tab (between campaign and reports) 3. Select Create New List 4. Fill in the form and save 5. Under your list you will see the link to create a form select create form *** this is going to be your lead capture form for Facebook*** 6. Create the form and save 7. Log out of Mailchimp (don t forget this step) 8. Login to Facebook 9. Go to the mailchimp application Beneath their logo select add to my page 11. Go to your business page 12. Select Edit page 13. Go to the application on the left hand side 14. Under the Mailchimp app select go to application 15. Select the list that you set up earlier and save Here is our instructional video -
16 Static HTML: iframe tabs App Overview: This is a very simple application that allows you to create your own Welcome Tab. According to Brandblue - Facebook Pages with a Welcome Tab are twice as likely to convert a visitor into a fan then pages without a Welcome Tab.
