1 IBM Cognos Report Studio: Author Active Reports allows students to build on their Report Studio experience by using active report controls to build highly interactive reports that can be consumed by users. The following example is an abstract from the IBM Cognos Report Studio: Author Active Reports (V10.1) one-day training course, available in a classroom or online environment. The iterator control has five components (first, previous, label area, next, and last) which lets the user easily navigate through pages of information. You can set the property for each of these components to either Hide or Show. The label area can display a drop-down list, text value, numeric value, or page dots, which are used on an ipad tablet to indicate multiple pages. To enable the swiping gesture that is native to the ipad, do the following: Ensure that the iterator and deck controls are driven by the same variable values. Define the Slide Animation Direction on the deck control. Set the First, Previous, Next and Last iterator properties to Hide. Only the Label Area should be set to Show. Set the Select UI property to Page Dots Indicator.

Consumers can access Active Reports with the IBM Cognos Mobile ipad application. For objects whose data can be difficult to select on a touch interface (i.e. maps), provide an alternate control (i.e. drop-down list). Use the Iterator control with a Deck control to enable the swipe gesture that is native to the ipad tablet IBM Corporation Using the optimal screen sizing for an ipad tablet improves the end user experience by ensuring that the entire report is visible. Ensure that all objects and containers are sized properly. If an object is larger than its container, the container will be pushed out and the entire report layout will be affected. Large objects (such as lists) in a smaller block can result in scrollable data. To remain consistent with ios standards, scrollable areas do not have visible scroll bars. End users should be made aware of this functionality. Page dots have default colors (Dot Color and Active Dot Color) that you can change if the background color, or image, is too similar , 2012, IBM Corporation

5 CREATE AN ACTIVE REPORT FOR USE ON IPAD TABLETS Demo: Create an Active Report for use on ipad tablets Purpose: Create an active report with a data iterator control that interacts with a data deck to make use of the swiping gesture that allows the user to navigate between pages on an ipad tablet. Server: localhost:88 User/Password: brettonf/education1! Studio: Report Studio Package: Go Data Warehouse (query) Report Type: Active Report Folder: Sales and Marketing (query) Namespace: Sales (query) Task 1. Create an Active Report. 1. From the Toolbox tab, drag a Table to the report area, and set the number of columns to 2 and rows to Click anywhere in the Table. 3. In the Properties title bar, click the Select Ancestor button, and click Page. 4. Under Positioning, set Size & Overflow as follows: Height: 704 Width: From the Toolbox tab, drag a Data Deck to the middle right table cell. 6. Click the Source tab, and then drag Products Product line to the Values drop zone. 7. From the Toolbox tab, drag a Chart to the Data Card drop zone, select the default Pie Donut chart, and then click OK. 8. From the Source tab, drag Sales fact Quantity to the Default measures drop zone, and drag Products Product types to the Series (pie slices) drop zone. 2012, 2012, IBM Corporation 5

Point to Query Explorer and rename the queries as follows: Query1 Data_Deck_Query Query2 Pie_Chart_Query 12. Point to Page Explorer, and then click Page Select the Pie Chart, and then from the Data menu, click Master Detail Relationships. 14. Click New Link, select Product line from both queries, and then click OK. This creates a new link between the data deck and the pie chart based on Product line. Task 2. Add an iterator to enhance report navigation. 15. From the Toolbox tab, right-click a Data Iterator object, and drag it to the table cell above the data deck. When you right-click a control and drag it into the report area, a prompt appears asking whether you want to simply insert the control, or insert it using an existing query. 16. Click Insert using an existing query, select Data_Deck_Query, and click OK. If you select the data iterator control you will see that the Query property is set to Data_Deck_Query in the Properties pane. 17. From the Data Items tab, drag Data_Deck_Query Product line to the Values drop zone for the data iterator. 18. Repeat the step above to add Product line to the Label drop zone. 19. Select the Data Iterator control, and change Name property to Iterator_DropDown_List , 2012, IBM Corporation

Beside the data iterator control, click Create a New Connection, and specify the connection with the following entries: Iterator_DropDown_List Select Data Deck1 Data Item (left): Product line Data Item (right): Product line Active Report Variable: vproduct line 21. From the Active Report Variables tab, expand vproduct line, and then click Set Default Value(s). 23. Under Values, click Camping Equipment, and click the green arrow to add it to the Selected values list, and then click OK. 24. Run the report, and use the Next and Last buttons to navigate through the product lines. Task 4. Add animation to a deck to enable swiping. On ipad tablets, page dots indicate that multiple pages exist, which a user can navigate by using swiping gestures. When authoring reports, you can use data decks to organize multiple pages of data that the consumer can easily navigate through. To do this, you must animate the deck, and set up the interactive behavior so that the deck uses the same variable as the one that selects the cards. 25. Close the browser window displaying the report. 26. Copy the Data Iterator control, paste it into the bottom table cell, and then set the Name property to Iterator_Dot_Swipe. 27. Set the Iterator First, Iterator Previous, Iterator Next and Iterator Last properties to Hide. 28. Within Iterator_Dot_Swipe, select the Iterator Label Area, and change the Select UI property to Page Dots Indicator. 29. Select the Data Deck control, and set the following properties: Slide Animation Direction: Auto Horizontal Set Variable Values: Product line , 2012, IBM Corporation

Under Access code, enter a code value of 1234, and click OK. 33. Run the report. 34. When prompted, enter the access code of 1234, and click OK. The report is only accessible after entering the correct access code.
