1 WiRobot TM DRK6000 QUICK START CAUTION: Before You Begin Please have the battery charged for 5 hours before usage. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: The PC requirements in using the WiRobot system are: PIII 550MHz or faster CPU 64 MB RAM or more 20 MB hard disk free space Microsoft Windows 2000 or XP operating system For application development, Microsoft Visual VB or VC (with Service Pack 5) is required for users to develop their own applications. 3 Insert the WiRobot System CD into the CD ROM and the auto run menu will guide you through the installation process. Install the Bluetooth USB Dongle by running \\Bluetooth USB Dongle\software\setup.exe in the WiRobot System CD. Detail information can be found in the \\Bluetooth USB Dongle\manual\generic quick guide.pdf of the WiRobot System CD. WARNING: Using a power supply with a different voltage rating will cause damage. 2

4 Turn on the robot by pressing the red button located on the upper platform. It will take approximately 3 to 10 seconds to initialize the robot. Check the LED lights on the socket board. There should be 2 LED lights flashing rapidly on the upper board PMS5005 in the right rear corner of the robot As well as 1 LED light flashing rapidly on the lower board PMB5010 in the right front corner of the robot. If all 3 LED lights are flashing rapidly, which means the robot has been successfully initialized. Double click the My Bluetooth Place on the desktop Double click Entire Bluetooth Neighborhood Double click the DrRobotDevice icon (Shows at Windows 2000) Or (Shows at Windows XP) Double click the port icon and the computer will show you which Serial Port the Dongle is using (Shows at Windows 2000) Or (Shows at Windows XP) When your PC is connected to the robot, the port icon turn green 3

5 Double click the WiRobot Gateway application, select Serial Port and Serial Cable, and then click the Connect button. CAUTION: Please make sure that the robot is initialized before the WiRobot Gateway software (on PC) connects to the robot. This may lead to failure connection between PC and the robot. The WiRobot Gateway provides connection status information between the PC and the robot. WiRobot DRK6000 Controller (VB) This sample application demonstrates the basic capabilities of the WiRobot DRK6000 using Microsoft VB with source code provided. This program can read sensor data, obtain image and audio, play wave file, set the LCD display image, and control the robot movement. The GUI of this program is shown as follows: GUI of the WiRobot DRK6000 Controller (VB) User can click the buttons on the interface to control the robot as long as the WiRobot Gateway is connected to the robot. 4
