4 LCS85 installation overview Install the new LCS85 software on a server-class operating system. Follow the steps outlined in Detailed procedures to ensure a successful installation. If the system uses a release prior to Release 10.0, you must uninstall the software before you can upgrade. Important: The operating system on the computer that you want to use for Metasys software must have been installed on a cleanly formatted hard disk. Do not use a computer that was upgraded from a previous version of Microsoft Windows. For example, upgraded to Windows Server 2012 R2 from Windows Server The Windows upgrade process can leave behind files and registry settings that may adversely affect the installation of Metasys system software. To verify, make sure a folder called WINDOWS.OLD does not exist on the hard disk. If the WINDOWS.OLD folder is present, reinstall the operating system from its media and make sure you format the hard disk during operating system installation. Before you reimage the computer, verify that you have all necessary software drivers. Note: The System Configuration Tool (SCT) cannot exist on the same computer as the LCS85 software. You must uninstall SCT prior to installing the LCS85 software. The LCS85 software DVD or electronic download installs the Metasys system LCS85 software. When you install the LCS85 software, the Software Activation Manager (SAM) also installs. You can use SAM to activate the license. LCS85 installation and upgrade prerequisites To install or upgrade an LCS85, you need: A supported, dedicated server-class computer. An LCS85 software DVD or electronic download. A computer monitor, keyboard, and mouse (if the LCS85 does not have these devices already dedicated). Software prerequisites The installation or upgrade of the LCS85 software requires one of the following 64-bit Windows server-class operating systems: Windows Server 2016 Windows Server 2012 R2 with Update 1 (KB ) Windows Server 2012 If you are using the Windows Server 2012 R2 operating system and have not run Windows Update recently, you may need to apply Update 1, which is a prerequisite for installing Microsoft.NET Framework To get the KB update, go to kb/ We strongly advise that you do not browse to the Metasys Site Management Portal (SMP) UI from a computer running a server-class operating system. By default, Windows Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration is enabled on server-class operating systems, and may block the Launcher download page from which you install the Launcher application to access the SMP. Open the SMP UI from a client computer that is not running a server-class OS. 4

5 Detailed procedures The following sections describe how to install the LCS85. If you are upgrading your LCS85. 10 Table 2: Values for configuration of Windows fields Field Description Action to take Aggregation Multicast TTL Config Server Pollinterval In the CEA-852 protocol, aggregation designates a process of network load optimization. All requests to the interface through the driver arriving during the time set by Aggregation are collected into the same Ethernet package. This behavior causes a delay corresponding to that time, reducing the throughput. The Multicast TTL (Time To Live) value is the number of router hops a CEA-852 packet is allowed in the network before being discarded. Use this parameter to limit message propagation, which reduces overall bus load. Poll interval that defines how often the Configuration Server is queried to determine its connection status. Select this option and specify a value no greater than 8 ms, but always less than the aggregation value set in the routers. Use the default value of 64. Select this option and enter a setting of 60 if you are using an Echelon Configuration Server. Enable Channelrouting Wants all packets Whether to enable channel routing for testing purposes. Under Channelrouting, the CEA-852 standard describes an algorithm which, using the LonWorks routing information from the LON/IP routers, optimizes the IP data transport. Channelrouting reduces the IP network load. Whether a device on the LON/IP channel requests all messages from all other devices, regardless of addressing or routing. This can be important if a network analyzer is in use. Do not select this option if you are using a Loytec Configuration Server. Select this option. Do not select this option only if you want to enable this mode. 10

