6 6 LMS User Guide Chapter 1: Introduction Overview With Synergy LMS, teachers access everything they need in one place using LMS pages: Curriculum Elements Assessments Curriculum Maps Assignments Student work Performance analytics Digital resources Classroom management tools Synergy LMS allows teachers to create web pages that contain the curriculum for the their classes. The LMS pages can be made visible in ParentVUE and StudentVUE and replace Class Websites. The hierarchy for LMS content is: Library > Book > Page > Panel. When you access the LMS, a default library opens that contains the necessary components for the page. Rename the Default Library, Default Book, and Default Page to names you want to use using the menus. LMS Menus Accessing LMS To access the LMS, navigate to Synergy SIS > LMS > LMS. Users with access to Grade Book, access the LMS pages from the LessonVUE menu. A LMS page opens in viewing mode: The viewing mode menus are: Indicates editing is turned off. 8 8 LMS User Guide Chapter 1: Introduction Formatting Window This section describes the formatting window used to create curriculum templates and content for curriculum elements. The formatting uses a CKEditor. Curriculum Template, Formatting Window The formatting and editing tools available for creating templates and content are: Source Toggles the view between WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) and HTML editing mode. When editing in HTML, the HTML tags such as <p> or <b> are shown. For example: A heading using the Heading 1 style would appear <h1>heading</h1>. New Page clears unsaved changes Preview previews the template design Cut, Copy and Paste cuts, copies, or pastes the selected text Paste as Plain Text pastes the text as plain text with no formatting. This is helpful when copying from other programs which may have hidden HTML formatting, such as other web pages or Microsoft Outlook. Paste From Word inserts text copied from Microsoft Word and allows you to edit the text to remove erroneous HTML code that Microsoft Word inserts. a. Paste the text in the pop-up box. b. Check the box to Remove Styles definitions. c. Click OK. Paste From Word Box Undo and Redo undo the last action, or redo the last action Edupoint Proprietary and Confidential

9 LMS User Guide Chapter 1: Introduction 9 Find - searches for text Find And Replace Box, Find Tab Replace - replaces text Find And Replace Box, Replace Tab Select All - selects all content in the formatting window Bold, Italic, Underline or Strikethrough formats the selected text as bold, italic, underline, or strikethrough Subscript and Superscript inserts subscript or superscript text Remove Format clears all formatting for the selected text Insert/Remove Numbered or Bulleted List format the selected paragraphs as numbers or bullets Increase or Decrease Indent, Outdent indent or outdent the selected paragraph. Align Left, Center, Align Right, or Justify Insert or Remove Hyperlink insert or remove a link to a website or address Anchor inserts a place that you can link to inside the template Table inserts a table Insert Horizonal Line inserts a horizontal line Insert Special Character inserts a special character such as a copyright mark or currency symbol Select Special Character Box Text Style select a built-in format for the selected text Paragraph Style select a built-in format for the selected paragraph Font select a font for selected content Size select a font size for selected content Text Color Background Color Maximize maximizes the editing window Show Blocks shows content inside of blocks Edupoint Proprietary and Confidential

16 16 LMS User Guide Managing Libraries A Library is the main repository for all of the content. It contains books which contain pages which contain panels. 1. Click. 2. Select a library under Switch Library. Switch Library 3. Manage your libraries: To add a library: a. Select Add New Library from. Adding A Library b. Enter the New Library Name. c. Click. Click To delete a library: Libraries that are shared to ParentVUE, cannot be deleted. Remove sharing from the library before deleting. a. With the library selected, select Delete Library from. 18 18 LMS User Guide Changing Libraries 1. Click. 2. Select a library under Switch Library. Switch Library Sharing to ParentVUE You can customize the images that display for the libraries. You can use the school and your picture for homeroom class libraries and subject related pictures for subject/course libraries. 1. With a library selected, select the checkbox next to the course or subject. The images display. 2. (Optional) Change the images: To change the teacher s picture: a. Click. 27 LMS User Guide 27 To share pages within your district: a. Click. Sharing Settings b. Type a keyword in the search box. This search uses dynamic filters. Depending on the keyword you enter, the following groups display: Users Courses Departments Grade Level User Groups Schools c. Make selections from displayed options. 36 36 LMS User Guide Streams Discussion Only one Streams discussion is allowed per page. 1. Select. 2. Select who can see and post to the discussion using the checkboxes: Parents Students Group is Public - Select to allow other Streams users to search the Streams Group. 3. Use the filters to search for people to add to the conversation. 4. Select names from the Search Results and drag them to the Group Members box. 5. Click Save/Add to Page. 37 LMS User Guide 37 Video/Image and Text 1. Select. 2. Select media. Click to select media from a website. a. Enter the URL. b. Select the Alignment. c. Click OK. d. Enter and format the content for the video or image. Click to upload an image. a. Choose the file. b. Click Upload. c. Enter and format the content for the video or image. Click to select YouTube content. A window appears for searching of YouTube content. a. Use Keyword Search to find YouTube content. b. Click a video to select and preview the desired YouTube content. c. Click to embed the content into the LMS Panel. Requires Google Drive. 3. Click Save/Add to Page. 39 LMS User Guide 39 Viewing Curriculum Elements To view elements once they are created: 1. From the LessonVUE menu, select Curriculum Elements. Teachers see a list of all available elements on the Curriculum Elements page based on the last search performed. The elements are outlined in the color that matches the template used to create the element. The search defaults to course/grade level. Curriculum Elements 2. (Optional) Set the Options from the drop down menu. Select the type of keyword search. Curriculum Elements, Options Any Keywords Finds all instances with the keyword. All Keywords Finds all instances that contain all the keywords entered. The order is not used. Exact Phrase Finds all instance that contain the exact words in the exact order. 40 40 LMS User Guide 3. To change the results displayed, type a keyword into the Search field. By default, the elements are sorted by Best Reviews First with the best reviews at the top of the list: Click Newest First to show the elements in the order in which they were created. Click Element Type to show the elements listed by type of element in alphabetical order. Click Element Title to show the elements listed by their titles in alphabetical order. Click Next or Previous to navigate through the list of displayed elements. Click Show Filters to display the filters. The filters displayed relate to the keyword entered. 4. To narrow results: a. Select and deselect the filters. Grade to show elements associated with a specific grade Course - to show element associated with a specific course Element Type to show elements of a particular type Status to show the elements at a certain point in the approval process. This is helpful for staff involved in the review process so they can see only the elements that are waiting for approval. Authors to show elements created by specific authors. Element Standards to show all the elements aligned to a specific standard Elements to show specific elements Resources to show elements that have specific documents or web links attached. Materials to show the elements using a particular item b. Click Show Results to view all curriculum elements that apply to the filter. The Curriculum Elements screen displays with the filtered results showing: who created it the objectives of the elements other key information about the element such as element type, item status, subject, and duration a summary of the standards covered in each element Edupoint Proprietary and Confidential

41 LMS User Guide 41 c. Click Save Search to save the filters for searches you plan to do often. Curriculum Elements Screen, Show Filters 5. Select the title of the element to view the element. If you have editing rights, the create curriculum window opens. In the upper left-hand corner of the child element, a <Parents> drop-down displays all parent elements to which this child element belongs. Select a parent element from the drop-down. The parent item opens for editing or viewing, depending on the security of the element. Curriculum Element Screen The child elements are listed under Child Elements.
