Register on the Armond Dalton Resources Website To register on the Armond Dalton Resources website, complete the following steps: Click the drop-down next to Sign in and click Register. Register using your school address. Type the name of the university/college you attend, or use the drop-down to locate it. Choose your professor s name from the dropdown list. Note: If your school/professor is not listed, you will not be able to complete your registration until it/they are added. Click University Not Listed or Professor Not Listed and you will be prompted to fill out a form that will be ed to support@armonddaltonresources.com to add your school and professor. E-2 E-Materials: Lab Users / Registration, Data Download, and Creating/Restoring Backups
After your registration is complete, the Student Information window will appear. Locate the Sage 50 Accounting 2017 title; check the box next to the code entry box. Type the One-Time Use Code from the front of your Instructions book into the code entry box. The license code will not be visible until you scratch off the silver coating in the middle of the sticker. Note: Simply use a coin and gently scratch off the silver coating to reveal the code; DO NOT TRY TO REMOVE THE STICKER. Click Verify. E-Materials: Lab Users / Registration, Data Download, and Creating/Restoring Backups E-3
After entering a valid code, you will receive a message that your verification was successful. If the data sets and software link do not appear in the course information area, refresh your browser (F5 or Ctrl+R) and they should appear. Note: Your professor may choose to have you complete your homework on this website. If so, you will receive a Section Code from your professor to enter. This code can be entered at a later time if you have registered before your professor has provided you with a code. Enter the Section code you received from your professor. Note: If you were provided with a section code from your instructor, you will come back to this site when you are ready to submit your online homework. See page E-12 for instructions. Download the Three Initial Company Backup Files The publishers have provided initial backup files for the two Sage 50 sample companies, plus one other company. The other company is Waren Sports Supply (Waren). You will want to download these files to a flash drive so you have clean copies of all companies, should you find it necessary to start over with a specific chapter s requirements. You will also use the initial backup files to load the datasets for Waren on the next page. Temporarily disable any anti-virus protection software. It is very important that you follow this step to ensure that the data sets download correctly. You may have more than one anti-virus program; make sure to disable all versions. If you are unsure of how to disable your anti-virus, a simple internet search can help. Create a folder on a flash drive called Sage 50 Backup Files. Click on the Initial Company Backup Files link located in the course information area of the Armond Dalton Resources website to download the provided data sets. If you are able to select the location to download the initial company backup files, download them to the Sage 50 Backup Files folder that you created. If you are not able to choose the location, they will most likely download to your computer s Downloads file. Extract the Initial Company Backup Files to the Sage 50 Backup Files folder you just created. When properly extracted, the following files should appear in the Sage 50 Backup Files folder: Bellwether Garden Supply.ptb Stone Arbor Landscaping.ptb Waren Sports Supply.ptb Remember this location because you will need these files later. You will use the backup files to load the Waren Sports Supply dataset into Sage 50. Enable your anti-virus protection software. E-4 E-Materials: Lab Users / Registration, Data Download, and Creating/Restoring Backups
Load Waren Sport Supply Dataset into Sage 50 Accounting Armond Dalton has provided you with initial backup files for the three companies that you will need to complete this project. The backup files for Bellwether Garden Supply and Stone Arbor Landscaping are provided for your convenience so that you have a clean backup file for each company. Because Waren Sports Supply is the publisher s company and not a sample company from Sage Software, you will need to load the Waren Sports Supply company into Sage 50 Accounting. Click the Sage 50 Accounting 2017 icon on the desktop. Alternatively, you can click Start g All Programs (or Programs, in other Windows versions) g Sage 50 Accounting 2017 g Sage 50 Accounting Click File g Restore. The Restore Wizard opens to the Select Backup File window shown next. Click the Browse button to locate and select the Waren Sports Supply initial company backup file. If you followed the instructions on page E-4, you will find Waren s backup file in the Sage 50 Backup Files folder on your USB flash drive. If you have done this properly, your window will look similar to the following illustration. E-Materials: Lab Users / Registration, Data Download, and Creating/Restoring Backups E-5
After locating and selecting the Waren initial company backup file, click the Next button. The Select Company window opens next. Because Waren Sports Supply is not in the Sage 50 Accounting program yet, select the Create a new company using the restored data radio button. If you did this properly, your screen will look similar to the one shown next E-6 E-Materials: Lab Users / Registration, Data Download, and Creating/Restoring Backups
Click Next. The Restore Options window opens next with the Company Data check box defaulted. Click Next. This opens the Confirmation window. E-Materials: Lab Users / Registration, Data Download, and Creating/Restoring Backups E-7