This ensures the configuration is permanently consistent. This option also enables the storage of the current configuration in a file. If you select this option, the CEA-852 protocol stack initiates with this filed configuration. However, be aware that this is not necessarily consistent with the actual status of the IP network; for example, if the network uses DHCP. You may not need this option because the current configuration is automatically assessed at startup, as is the case for LIP Configuration Servers. 12 9. Close the Easylon IP Interface Config window. Licensing the LCS85 If you install LCS85 software for a release, you must license the LCS85. You must re-license the LCS85 when you upgrade the LCS85 software, for example, from Release 9.0 to Release You can use the same license if you need to upgrade to a minor release. To verify if your software is licensed, see Verifying and maintaining the software license. The Metasys system checks for an active license at startup. If you try to log on to an unlicensed LCS85 server, a message appears that indicates that the product is not licensed. Important: You must use SAM to license the LCS85 software, and then restart your computer for the license to take effect and to activate the Metasys system. Note: All system-generated warnings and error messages related to licensing are logged by the LCS85 software. Licensing issues detected by SAM are logged in a separate location. Refer to Software Activation Manager Help (LIT ). To license the LCS85, you can type Software Activation Manager in the Search box of the Start screen, then select Software Activation Manager from the Apps result. Refer to Software Activation Manager Help (LIT ) for more information on how to use SAM to activate licenses. Verifying and maintaining the software license You need an active, valid license for the LCS85 to be fully functional. To verify that the LCS85 has an active license, complete the following steps: 1. Type Software Activation Manager in the Search box of the Start screen. 2. Select Software Activation Manager from the Apps results. 3. If the LCS85 software is not listed as Licensed in SAM, go to Licensing the LCS85 and follow the directions in that section to activate your license. During LCS85 operation, the Metasys system periodically checks the product license. If the LCS85 software becomes unlicensed while you are logged on, the LCS85 continues to run but displays a warning message every ten minutes. If the object count of the LCS85 exceeds 10,000 objects, you need the 15,000 object upgrade license. You must license the 15,000 object upgrade in SAM. You must not exceed 25,000 objects. If it exceeds the object limit, a warning message appears in the Metasys SMP UI. You also receive a warning message if you download an archive database from SCT that exceeds your object count limit. Warning messages appear every ten minutes in the SMP until you delete enough objects to return within your limit, or activate the 15,000 upgrade license on the LCS85 machine if you have not already done this. Note: To check the object count at any time, see the Object Count field on the Diagnostic tab of the LCS85. Checking the LonWorks software driver version The LonWorks software driver may not always require an upgrade at each Metasys release; therefore, it is important to check the version you are using at each release. We recommend staying current with the latest LonWorks software driver because necessary fixes and enhancements are included with these upgrades. To check the LonWorks software driver version, complete the following steps: 1. Type EasyCheck in the Search box of the Start screen, then select EasyCheck from the Apps results. The Easylon Interface Checker window appears. 12

13 2. On the Software Check tab, click Extended Search. Note: Search Files only searches the directories associated with the LonWorks software driver. Extended Search searches all directories on the hard drive. Figure 3: Easylon interface checker 64-bit (Gesytec Driver version Easylon-WDM_V JCI) Note: - The Gesytec Driver version Easylon-WDM_V JCI contains several installation packages. As a result, the product versions shown in Figure 3 do not match the file name version of the driver package (Easylon-WDM_V JCI). - For the purpose of this procedure, refer to the Product Version column of the Easylon Interface Checker. Ignore the File Version column and driver package version numbers. Important: If the LCS85 setup files or LonWorks software driver setup files are located on the hard disk, the software check may find one or more files associated with the installs and mark them for removal with a red circle. Do not remove the files if they are within an installation folder (C:\Program Files\Johnson Controls...). These are your LCS85 and LonWorks software setup files that were copied to the hard disk in the Installing LCS85 software section and are waiting to be installed. For example, as shown in Figure 3, the file wldv32.dll does not need to be removed from the system. (C:\Program Files\Johnson Controls... is the default location for installation files, but the files may be manually copied to a different location.) 3. View the Product Version column. Check the product version of each wldv32.dll file in Figure 3. If the versions of the wldv32.dll files are the same, your driver does not need to be upgraded. If the versions of the wldv32.dll files are different, see Appendix: Upgrading the LonWorks software driver for upgrade instructions. Note: In Figure 3, the product version of the installed driver at C:\Easylon\Shared\ matches the product version of the latest driver setup file at C:\Program Files (x86)\johnson Controls \LCS8520\X.XX.X.XXXX\Easylon-WDM_V JCI\Wldv32\, so it is current. 13

