1 Instructors: How to grade using Turnitin App 1. This image displays the screen after navigating to the Dropbox area from the navbar. You can do so through Safari or another browser with your mobile device. (D2L does not have an app itself). As the instructor, click on the name of the dropbox you plan to grade.

2 2. The above image displays the list of students and the documents they submitted for that specific dropbox. Click on the percentage to open the Turnitin interface. The image to the left displays how the student s document appears when opened within the Turnitin interface. On the bottom left, click the 2 nd icon (mobile device icon) and choose generate code. Instructors may then use this code within the Turnitin app.

3 3. After downloading and opening the Turnitin app, you may be asked the following questions (as shown to the left). You would need to select that you use the Turnitin version over the TurnitinUK and that you currently access Turnitin through the integrated LMS (this will allow your scores to be synced back to the LMS [D2L]). 4. The instructor will then need to choose access code (as shown above) and provide the access code derived. Then choose add. This will add the access to the class and papers based upon that generated access code.

4 5. The instructor will then be able to view the dropboxes associated with that class to the left of the Turnitin app interface (as shown below). The instructor will click on the name of the dropbox to see the list of students who have submitted a paper. Instructors will not see student names here, but user numbers. (This is why it is important for students to have names on their typed papers.) To open the paper, select the user bar. The number on the left side (ie- 89 ) indicates the score and the number on the right side (ie- 97%) indicates the match percentage). *Note: Instructors can add other classes by selecting the person icon in the upper right and providing the access code. They can switch classes by choosing classes on the far left. 6. Within the app, make sure to click the upper right i icon (as shown above) and turn on (green) the sync submissions feature. This ensures that the grading occurring within the app is synced to D2L.

5 Click on the specific match to view more information about it- including the specific wording that matched the paper. (as shown to the right). 7. Click on the percentage in the upper right to view the originality report (as shown on the left). A dropdown will appear with the matches. These matches will be correlated with colorcoding to the matches on the paper (shown behind it.)

6 8. To add GradeMark notes on the paper, the instructor should click on the area on the paper he/she would like to add notes. A floating Grademark menu will appear (as shown on the left). To use present QuickMarks, select QM. A textbox will appear allowing the instructor to choose the QuickMark he/she would like to use as well as provide personalized text. Choose save in the upper right corner (as shown below.) The students will then see a voicebox icon. He/she can select it to open the comment.

7 9. Instructors can also add personally created comments that are not preset by Grademark. As shown to the left, the instructor would select the 2 nd icon (speech bubble) on the floating toolbar. The instructor could then provide the comments and select the upper left corner icon to save that newly established comments as a preset QuickMark (to be used again later).

8 10. In the upper right corner of the screen, (as shown above) the instructor can select the grade area to add the student s grade for the paper. This will open the grading interface (as shown above). The instructor can then provide/edit the grade in the upper left corner. The instructor can also leave a voice comment and/or typed general comments for the paper. This would be an overall statement (verses the specific comments through GradeMark.)

Instructors will still need to pull their grades in from the Turnitin interface to the D2L gradebook. *Remember when using the Turnitin app, instructors must sync their grading so that it is transferred into D2L (see step 6).* As shown on the left, instructors should navigate to the dropbox area and select Evaluate Submission beside the student s paper and match percentage.

10 12. On the far left side (as shown above) instructors will need to select Use this score under the Markup Document. This will place the score in the evaluation area and once saved, into the gradebook. Note: Turnitin General comments are not pulled into the Feedback area in D2L, so the instructor may choose to put a note under Feedback in D2L indicating to view the Turnitin interface for notes.
