2 This document contains reference information about Triad s hardlines and lumber line of software products. The software described in this document, as well as the document itself, are furnished under the terms and conditions of a license agreement. 5 About This Guide This guide contains information to help you start using Network Access. This guide explains: the benefits of using Network Access starting and exiting Network Access connecting to the Network and logging onto the Eagle system downloading files and viewing reports troubleshooting the Network Access application getting help for Network Access Who Should Use This Guide This guide is for anyone who will use the Network Access application. Those using Network Access should be familiar with Windows 95. To access Windows 95 Help, from the Desktop, click the Start button, then Help. Anyone using this guide should be authorized by the store owner to enter confidential store information into the system. About This Guide 1
6 About Network Access Network Access allows you to set up a high-speed connection between your Eagle system and a Windows 95 or NT network for more efficient operations. Network Access gives you terminal emulation capabilities, and the following features: high-speed connectivity to the Eagle system for smooth and efficient business operations multi-session emulation that allows you to have multiple windows opened on your PC at the same time, for faster and more efficient operations high-speed drag-and-drop file transfer to move files from the Eagle system to your PC network report viewer that provides a graphical full-page presentation of reports that you can send to an Eagle or network printer report viewing options, such as zoom in and out, portrait or landscape views, page up and down, or search on a text string ability to change font and font size for easy application viewing support for both mouse and keyboard function keys 2 About Network Access
7 Starting and Exiting Network Access To start Network Access: 1. From the Windows 95 desktop, double click the Network Access icon as shown below. or Click the Start button, Programs, Triad, then Network Access. You can also connect to multiple sessions by repeating the steps above for each session. To exit Network Access: 1. From any window in Network Access, choose File, then Exit. The Windows desktop displays. Connecting to the Network You can connect to the network to log onto your Eagle system. To connect to the network: 1. From the Network Access window, choose File, then Connect. 2. Select the desired host. 3. Click Connect. Logging Onto the Eagle System You can log onto the Eagle system to access Eagle applications. To log onto the Eagle system: 1. From the Network Access window, type your login and password in response to the prompts. Starting and Exiting Network Access 3
8 Downloading Files You can download files to your PC to use with PC applications. To download files: 1. From the Network Access window, choose File, then Download. 2. Select the Host directory that contains the file you want to download. 3. Select the file you want to download. 4. Select the PC directory in which you want to place the downloaded file. 5. Move the Eagle file to the PC directory. To move the file, position the mouse pointer over the Eagle file, then press and hold the left mouse button and move the mouse pointer to the PC directory. When the PC directory is highlighted, release the left mouse button. The download begins. 6. To return to the Network Access window after the download is complete, click Cancel. Viewing Reports You can view reports before you print them. To view a report: 1. From the Network Access window, access Function MSP on your Eagle. 2. Type the name of a report and click <Display>, then <Shift> < Next Screen>. 3. Press the ESC Exit button. The Network Access window displays. Adding Additional Terminals If you want to add additional Network Access terminals to your network, contact Triad at 1(800)67-TRIAD. 4 Downloading Files
9 Troubleshooting Network Access This section includes troubleshooting techniques for Network Access. Most of your transactions with Network Access will complete successfully. If you run into difficulties while using Network Access, use the following tips to solve the problem. Problem Network Access doesn t connect to the Eagle system. A Windows File Error Message displays. Retail devices are not working correctly. Solution Check the Eagle system to make sure that it is running. Also, check to see if others can connect to the Eagle. Make sure that the network cable is connected between the PC network card and the hub. If no green light is showing on the network card or hub, there is no connection. Open Network Neighborhood and see if your PC displays. If it does not display, click the Start button, choose Programs, then MS-DOS Prompt. Type PING If you do not get a reply, then TCP/IP is not installed correctly. Call Triad for assistance. Press <Control> <Alt> <Delete> to reboot your PC and try again. If you continue to get an error message, uninstall Network Access and install it again. Choose the Options menu, then select Retail Devices. Check to make sure that the correct devices and serial port are selected. Troubleshooting Network Access 5
10 Problem Button rows do not display. Function keys are labeled F1, F2, etc., instead of Run, Add, etc. Something is Not Quite Right Solution Choose the Options menu, then select Show Button Bar. Choose the Options menu, select Terminal Types, then Triad. Press <Control> <Alt> <Delete> to reboot your PC and try again. If you continue to get an error message, uninstall Network Access and install it again. 6 Troubleshooting Network Access
11 Getting Help This section describes getting assistance with Network Access. How to Use Help Assistant Help Assistant is a complete help system that includes: online text help videos that demonstrate important Network Access procedures context sensitive help You can use Help Assistant when you need information about how to complete a task in Network Access or when you would like information about the application. To use Help Assistant: 1. From any window, click the help button on the toolbar. Help Button You can also open Help Assistant by choosing the Help menu, then Help Assistant, or by clicking F1. 2. Click the first item on the Help Assistant menu to display text online help. Click other menu items to display videos of common Network Access procedures, or to open other windows in Network Access. 3. To view the contents of the video catalog, click the F3 all button. or To view the table of contents for the text online help, click the F4 cont button. or Getting Help 7
12 To view the index for text online help, click the F5 search button. or To view the online help topic for the current open window (context sensitive help), click the F1 help button. Searching for Help Topics You can search for online help topics by using the index, table of contents, or find feature. Use the index to locate topics quickly. Use the table of contents to see the structure of the online help and to locate groups of related topics. Use the find feature to locate several topics that contain the same word or phrase. To search for an online help topic: 1. From any window, choose Help, then Help Topics. The Help Topics window displays. 2. To locate a help topic using the index, click the index tab. Type the word (or part of a word) that you are looking for. Click the index entry that you want, then click Display. or To locate a help topic using the table of contents, click the Contents tab, then double click a book to display the help topics. Select a topic, then click Display. or To search for words or phrases in the online help, click the Find tab. Follow the directions on the Find tab window to limit the search. 3. For additional information about the Help Topics window, click the? in the upper right corner, then click the boxes and buttons on the window to display context sensitive help. 4. Close the Help Topics window to return to the application. 8 Getting Help
13 Printing Help Topics If you use an online help topic often, you may want to print it for reference. Online help topics print on your default Windows printer. To print an online help topic: 1. On the Help window, display the online help topic you want to print. 2. Click the Print button. You can also print topics from the table of contents by selecting the topic, then clicking the Print button. You can print the contents of a book by selecting the book icon, then clicking the Print button. Contacting Customer Services If you need information about how to complete tasks in Network Access, or would like information about how the application works, first refer to Help Assistant. If you need additional assistance, Triad Customer Services (the Advice Line) is available to answer your questions about using Network Access. Please have your customer number ready.