18 Appendix: Upgrading the LonWorks software driver After you upgrade your server, it is important to also upgrade your LonWorks software driver. The LonWorks software driver upgrade contains the necessary fixes and enhancements required to ensure the best performance of your LCS85 server. Because not all Metasys releases require a driver update, check your driver version before using this appendix. See Checking the LonWorks software driver version. Use this appendix only if you need to upgrade your LonWorks software driver to the current version. You can install LonWorks software driver upgrades over the existing drivers. This scenario is applicable if you have an existing LCS85 software driver and a new version is released that contains fixes and enhancements. If you install the LonWorks software driver over the existing drivers, skip the instructions in Preserving your database during driver upgrade and Removing an existing software driver and driver components. You must run FastUpd.exe during installation of the Remote Network Interface (RNI) client driver. You do not need to reboot until all software updates are installed. If you have issues with driver functionality after you install driver upgrades over the existing drivers, then you must perform a new driver installation. You must follow all instructions in this appendix and run FastInst.exe during the installation of the RNI client driver. See Appendix: Upgrading the LonWorks software driver. Note: Make sure to upgrade your LCS85 server to the latest Metasys release before you upgrade your LonWorks software driver. If your LCS85 server is at the latest Metasys release, you can skip the Preserving your database during driver upgrade section. The Metasys upgrade does not retain the database; it requires an SCT download. Preserving your database during driver upgrade Important: If you are installing a driver upgrade over the existing driver, you can skip this section. Back up your LCS85 database before you upgrade your software driver. If you restart the LCS after you remove the software driver, the process deletes the Metasys LonWorks Integration information from the database. To prevent this issue and ensure that you preserve your database, you must stop and disable the Metasys III Device Manager service. To stop and disable the Metasys Device III Manager service, complete the following steps: 1. In the Control Panel, browse to System and Security > Administrative Tools and double-click Services. 2. In the Services window, right-click Metasys III Device Manager and click Stop. 3. Right-click the Metasys III Device Manager again and click Properties. 4. On the General tab, select Disabled from the Startup type drop-down menu to disable the Metasys III Device Manager Service. Note: You need to enable the Metasys III Device Manager Service again after you upgrade your driver. Obtaining required information for driver upgrade During the LonWorks software driver upgrade you are prompted for certain information about your LCS85. If you have multiple LCS85s on your site, you must get the following information for each server: Neuron ID Media Access Control (MAC) address 18

19 LonWorks software driver license key If you are unsure of any of these values, you can obtain this information through the Easylon IP Interface. To obtain the required information for your driver upgrade, complete the following steps: 1. In the Search box on the Start screen, type Config 852 Interface, then select Config 852 Interface from the Apps results. 2. Capture the entire Easylon Interface Config window and save it to an image file. You reference this screen capture when you install the new LonWorks software driver. See Installing and licensing a new LonWorks software driver. Removing an existing software driver and driver components Important: If you are installing a driver upgrade over the existing driver, you can skip this section. You must remove the existing software driver and driver components before you upgrade. To remove an existing driver and driver components, complete the following steps: 1. Go to Control Panel and browse to Programs > Programs and Features. 2. After the list of programs appears, select each of the following programs and remove them individually: - Easylon EIA-852 Interface - Easylon RNI Client - Easylon WLDV32.DLL Note: If you need to remove more than one program, wait until one program is removed before you remove another one. 3. Restart your computer after all programs are uninstalled. 4. In the Control Panel, browse to System and Security > Administrative Tools and double-click Computer Management. 5.
