3 Pentaho 5.0 Installation Modules/Areas Affected: Reporting Warehouse, Pentaho Report Designer Summary and Expected Outcomes: Accessing the Reporting Warehouse will require Report Designer version 5.0 or another application that uses JDBC connections. These instructions cover downloading, installing, and connecting Report Designer. Who is affected, who will use? Roles/Programs/Lines of Business: Report writers will be affected. Configuration Information: Report Designer must be configured to access Reporting Warehouse after it is installed. This will consist of creating a connection. Why should I use this? Benefits and Efficiencies: Report Designer provides a robust reporting platform that accesses the Reporting Warehouse. Scenarios: Your board needs information from CareLogic presented in usable form to make key business decisions. Report Designer allows you to get this information in the desired form from the Reporting Warehouse. How do I use this? How do I make it work? Workflow Impacts and Dependencies: Qualifacts is transitioning to a Reporting Warehouse for all reporting needs. Access to the Reporting Warehouse can only be made through a reporting application that uses JDBC-type connections. Report Designer is the default application and is supported by Qualifacts. Computer systems will need at least 504 MB of disk space for Report Designer installation. Report Designer is compatible with Microsoft Window XP through 7. Windows 8 has not been fully tested with Pentaho. We recommend a minimum of 4 GB of RAM to run Report Designer. It can run on 2 GB but the performance will be much slower and performance will degrade more with each application running concurrently. Pentaho 5.0 requires the Sun/Oracle version 1.7 distribution of the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) or Java Development Kit (JDK). 3

4 Instructions The instructions cover installation and connection establishment for Pentaho Report Designer. Report Designer is available in 32-bit and 64-bit versions. Determine your system s version of Microsoft Windows to know which version to download. Report Designer Installation You must download the installer to begin the installation process. There are two installers available. Only install the version appropriate for your system. If you have a 64-bit system and want to install the 32-bit system, make sure it is installed in the Program Files (x86) path. Instructions to determine your operating system type are HERE. The 32-bit Report Designer will not run if installed in the Program Files path on 64-bit Windows. The 64- bit Report Designer will not run on32-bit Windows. Make sure you are installing the correct version. Download the 64-bit version HERE. Download the 32-bit version HERE. 1. Find the downloaded installer and right-click on it, then select Run as Administrator. The setup wizard Welcome window will appear. 2. Click Next to continue with installation. The Select Destination window will appear. 4

3. To change the default installation folder, click the Browse button to select a new folder. 4. Once the desired folder is selected, click Next to continue with installation.

The Select Start Menu Folder window will appear. 5. Select a start folder to install to. You may choose not to create a start folder by checking the box in the lower left. 6. Click the Next button. The Ready to Install window will appear. 5

6 7. Click the Install button to begin installation. The Installing window will appear and present a progress bar while installation is occurring. 8. When complete, the Complete window will appear. 9. Click the Finish button to exit the installation wizard. 6

Report Designer Connection Report Designer will need to be connected to the Reporting Warehouse. Once a connection is established Report Designer will remember it for future sessions.

The connection must be selected when building queries. 1. To first create a connection, start Report Designer. 2. Open a new, blank report. It is not recommended to create a connection while in the report wizard. If a connection has not been established, exit the wizard to create one. 3. Add a JDBC data source. The JDBC Data Source window appears. 4. Click the left green + icon to create a new connection. The Database Connection window will appear. 7

Enter CARELOGIC_DS exactly as shown in all caps. 7. Click Test to test the connection. The connection should return an OK. 8

9 8. Click OK to close the message box, then click OK again to close the Database Connection page and save the connection information. Troubleshooting: If the installation does not complete properly, make sure you have administrator rights for the computer on which you are attempting to install the software. If the connection doesn t work, review the JNDI name for errors. All other errors should be reported to Qualifacts Support for research and resolution.
