2 Introduction There are many ways to create one or more great looking Photo Albums on a website. The way these albums are managed can differ greatly. Why not take the fast way and use something that is free and easy to use? Flickr! This tutorial describes the steps to create a Flickr Photo Album on your website with the use of the Feed Ticker extension. 1. Creating a Yahoo account 2. Creating a Flickr account 3. Adding images to Flickr account 4. Choosing Flickr Feed 5. Setting up Feed Ticker 6. Using Behaviors 1. Creating a Yahoo account To be able to use Flickr, a new Flickr account has to be created. This can only be done, if you already have a Yahoo ID. If you do not have a Yahoo! ID, create one first. Go to and click the Sign Up link in the top right of the page. Complete all the steps to create a new account. Skip this step if you already have a Yahoo! ID. 2. Creating a Flickr account Once a new Yahoo! ID has been created or if you already have a Yahoo! ID, a Flickr account can be created. Go to and click the Create Your Account button in the top right corner. A page appears where you can Sign in to Yahoo!. Page 2 of 12

3 Enter your Yahoo! ID and Password and click the Sign In button. Enter a Flickr screen name and click the Create a new account button. Skip this step if you already have a Flickr account. Page 3 of 12

4 3. Adding images to Flickr account After the login to Flickr, your personal homepage appears. Either click the Upload your first photos (Step 2) or the Upload Photos & Video link. Click the Choose photos and videos link under Step 1. Browse to the folder that contains the photos to upload. Select the photos and confirm the selection by clicking the Open button. Page 4 of 12

5 The selected images are added to the upload window. To be able to use these photos in a photo album on an external site, the Set privacy option has to be kept at Public. Setting other options is possible, but not needed to reach the result of this article. Click the Upload Photos and Videos button to start uploading. Once all of the selected photos have been uploaded, a Finished message will appear. Click the Add a description link to add information to the uploaded photos. The page that is openen, containd multiple different sections. In the upper part Batch operations can be set. The Add Tags option will set the added tags to all the photos. Tags can be entered in the form field and need to be separated by a space. Page 5 of 12

6 The Add to a Set option allows you to save your photos into multiple parts. Click the Create a new set link in the top right corner. Enter the name of the new set in the Name your new set field. You can also enter a short text in the Give it a description area. Save the new set by clicking the Create set button. The new set is automatically selected for the present photos. Page 6 of 12

7 In the part named Titles, descriptions, tags you can set a Title, a Description and Tags for each photo. The tags per photo are added to the tags that were already added in the Batch operations section. Click the Save button to save all settings. An overview of all the recently added photos with their settings will be shown. If a set was selected, this specific part of your photostream will be shown. If no set was selected, the general photostream will be opened. Page 7 of 12

8 When a set was opened, the general photostream can be reached by clicking the account name in the top left corner. 4. Choosing Flickr Feed Once photos have been added into your Flickr account, they are immediately available in several RSS Feeds. Latest From the page called Your photostream the first feed is available. This feed shows the latest photos that were added to your account. Towards the bottom of this page, the text Subscribe to <Your Accountname> s photostream is present. Right click the Latest link and choose Copy Shortcut or click the Latest link and copy the address from your browsers address bar. Per set When a set is opened, a feed for the specific content of that set is available. At the same location as above, a Feed link is present.use the same method to get the feed s address. 9 Per tag When the option has been activated to show all the photos containing a specific tag, there is also a corresponding RSS Feed for that view. Look for the Latest link at the bottom of the page. 5. Setting up Feed Ticker Start the Feed Ticker extension from the DMXzone tab on the Object bar or select Insert, DMXzone, Feed Ticker from the menu. On the Feeds tab, click the Add feed button in the Current Feeds section. Enter a title for this new feed in the Feed Title field. Paste the Flickr RSS Feed address into the Feed URL field. An example of the feed with standard settings will be shown in the Preview section. Page 9 of 12

11 In the Look and Feel, Behavior and Animation sections, further settings can be made to determine the way the Feed is shown on the page. You can set what and how the items are displayed, which size, how many items are fetched and how many are shown. Also it is possible to set the effect for the transition of the items. Click on the Refresh button to update the Preview on the right side. After OK is clicked, the extension will be added to the page. Upload the files, that are mentioned in the message, to your live server for the Feed Ticker to function the correct way. When the placeholder for the extension is selected, several settings can be changed in the Property Inspector. After all settings are OK, save your page and upload it to your live server. Preview the result. 6. Using Behaviors The Property Inspector holds a Behaviors link. By clicking the blue paperclip the DMXzone Behavior Connector will be started. With this Behavior Connector you will be able to add other behaviors to you Feed Ticker. Events that are available to chose from are When all the feeds are loaded, Before the current slide appears and After the current slide appears. The Available Behaviors to choose from are on the left side of the window. First select an event in the Available Events section. Then select a behavior from the Available Behaviors section and click the blue arrow in the middle. Now fill the necessary settings for the choosen behavior and confirm them. Clicking OK will close the Behavior Connector. Now save the page, upload it and view it on your live server. Page 11 of 12

12 Using the Behavior Connector is not necessary. Without any behaviors added, the Flickr Photo Album will show on your page. By clicking on an image, the photo will show on the Flickr website. Page 12 of 12