After verifying the information in the Backup file and Location boxes and making necessary changes in the Confirmation window, click Finish. A progress window appears on the screen. When the progress window disappears, the restore process is complete. Make Periodic Backups of Companies Sage 50 Accounting has a built-in backup feature in the software. It is recommended that you back up your files after each graded chapter and name the backup files accordingly so that you know which backup to use if you have to start a chapter over again. An example of a descriptive file name for a periodic backup is Bellwether After Ch 6 Trans 2. You will need to use these periodic backup files only if you wish to redo part of the project but not other parts. We suggest storing these periodic backup files in a folder called Sage 50 Periodic Backups in the same location you used for the Sage 50 Backup Files folder. To back up a company file, complete the following steps. Create a folder on your USB flash drive that will store the periodic backup files that you will make throughout this project. Give the folder the following name: Sage 50 Periodic Backups. Open Sage 50 Accounting and the company you wish to create a backup for. Click File g Back Up. The following Back Up Company window opens. E-8 E-Materials: Lab Users / Registration, Data Download, and Creating/Restoring Backups
Click Back Up. The Save Backup window opens. Note that the company name in the window title may be different, depending on which company you are backing up. Select the folder your created earlier for storing the periodic backups in the Save box. Make sure that the location is your USB flash drive. Then change the name in the File name box by typing a descriptive file name, such as Bellwether After Ch 6 Trans 2. Your window should look similar to the following illustration. Click the Save button. The software now gives you a message about the file size for the backup. Click OK. E-Materials: Lab Users / Registration, Data Download, and Creating/Restoring Backups E-9
A progress window appears on the screen. When the progress window disappears, the backup process is finished. Repeat the preceding backup steps as necessary throughout the project and for each company after you complete a work session at a lab computer. It is important that you make frequent periodic backups of all your work. Restore Company Backup Files Whenever your use a lab computer to work on the project, it is important that you restore the data for the company (or companies) you will be working with on the lab computer. The procedures illustrated here are for restoring the three initial backup files, because this is the first step you will need to for each company before you begin any related assignments. The procedures are similar for all future restore situations, the exception being the names of the backup files shown in the window illustrations. Open Sage 50 Accounting and the company you want to restore to. Click File g Restore. The Restore Wizard opens to the Select Backup File window shown below. The illustration is for Stone Arbor Landscaping, so your window will look slightly different if you re restoring a different company. Click the Browse button to locate the backup file you want to restore from. Be sure to select the location where the backup files are stored (your USB flash drive). After locating and selecting the correct backup file you want to use for the restore process, click the Next button. The Select Company window opens next. E-10 E-Materials: Lab Users / Registration, Data Download, and Creating/Restoring Backups
Note... The default location shown in this window illustration is the C: drive. This is correct if you are working on a lab computer where the software and the company data files are installed directly on the hard drive. If you are working on a lab computer where the company data is stored elsewhere on the network (for example, on your designated space on the network), use the Browse button to select that location. Because you are restoring an existing company, the default information Overwrite existing company data is correct. Click Next. The Restore Options window opens next with the Company Data check box defaulted. E-Materials: Lab Users / Registration, Data Download, and Creating/Restoring Backups E-11
Click Next. This opens the Confirmation window. The preceding window illustration shows a USB flash drive location in the Backup file box and the C: drive location in the location box (Note: Your USB flash drive is likely a different letter). Depending on where you are restoring from and restoring to, your locations may be different. After verifying the information in the Backup file and Location boxes and making necessary changes in the Confirmation window, click Finish. Click Yes when you receive a window warning you that the process will overwrite and replace existing data permanently. A progress window appears on the screen. When the progress window disappears, the restore process is complete. Online Homework When you are ready to submit your online homework, you will log in to the Armond Dalton Resources website at using the username and password you created on your first visit to the site. Click Start to access the online homework. E-12 E-Materials: Lab Users / Registration, Data Download, and Creating/Restoring Backups
Click Enter Answers. Choose the chapter for which you are submitting your answers. With the computerized accounting homework, you can submit each chapter individually. You can save, exit, and return at any point without submitting final answers by clicking on the Save button located at the bottom of each page. Note: Each chapter has two tabs to be completed before clicking the Submit button, which is located at the bottom of the second page named Problems and Reports/Printouts. Note SUBMITTING FILES: If you are required to upload more than one item in Problems, you will need to send them to a compressed (zipped) folder before uploading. E-Materials: Lab Users / Registration, Data Download, and Creating/Restoring Backups E-13
Once you have completed the homework, click Submit. Note: You must complete all the questions before you are able to click Submit. If you click Submit and nothing happens, go back and check each section to ensure that you have completed every question. With each submission the screen will display the points earned and possible for the chapter. Some answers need to be reviewed by the instructor before the points earned will be displayed. These submissions will say Pending until the review has been done. E-14 E-Materials: Lab Users / Registration, Data Download, and Creating/Restoring Backups
