7 FERPA Certification: What & Why Family Educational Rights & Privacy Act (FERPA) governs access to students Education Records Federal Law and Purdue University policies require FERPA Certification (annual) before you can access student records on Vista min. training/certification can be completed online. 8 Academic Campus: Access Each semester, Banner generates Blackboard classes for all for-credit classes on the West Lafayette Academic Campus If you are listed by your scheduling deputy as the instructor, you will automatically be enrolled as instructor/designer Students are automatically enrolled Drops display as unenrolled
9 Academic Campus: Enrollment Banner-generated Instructor: see your scheduling deputy Add Instructor, TA, Designer Application Click on Add an Instructor, TA or Designer to your Section Students/Auditors: through Registrar ONLY *West Lafayette Academic Campus only
10 Cross-listing classes when you want to populate multiple rosters of students into one Vista class before you apply content to your Banner class (more on that later) must be done by a Blackboard Instructor or Course Roster Viewer must be applied to Blackboard classes that have at least one Blackboard Instructor in common Add a cross-list tool Click on Cross List Banner Sections (combine multiple sections into one)

12 Clear Browser Cache & Cookies Firefox: 1. In the Tools menu, click Clear Recent History. 2. In the drop-down next to Time range to clear select Everything 2. Check the following boxes only: Cookies Cache Active Logins 3. Click the Clear Now button. Internet Explorer: 1. In the Tools menu, click Internet Options. 2. In the General tab, click the Delete Cookies & Delete Cache button. IE 8.0: Click the Delete button in the Browsing history section of the General tab.
13 Online apps: Common Problems If you get an error or the request page doesn t work: 1. Switch to another web browser. If you are using IE, switch to Firefox, or vice versa. 2. Clear your browser cache and cookies then try again. Incidentally, if you re having trouble logging in to Blackboard, clear saved passwords, too

20 Roles and Tabs Users who have both Instructor and Designer roles will see all tabs. Users assigned the Section Designer role only will see the Build and Student View tabs. Likewise users assigned the Section Instructor role will see the Teach and Student View tabs.
21 Activity: Add Headers & Footers To add or edit a header or footer: 1. Go to the Home Page or the Folder you which you wish to edit the header. 2. From the Page Options Action Links menu, select Edit Header. The Create/Edit Header screen appears. 3. Select Enable HTML Creator. 4. In the HTML Creator editing area, enter the content and/or select the image that you want to appear in the header or footer. 5. Click Save.
22 Activity: Add Tools to the Course Menu 1. From Designer Tools, click Manage Course. The Manage Course screen appears. 2. Click Tools. The Tools screen appears. There is a checkmark next to those that already appear on Course Tools. 3. Select the tools that you want to add and click Save. The tools are added to Course Tools.

25 Add a Web Link To add a Web Link: 1. From Course Tools, click Web Links to display the tool s inventory of any existing Web Links.
26 Add a Web Link 2. Click Create Web Link. The Create Web Link screen appears.
27 Activity: Web Links Click on Web Links in the Course Menu Click Create Category Give the Category a Title and Description Allow Student Permissions Save Click Create Web Link Give the link a Title and Description Make the item Visible Type in the full web address Select a Category for the Link Save
28 Add a Folder To create a folder: 1. From the Home Page, click Create Folder. 2. Enter a Title and optional description on the Create Folder screen. 3. Click Save. The folder is added to the Home Page.
