1 Country Communication Pages Lesson 3: Customizing Articles Lesson 3 There are a few ways you can customize articles. In this lesson, you will learn how to: Insert images, videos, tables, and links. Add an image gallery or video at the top of an article. Use preview, comments, and other article options. Contents Inserting Items in an Article... 1 Adding an Image Gallery or Video... 8 Using Article Options Using Article Content Buttons Inserting Items in an Article You can customize articles by inserting images, videos, tables, and links. Videos can be either uploaded onto Brightcove, the video management system used by the Church, or referenced from YouTube. You can send a video to the Web Publishing team, and they will upload the video onto Brightcove. The Web Publishing team will then send you the information you need to use the video. 1. To edit an article, click the Edit button to open the menu, and select Edit [article name] In the Content box, there are several buttons you can use to edit article content. 2 Country Communication Pages November by Intellectual Reserve, Inc. 2 Inserting Images 3. Click in the Content box to position the cursor where you want to place the image, and then click the Insert Image button ( image. ). Select or add an 3 BC stands for Binary Content which includes images. 4. In the Content box, click the image, and then click the Styles drop-down list, and select Img Right or Img Left To add an image caption, in the Content box, right-click on the image, and select Image Properties. 6. 3 Inserting Video 7. In the Content box, create a new paragraph or line for the video, and then click the Insert Brightcove Video button ( ) In the video selection window, the appropriate language and country should be displayed. If they are not, you can select the correct option using the drop-down list. Then click Create New. 9. For a download version, under Download URLs, click Add, and enter the URL for the download version For a Brightcove video, enter the following information: Brightcove Video ID Brightcove Player Key Brightcove Player ID Title (The title is what you use to search for the video; it also appears as a caption under the video.) 4 11. For a YouTube video, enter the following: Title (The title is what you use to search for the video; it also appears as a caption under the video.) YouTube Id. From the YouTube URL, copy the part after watch?v=. For example, for this YouTube URL ch?v=p9nuocj8rcu, use P9nUOCJ8rcU as the YouTube Id. 12. Add the video length in minutes and seconds, separated by a colon, such as 2: At the bottom, click Save. 14. In the video selection window, click Search. A list of video titles will be displayed. 15. To select a video, click Select. 16. 5 Inserting Tables 17. Click in the Content box to position the cursor where you want to place the table, and then click the Table button ( ). 18. Enter the desired number of rows and columns. 19. Click the Headers drop-down list, and select the desired style of header Click the Alignment drop-down list, and select how you want the text aligned. 21 Note: You can also add a caption, if desired. 21. Then click OK. 22. Fill in the table information. Header styles (The following images show examples of how different header styles affect the appearance of the table. The first image in each pair shows the table being edited in the Content box. The second image shows the final look of the table after being published on the website.) Highlight the text (where you want to create the link), and then click the Link button ( ) Click the Link Type drop-down list, and select the desired type of link. 7 25. For a URL link, select the protocol, such as or Enter the URL, and click OK. Note: To link to an internal website page, use a relative path, such as /getting-started-with-family-history For an link, enter the address, and click OK. 27 \5 28. An anchor indicates a spot within the article text you would like to link to. Click in the Content box to position the cursor where you want to place the anchor (where you want the link to go to), and then click the Anchor button ( ) Enter an anchor name, and click OK. 30. Highlight the text that will become the link, and click the Link button ( ). Select Link to anchor in the text. 31. 8 32. Save and preview the article. When the article has received Intellectual Property and Correlation approval, publish the article. Adding an Image Gallery or Video An article can start with no image, one image, several images (an image gallery), or a video. Image Gallery 1 1. On the article page, click the first Edit button to open the menu, and select Add Image Gallery Add a name for the image. 3. Click Search to add an image. 4. Enter the alt text and image caption, if desired. Note: To add another image, at the top of the page, click Add. Add as many images as desired. 