11 Though GlobalTRACS/Web is a robust system, you may encounter issues related to your system settings, firewalls, and availability of your Internet connection. The tips and troubleshooting information provided in this chapter is intended to provide help on how to first access GlobalTRACS/Web and begin using the application. This chapter is not intended to be an inclusive list of troubleshooting practices. If you encounter problems while using GlobalTRACS/Web, refer to the troubleshooting section of the online help before contacting QUALCOMM s technical support hotline. Tips Try to keep the following in mind as you use GlobalTRACS/Web. You customer service representative can provide additional tips and tricks about how to use GlobalTRACS/Web more efficiently. Be sure that your system is set up as outlined in Setting up GlobalTRACS/Web. Many problems can be avoided by keeping your operating system and browser updated. Try to avoid ambiguous characters when you create passwords and user IDs. Commonly confused characters include: o 1 (the number one), l (lower case L), I (upper case i) o 0 (zero), o (lower case O), O (upper case O) o v (lower case v), V (upper case v), u (lower case u), U (upper case u) To ensure that each user ID is unique, IDs should follow the pattern username@company. Because most web sites and addresses end in.com, many users mistakenly add.com to the end of their user ID when logging in. Tips and Troubleshooting Troubleshooting If you have your system set up correctly and have verified your browser settings you may still encounter problems if there is a firewall between your company and QUALCOMM. A firewall is a security layer that protects your company s network from malicious actions of people not authorized to use your network. Symptom Cannot access the GlobalTRACS/Web site Possible Cause Internet connection may be down Mistyped the URL. Session may have timed out Action to Take Try to view another site. Type another URL, like QUALCOMM s page into the address line of your browser. If you cannot access another site, your Internet connection may be at fault. Check the URL listed in the address line of your browser. Be sure that it reads: Notice that there is an S in https, two Ms and two Ps in qualcommapps, and one M in.com. Wait 10 minutes and try to log in again. If you unsuccessfully attempted to log in five times, you are locked out of the system for 10 minutes. Setting up and troubleshooting Page 6
12 Symptom Can get to the web site, but cannot log in Possible Cause Mistyped user ID or password Action to Take Verify your password and user ID. Your password and ID are case sensitive, and there is no.com after your company name in your ID. Cannot see the entire screen Screen resolution too low If you need additional information about how to use GlobalTRACS/Web, refer to online help. Change your screen resolution to something greater than 800 x 600. For page-specific help, click on that page. For help with procedures or GlobalTRACS concepts, click in the blue GlobalTRACS title bar. If the online help and this training guide were unable to address your needs, contact your customer service representative or call QUALCOMM s technical support hotline at Setting up and troubleshooting Page 7
