1 Thank you for choosing LightHouse! LightHouse is known to work on Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7 Also the 64-bit versions of these operating systems are supported. Currently LightHouse only works with Microsoft Windows and Internet Explorer LightHouse requires at least two independent screens or monitors for presenting. If you wish to control the presentation using a tablet like an ipad or Android device, make sure your presentation PC has wireless (Wi-Fi) access and is on the same network as the tablet device. Then, both the PC and the tablet, must have remote control software installed such as VNC VNC can be found here: LightHouse software is not free in all countries. Please see chapter 6. Index: 1. 2 1. Step-by-step installation: 1. Hardware setup This is what a typical presentation setup could look like: LightHouse requires at least two independent screens or monitors for presenting. Currently LightHouse only works with Microsoft Windows and Internet Explorer Configure the main computer so it has at least two independent monitors, then download the file LightHouse.exe Page 2

3 2. After download, copy the file LightHouse.exe to the desktop of the main computer 3. Double click it. A dialog window appears: Click Yes 4. The End User License Agreement (EULA) window appears: Click Yes to continue Page 3

4 5. The installer will now copy all the necessary files to your computer. When finished successfully, a confirmation window appears: Click OK 6. A folder named LightHouse is created in your Program Folders and four new icons are placed on your desktop: 7. To start using LightHouse, double click the LightHouse icon: Page 4

The main control window appears, as well as two presentation windows. * IMPORTANT: If only one window appears looking like the image below, then your Microsoft Windows security settings prevent LightHouse from functioning properly. Please close this window and go to chapter 4. Troubleshooting to solve this issue. Page 6

7 4. Now drag the green presentation window to the screen that is used for presenting, then maximize it by pressing the [f11] key. 5. Then drag the black Vocal Support window to the vocal support screen. If you do not use a separate vocal support screen, just minimize this window, but do NOT close it, otherwise LightHouse will not function properly. 2. Using LightHouse: 1. Load a song There are two ways to load a song: - Use the Search button ( ) - Use the Browse button ( ) Both buttons are located in the center pane which is the Playlist. there are 10 Search and Browse buttons available for 10 songs. The Search button ( ) opens a search dialog window where you can enter keywords. Try for example Amazing Grace (this song is added to the system as an example) Just click on the result and the song is added to the Playlist. If you then click on Prefetch the lyrics are loaded into the left pane. * IMPORTANT! To update the Search Index File for this function, see page 10 Page 7

Every song looks like this: [number] [title].xml Once the song is selected, it will be added to the playlist. If you then click on Prefetch the lyrics are loaded into the left pane. 2. Using the Playlist Once the playlist is filled with the songs you selected, you can save this list for easy access later. Just click the Save PL button and the Playlist is saved to the desktop. The file is called current_playlist.xml You can rename it if you like. To open a Playlist click OpenPL and to clear the Playlist just click Clear PL Page 8

4. Updating the Search Index File After you have added new songs, you must update the Search Index File. The Search Index File is the file that makes the Search button ( ) work.

This file contains the names, numbers and keywords of all of your songs. So if you add new songs, this file must be updated also. To do that, clik the Index button, right of the Preview window. 11 Now you must add all the directories where your songs are located. To do that, click Select Directory and a new window will appear: If an Internet Explorer Warning window appears, just click Yes to continue. Page 11

You only see directories, and each time you click on one, it will open and show it s contents. Now navigat to the location(s) where your songs are located. Then click Select You can select up to 5 locations. Make sure all your songs are located in the directory C:\Program Files\LightHouse\songs You can create sub folders in there if you want. Page 12

13 5. Change the font type and the font size of the presentation To change the font type and font size of the presentation click the Font button. This opens the Font Selector window: Your settings will be saved for one session only. 6. Change the font color of the presentation To change the font color of the presentation, just click one of the colors of the color picker on the top right: 7. Control the presentation screen Click CLS (Clear Screen) to remove the text, but keep the background image visible Click OFF and the screen turns black. Click ON to return to presentation. Page 13

Play a video If you want to play a video during the presentation, you can preload it by clicking Browse You can play any video that is also playable by Windows Media Player Videos always play at full screen 10. Parent alert system If during a meeting a parent needs to be called, it can be done very subtle, using the Parent Alert System. Each child is given a number and this number is known by the parents When a parent is needed, the number can be entered in the Parent Alert System By clicking Call the entered number will appear on the right bottom of the presentation screen: Page 14

11. Showing photos or advertisements To show photos or other images during a presentation first click the CLS (Clear Screen) button to remove the text from the screen.

Preload your image in one of the eight available spaces: Click Browse and select your image. The image is preloaded and a thumbnail image will appear. The moment you click on the image, it will appear on the main presentation screen. If you want to return to you previously selected background image, click on the ON button: Page 15

18 4. FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions): Q: Will LightHouse become available for other operating systems like MacOS or Linux? A: No. Unfortunately it is only available for Windows now. Q: Why is LightHouse not free in all countries? A: There are costs to develop and support this software. The idea is to let the rich and free countries pay for it, so the software can be given away for free in countries that are developing, or countries where purchasing this software is considered suspicious. Q: How about the copyrights of music? A: For more information about using music, copyrights and licensing, please visit: Q: We have two buildings; can we copy the software so it can be used in both buildings? A: No. The licenses are per building. If you use several rooms in the same building, You can use them simultaneously using one license. Q: Does LightHouse support foreign languages and characters? A: Although LightHouse itself is in English, it does support foreign characters to be displayed in presentation mode. Q: How do I uninstall LightHouse? A: To uninstall LightHouse go to C:\Program Files\LightHouse\files And double click the file uninstall.cmd Page 18