5. When you are finished, click Save. 9 6. The image gallery appears above the article with one large image on top, and the other images underneath. To view another image, click on the image. Note: If there was an image at the top of the article, it will still be there, underneath the image gallery. To hide the image, edit the article, and click the option to hide the image on the article page. 7. When the images have received Intellectual Property and Correlation approval, at the top of the image, click the Edit button to open the menu, and select Publish. Video To add a video on the article page, click the second Edit button to open the menu, and select Add Article Video Add a name or title for the video. 10 10. For a Brightcove video, enter the Brightcove ID, player ID, and player key. For a YouTube video, enter the YouTube ID Select the video type, either Brightcove or YouTube. 12. Add the video duration in minutes and seconds, separated by a colon, such as 2: Indicate whether you want the video to automatically start when the page appears. 14. For a download version, under download item, click Add, and enter the URL for the download version Click Save. Then click Done. 16. When the video has received Intellectual Property and Correlation approval, at the top of the video, click the Edit button to open the menu, and select Publish. 16 Note: If there was an image at the top of the article, it will still be there, underneath the video. To hide the image, edit the article, and click the option to hide the image on the article page. 11 Preview Preview allows you to view what the article would look like in various devices, from a desktop computer to a mobile device Select the device. 2. For a mobile device, select either portrait or landscape view. 3. Scroll down to see how the article would appear. 2 Publishing Publishing allows you to set a specific date and time in the future when this article should be published as well as a future unpublish date. You can also see basic document information such as the URI, status, locale, and a TGP count (for translation purposes). Translations Translations shows the status of translations for this article. 12 History History provides a log of changes to the article, including who created the article or made the change along with the date the change was made. Versions Versions displays the current and previous published versions of an article, in case you need to review what was previously published. Follow This Content 4. Clicking Follow This Content will notify you via if the content is changed or updated. 4 Using Article Content Buttons The LDS Publisher editing tool is a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) rich-text editor. This means that the text shown in the editor looks similar to the text end users will see after the document is published. LDS Publisher allows you to edit and format the text using a number of buttons above the Content box. The buttons and their functions are explained below. 13 Undo Redo Find Replace Remove Format This undoes the last change that was made to the text. This restores a change that was previously undone. This searches within the content for words you specify. This searches within the content for words you specify and replaces them with the text you specify. This removes any formatting from the selected text. Add Brightcove Video Add Brightcove Gallery Insert Image (Binary Content) Link Remove Link Insert Anchor Decrease Indent Increase Indent Block Quote Create DIV Container This adds a Brightcove or YouTube video. This adds a Brightcove gallery. This uploads and inserts images. This creates clickable hyperlinks or addresses. This removes the hyperlink or link from the selected text. This inserts an anchor in the text. This decreases text indentation. This increases text indentation. This formats a block of text as an indented quotation. 14 Align Left Center Align Right Justify Bold Italic Underline Strike through Subscript Superscript Insert/Remove Numbered List Insert/Remove Bulleted List Insert Table Insert Horizontal Line Set Padding This sets the text alignment to left. This sets the text alignment to center. This sets the text alignment to right. This sets the text alignment to justified. This applies bold formatting to the text. This applies italic formatting to the text. This applies underline formatting to the text. This applies strike through formatting to the text. This applies subscript formatting to the text. This applies superscript formatting to the text. This creates or removes a numbered list. This creates or removes a bulleted list. This creates a table. This inserts a horizontal line. 15 Set Margin Formatting Styles Paragraph Format Font Size Insert Special Character Em Dash En Dash Left Curly Quote Right Curly Quote This inserts margin space surrounding a block element s border, such as a table. This formats images to the right side or left. This formats paragraphs as headers, body text, and so forth. This changes the font size of the text. This inserts a special character or symbol. This inserts an em dash. This inserts an en dash, which is wider than a hyphen but not as wide as an em dash. This inserts a left curly quotation mark. This inserts a right curly quotation mark.
