Rowan University: How To Documentation 4 Choose a site here and click Submit. Cascade CMS Basics Cascade CMS will be used to manage your website content. A few areas that you will need to become familiar with in Cascade CMS are the Dashboard, Site dropdown, the Site Content tree, and Search. Dashboard The Dashboard is meant to provide you with an overview of different actions and reports relevant to content in sites that you have permission to access. The Dashboard is a onestop place for the creation and management of your content, with movable widgets to set your own personal workflow. To move a widget, click on the menu bar, hold, and drag anywhere on the screen.

Rowan University: How To Documentation 5 Most of your content is right in front of you and not specific to one site. To show content from only one site, locate the Filter Dashboard option in the upper right corner of your Dashboard and choose your site. The Dashboard will refresh, with your site-specific content showing. To erase your filter, click Reset Dashboard. Your Dashboard widget positions will revert to stock positioning. To add other widgets, click Add Widget in the upper right corner.

Rowan University: How To Documentation 6 Choose the widget(s) you want on your Dashboard by clicking on the plus (+) sign. What is a site?

Rowan University: How To Documentation 7 Sites allow administrators to section off major parts of large websites like rowan.edu, and give custom permissions to different users in those different sections. Once logged in, at the top of the screen, you will see the site dropdown. You will only see sites that you have permission to in that dropdown. Your site dropdown may therefore have different sites than your co-worker s site dropdown. We will cover how to see where your content changes can be seen on the live website in the Publishing Content section. Navigating to your site In the top left section of Cascade CMS, you will see a dropdown with options for selecting different sites. Select a site from the site dropdown. If looking for a specific site, the search bar above the site listing can be used to quickly locate it. Type a few characters into the box and the list will only show matching sites.

Rowan University: How To Documentation 8 Navigating within your site Now that you are in your site, you will want to familiarize yourself with the Site Content tree. The Site Content tree allows you to organize your content into folders with similar topics or content. The Site Content tree can be used to improve the SEO (Search Engine Optimization) for your website by incorporating the names of parent folders and pages into the web URL or web address of your page. This means that if you organize your content by topic in your site, the page URLs should reflect those topics, making them more visible to search engines and SEO friendly. Select the blue button under the Cascade CMS logo to expand the Site Content tree if it is not already expanded.

Rowan University: How To Documentation 9 Note: In the mobile view of Cascade CMS, you will need to select the menu option in the top left corner and then select Site Content. Note: If you are in the full Desktop view, you will have some additional functionality that may not be allowed on a mobile device. For instance, you can click on folder icons to get a quick preview of content within the folder without having to actually move into the folder. Users can format content into various headings, blockquotes, and divs. It is strongly recommended that editors only use headings for content that are truly headings and not just for styling content. Headings are powerful tools for Search Engine Optimization and accessibility. Many screen readers are able to jump from heading to heading to allow users to more easily skip from section to section of the webpage. If headings are inappropriately utilized, this could mislead or confuse users who rely on screen readers.
